The frame behind the frame… This historic movie poster is preserved and presented using acid-free materials and UV filtering acrylic glazing. Because of the weight and size of this piece, a structural strainer frame is built into the backside. All of the carrying weight is supported by the strainer frame and the aluminum cleat. Kevin purchased this print in 1981 of the Meteora Monasteries in Greece, while he was serving in the Mediterranean in the United State’s Airforce. The edges were beginning to deteriorate and he was concerned about its preservation. Check out our new/old retro sign! This rebuilt 45 year old beauty just came out of retirement. The neon sign was designed and built at Neo Neon studios in Minneapolis and was inspired by the work of Tom Carnase, who was a famous font designer in the 1960’s thru the 1970’s and was called “the master of letterforms” by Idea magazine. Tom Carnase has produced some of the most memorable product lettering and logographic designs of the last 50 years for a who’s who of corporate clients, including Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Saks Fifth Avenue, Consumer Reports, Fortune magazine, L’eggs and Avant Garde. He has designed 100’s of typefaces and influenced an entire generation of graphic designers. Cross-stitch samplers are some of our favorite framing subjects. Samplers pre-date printing presses and are a beautiful snapshot in time of someone’s hand-crafted attention to detail. This particular sampler speaks to modern times for both the millennial & Generation X demographic. What a glorious day. Started at #humblemoonfolkstead for a marvelous breakfast, then to Little Larke Bakery for the bestest big-ass cookies, then discovered a couple new favorite roads (County Roads CC and SS, very fun), then up to Menominee for a walkabout, then back home a different way, then another walkabout down to see off the Viking Mississippi big-ass cruise ship and to drop off two 5x7 prints in #redwingframing ’s Free Little Art Gallery, then home for some cornet practice and then a stint in the darkroom that required no cussing, yay. Now I am relaxing with a Rusty Nail to tell all of you beloved people that I had a great day. I feel that I will enjoy being retired a lot lot lot. I hope your day was fabulous, too!

“Clair de Loon” by Charley Harper, 1992. Charley Harper was a “minimal realism” artist who always tried to capture his wildlife subjects with the fewest possible visual elements. Charley Harper was born on a small farm in West Virginia and his rural upbringing influenced his passion in capturing his wildlife subjects. He studied art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Harper was an extremely prolific artist and his whimsical and minimal cubist style can be found in book illustrations, posters and in nature-themed publications. A very fun piece by a long-time friend of ours; Dave Matheny. Sadly, Dave passed away last September. Dave lived a full and rich life. Dave was the son of an Air Force general and he grew up on various Air Corps and Air Force bases around the country. He became an illustrator in college and worked for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune for 33 years as the in-house illustrator. Dave had a quick and clever wit and he did not suffer fools gladly.
