Snoop: What a busy start to the week: - made massive progress on armchair project while hoomin was upstairs sanding some of the new internal doors she’s going to paint. - caused havoc this morning - just as Mini hoomin was about to leave for school, she found there was a problem with her school shoes. So as many of my bunny friends know, my Minnow has no incisor teeth as they were removed last year. When he was rescued by @thebunnyjackpotfoundation, he’d been living in a pet shop and had been having his teeth cut by the staff, possibly with nail clippers 😳 This caused him pain and irreversible damage so Minnow had his incisors and the one visible peg tooth (at the time) removed. His other peg tooth has now come through but with no incisors to guide it, has grown forwards and so also requires removal. He’s booked in to have this done shortly. This is just another reason, of SO many, to not buy rabbits from pet shops. Minnow gets on fine and eats without issue now, thanks to the removal, but should NOT have been permanently mutilated by pet shop employees in the first place 💔 #rescue #rabbitrescue #rwaf #rescueismyfavoritebreed

A day in the life of Goldie & Kurt... 🐰❤️ Today has been a busy day... Well, I say busy but not for us but for our carers. We watched from our shelf as they cleaned our accommodation. It's like having room service every day!! We have to say they do a stunning job. 🥰 Whilst the team cleaned, we sat and ate our hay and forage. While ensuring we were keeping a close eye on their cleaning. After all, we produce many chocolate bumbles!! It’s so funny watching them trying to sweep them up. 🤣 Of course, it would be wrong not to have a nap. Today our nap was disturbed by the noise of our herbs being cut ready for our supper!! Can you believe they made us wait until the end of the day for it!! 🙄 We had a wonderful afternoon spent with our socialisers. They visit us every afternoon, providing forage and a few treats. They allow us to socialise with them when we want rather than the other way around. 😊 Once again today has been a good day but still no sign of anyone offering us a forever home. Handling Rabbits… Rabbits are a prey species and feel most comfortable on the ground. In the wild the only time they would be picked up would be if they were about to become a predator’s dinner so we can forgive them for being uncomfortable with it - poor buns. Rabbits spend a huge amount of time grooming and there’s a really good reason for it. Not only does a bunny having a wash look ridiculously cute, but keeping clean is actually very important for their health 🐇🐇 However, we should be helping our buns by grooming them every day, especially when they are moulting! When rabbits groom themselves they swallow a lot of fur and if they swallow too much it can cause a gut slow down, which we absolutely do not want to happen. We recommend treating yourself to a rubber pimple brush or mitt, a soft brush, a comb and some nail clippers! Thinking about bringing home an Easter bunny this Spring? Rabbits are complex animals and there are a lot of factors to consider to provide them with happy and enriched lives! 🐰Rabbits do not make good pets for young children. Although it’s great when children are involved in caring for pets, rabbits are rarely cuddly and as prey animals they generally need gentle handling and care. This means they may not be the best pet if you are looking for a buddy for a young child. 🐰they do not like to live in small spaces. Although traditionally rabbits were kept in small hutches, these do not provide them with the space they need to exhibit their natural behaviours. Rabbits actually require a large amount of space - their enclosure should be at least 3m x 2m and 1m in height 🐰Rabbits get lonely. They shouldn’t be kept as solitary pets and are best kept with one or more other rabbits (all neutered to prevent unexpected new arrivals!) 🐰Rabbits are not cheap pets to keep. They require annual vaccinations, unlimited hay, fresh vegetables and high quality pellets. They may need surgery and medical treatment just like cats and dogs during their lifetimes which can all add up to a substantial financial commitment. Sometimes it's not about giving up but it's about not stopping until you find the right one ❤️ Ailis has been in our care for some time. We have tried bonding her multiple times and each time she's made it very clear what she thought of her potential partner!! 🙈 But in true OAS style we didn't give up!! You see, there's a partner out there for every rabbit but you just need to keep trying. 🥰 Then we had another opportunity when young Bobby’s family came in and fell in love with Ailis.
