It is with a heart full of gratitude and admiration that we share the story of Henry, a 12-year-old orphan who has overcome immense challenges with the support of our amazing community. Last year, during the Christmas celebrations, Henry suffered a devastating accident that resulted in the loss of his fingers. It was a heartbreaking time for all of us at the Kalama your friend community based organization as we witnessed the pain and struggle he endured. However, thanks to the generosity and compassion of our donors, Henry was able to receive the life-changing surgery he desperately needed. 🙏 Through your unwavering support, we were able to provide Henry with the medical care and rehabilitation he required to regain his independence and rejoin his friends in play. Day 54 - Ruby went to @christianjacquesbakery and Milton markets this morning. Lots of distractions with crowds of people and dogs. We have a friend staying with us over the weekend and Ruby adjusted well to the change in night and morning routine. We went to Christian Jacques Bakery to get some morning tea and lunch. We queued up for 15 minutes (well worth it) and Ruby observed the dogs passing by and met some children who wanted to pat her. Afterwards we went to Milton Markets where it was an experience of walking at a slow pace in crowds of many people and dogs. I was given the honor to make a few desserts for The Boy's and Girl's Club Annual Action. I hope they bring in some good cash for the kids. I made an Old Fashioned Lemon Meringue Pie with a Butter Crust. The flakiest crust you will ever eat. Also, I made a Strawberry Trifle. that was four layers of strawberry and vanilla cake and in between the layers was a whipped cream Bavarian custard filling. I sliced fresh strawberries and folded in strawberry glaze to sweeten the berries and added to the layers. I topped the Trifle with white chocolate are. On this day 5 years ago.!! Helping Carpenter School kids to raise money for their School. Making Art out of Recycled CDs…. The Art was then Auctioned off… Each class has a key parent creating something with the children that you would want to purchase and hang on a wall… that’s always the trick… create something that people will love years down the track. And holds memories… Most parents from the perspective grades purchased the Art. A number of mine snapped up by my darling LA besties and alway such a nice reminder when I enter their home. For this piece each child weaved recycled wool around the CD disc then with permanent marker and @posca_aus the decorated these.:. This was such an inspiring way to see how our particular school engaged the kids of all levels to spend time creating art to sell. .. I worked on this Fundraising for 3 years in a Row… loved the level of connection, community and Exploring ways to create with kiddies. My hands are up always to help create anything around raising money for morally aligned projects.. We just finished a huge bathroom remodel! @robin_renovation_pdx did a beautiful job transforming this bathroom into a prettier, healthier, and safer bathroom for the homeowner! They also repaired a ton of water damage in the basement. We also partnered with @aaah_pdx who paid to hire Black-owned @gerrynenergy to do a major electrical upgrade, and they paid to insulate their attic after we hired pest control to remove some squirrels that made a home up there and were causing major damage. Going forward we will be doing a lot more collaborations with other impactful organizations to provide even more services like we did for this homeowner. The old man of the hour! It was a pawty at The Tavern on Main to celebrate one of our pups who was adopted by friends many moons ago.
