You all know I am a huge fan of street art. I am a graffiti girl … well, an admirer. I can’t draw. That’s one of my favorite parts about looking for artsy doors- they tend to be clustered, so you usually end up finding a few. I’d guess 80-90% of these I just stumbled across, the rest I saw online with a location included or hinted at enough to find. While this door, and the Sox door I saw from a car (convincing my lovely chauffeur to turn around for them), I’d guess 90% also came from bicycle rides. Big thanks to my fancy schwalbe marathon plus tires, just one flat biking to and through all these alleys! It was like twenty degrees out so fair I suppose, but I needed this for a smooth rollout on my dopey novelty account! Obvious location clue with the nice little Illinois Centennial Monument sitting in the traffic circle there on the door. A timeline, in the works since 2018, to redesign that intersection was released this month! Work should start this spring and maybe finish in 2026.. Artist unknown :/ Sox The last time I went to a White Sox game was pretty recent, 2022. Five or so of us took the train down, and on the way we realized that none of us could name a single active baseball player, not even a guess. This is still true. Apparently the rest of the US feels differently, and 2023 saw a 10% increase in baseball attendance, 70.7million! The White Sox didn’t really feel that same love though, ranking 24/30 in attendance. So, they want to join the trend of partially publicly-funded luxury stadiums and move, maybe even to a new city. To be fair it is the 8th oldest MLB stadium in use now (1991). Most recently, a rumor came out that a new Sox Park might be integrated into the 78 megadevelopment. A stadium nestled on the river and surrounded by park does sound nice, but a Wrigleyesque ‘entertainment district’ seems more likely. The Sox moving north to the South Loop, or replacing the Bears at Soldier Field, would at least make the downtown skyline on this door even more appropriate.
