Once it was held in a big way. On this day, the women particularly mothers worship Surya for the welfare and well beings of their children. Legends of Samba Dasami Brata Katha say that Samba, was the son of Lord Sri Krishna. Once he was affected by leprosy disease. As per legends, Samba, the son of Lord Krishna, performed severe penance for 12 years for Lord Surya at Konark Temple to get rid of leprosy. Samba travelled to the punyabhoomi of Chandrabhaga beach, where a river named Chandrabhaga meets the sea. He performed penance for 12 long years. Surya Deva was pleased with him and relieved him of his disease with the help of the holy water of the river Chadrabhaga, after which the river dried up leaving a narrow dry-bed behind. On Narada Muni’s advice, Samba wanted to build a Surya temple at Chandrabhaga and worshipped the Sun God as a mark of gratitude. Surya Deva granted his wish after discovering a statue of Surya standing on a Lotus pedestal holding two lotuses in both of his hands. After the offerings, women make various cakes, including manda pitha, kakara pitha, poda pitha, arisha pitha, biri laddoo, makar chaula, chhenaguda, dhanu muaan, khiri, rasagulla, jhilli, chhenagaja, and sweet curd. At noon, a bowl of turmeric water with betel is taken to chaunra mula, a small temple-like structure with a tulsi plant. The cooked food is served, and women view Surya through the turmeric water, offering all the dishes to him. They read the Samba Dasami Brata Katha legend and pray for their family's well-being. Samba Dashami is a unique osha observed on the shukla pakshya dashami in the month Pausa mainly in the coastal districts of the State. Once it was held in a big way. On this day, the women particularly mothers worship Surya for the welfare and well beings of their children. Legends of Samba Dasami Brata Katha say that Samba, was the son of Lord Sri Krishna. Once he was affected by leprosy disease. As per legends, Samba, the son of Lord Krishna, performed severe penance for 12 years for Lord Surya at Konark Temple to get rid of leprosy. Samba travelled to the punyabhoomi of Chandrabhaga beach, where a river named Chandrabhaga meets the sea. He performed penance for 12 long years. Surya Deva was pleased with him and relieved him of his disease with the help of the holy water of the river Chadrabhaga, after which the river dried up leaving a narrow dry-bed behind. On Narada Muni's advice, Samba wanted to build a Surya temple at Chandrabhaga and worshipped the Sun God as a mark of gratitude. Surya Deva granted his wish after discovering a statue of Surya standing on a Lotus pedestal holding two lotuses in both of his hands. ଅର୍କକ୍ଷେତ୍ର କୋଣାର୍କ ଅଧୀଶ୍ବର ଶ୍ରୀମହାଭାସ୍କର'ଙ୍କ ଶାମ୍ବ ଦଶମୀ। ArkaKshetra Konark Adhipati Shri Mahabhaskara's Samba Dashami Jatra. ଶାମ୍ବ ଦଶମୀ ପୌଷ ଶୁକ୍ଳ ଦଶମୀ ଦିନ ପାଳନ କରାଯାଏ ।ଶାମ୍ବ ଦଶମୀ ହେଉଛି ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟପୂଜାର ପର୍ବ, ଯେପରି କୁମାରପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣମୀ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରପୂଜା ପର୍ବ । ବର୍ଷର ବାରମାସ ଯାକ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପର୍ବପର୍ବାଣି ପାଳିତ ହେଉଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ ଶ୍ରାବଣ ଅମାବାସ୍ୟା ଚିତାଲାଗିଠାରୁ ପୌଷ ଶୁକ୍ଳ ଦଶମୀ ଶାମ୍ବଦଶମୀ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଅଧିକାଂଶ ପର୍ବ ପାଳିତ ହୋଇଥାଏ । ଏହି ସମୟ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ପାଳିତ ହେଉଥିବା ପବପର୍ବାଣିରେ ଏଥିପାଇଁ ଗାଉଁଲୀ ଢଗ ରହିଛି ଯଥା-""ଅଇଲା ଚିତୋଉ ନାନୀ/ ବାରଓଷା ପର୍ବ ସଙ୍ଗରେ ଘେନି, ଶମ୍ବର ଦଶମୀ ଅଲଣାଦାଉ/ ସବୁ ଓଷା ବାର ଏଇଠି ଥାଉ ।" ପୂଜାବିଧି ନାରୀମାନେ ନିଜ ସନ୍ତାନସନ୍ତତିଙ୍କ ମଙ୍ଗଳ କାମନା କରି ଶାମ୍ବଦଶମୀ ପର୍ବ ନିଷ୍ଠାର ସହ ପାଳନ କରନ୍ତି । ଏହି ପର୍ବର ବିଶେଷତ୍ୱ ହେଉଛି ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଙ୍କର ଆକାଶରେ ତିନି ସ୍ଥିତିକୁ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ୟ କରି ଘରେ ତିନି ପ୍ରକାର ଧୂପ ବା ପୂଜା ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ହୋଇଥାଏ । ଅରୁଣୋଦୟ ସମୟରେ ପ୍ରଥମ ଧୂପ ହୁଏ । ହିନ୍ଦୁ ନାରୀ ଶୁଦ୍ଧପୂତ ଶୁଚିମନ୍ତ ହୋଇ ଏହି ମୂହୁର୍ତ୍ତରେ ଫଳମୂଳ ଓ ମିଷ୍ଟାନ୍ନ ଇତ୍ୟାଦି ନୈବେଦ୍ୟ ବାଢ଼ନ୍ତି । ଏହି ବ୍ରାହ୍ମମୁହୂର୍ତ୍ତରେ ପୂଜାନୈବେଦ୍ୟ ବା ପ୍ରଥମ ଧୂପ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ କରି ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟପୁରାଣ ପାରାୟଣ କରିଥାନ୍ତି । ମଧ୍ୟାହ୍ନରେ ମଧ୍ୟାହ୍ନ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ତେଜୋଦୀପ୍ତ ଭାସ୍କରଙ୍କୁ ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ଧୂପ ଦିଆଯାଏ । ଏହା ଶାମ୍ବ ଦଶମୀର ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଧୂପ । ଏଥିରେ ଗଇଁଠା, ଅଟକାଳି, ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପ୍ରକାରର ପିଠା, ଖେଚୁଡ଼ି, ଘଡ଼ଘଡ଼ା ତିଅଣ ଆଦି ଭୋଗ ହୁଏ । ଶେଷଧୂପ ବା ତୃତୀୟ ଧୂପ ହେଉଛି ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ସମୟର ଅସ୍ତାଚଳଗାମୀ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଦେବଙ୍କ ନିମିତ୍ତ । ଏହି ଧୂପରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏଣ୍ଡୁୁରି, କାକରା, ମାଲପୁଆ, ଗଜା ଆଦି ନୈବେଦ୍ୟ ଅର୍ପଣ କରାଯାଇଥାଏ । #SambaDashami #Konark #Puri #Shrikshetra #ShriPurushottamaKshetra

It is observed on the 10th day of Shukla Paksha of Pausha month as per the traditional Odia calendar.
