The name of this restaurant at the rooftop of Suntec City Mall may sound bizarre, but I promise you its pricing is even more bizarre. To get in, you have to pay a cover charge of $5 (12pm - 3pm) or $10 (5pm - 9pm). Entry from 3pm - 5pm and 9pm - 10pm is free. This unique concept exists to offset the 'true cost' of the menu here. For a restaurant located in the central part of Singapore, the prices are shockingly low. To find out if the restaurant is able to keep up with the quality, we ordered the To our surprise, the only thing thatโs remotely compromised is the size of the chook. Itโs otherwise caramelised till golden brown and carefully blistered so its skin is slightly crispy in parts. The meat is steamy too, making it easy to tear off. We also enjoy the corn, which is swimming in a congealed curry sauce. ๐ต๐ฑ) had us suspecting that we'd receive a few pieces of frozen ๐ค. Instead, we were greeted by the sight of three enormous tiger prawns bathed in garlic and an appetising tomato broth. They are kissed in a distinct smokiness, and are moist, bouncy and sweet. (5โญ๏ธ/5) We got more incredible value in the form of the ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐บ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ & ๐ง๐ผ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ธ๐ผ ($๐ญ๐ฐ. The salmon is wrapped and baked in the oven to seal in its jus, then poured into a milky stock before being heaped with tobiko. We like how the salmon is able to absorb all the flavours around it, resulting in a very harmonious dish. (5โญ๏ธ/5) You musn't leave without trying the ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ ๐ถ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐น & ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ฒ ๐๐ฟ๐๐บ๐ฏ ($๐ญ๐ฌ. The value proposition drops a little here as this is one of the most expensive cheesecake slices we've ever had. But its texture is perfect: not too soft that it collapses into a creamy mush, and not too firm that it resembles a chiffon cake. Definitely in for a shout for the best cheesecake in Singapore. (5โญ๏ธ/5) If you want to impress your date, you can't go wrong with the food here (and your wallet will thank you too). Comments ...
[Part 2/3] Check out my previous post for my review of the starters in La Bottega Enoteca's 6-course dinner menu. For this post, I'm going to be focusing on the main courses. Although each diner may choose 2 main courses, some main courses take up '2 slots'. If you choose one of these dishes, you may only pick one main course. The waitress recommended us the (1 slot). Translated, this means rose-shaped Chicken Bolongnese. You get a pretty large dumpling packed with minced chicken, black summer truffle, pancetta (thin slices of cured pork belly), pecorino (cheese made from sheep's milk) and hazelnuts. I enjoyed the savoury-crunchy combination, but @keephoebe felt that the saltiness can get overpowering. Definitely an acquired taste. (3.5โญ/5) For the pizzas, there are 3 types to choose from (all in half portions or 4 slices). We chose ๐ข๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ (1 slot) (that's literally the name of the pizza!). The pizza boasts a topping of provolone, burrata, zucchini and fresh prawns atop a pesto base. But you would probably first catch sight of the bulbous crust, which has a mochi-like texture and some overly burnt edges - both proud features of the pizzas here. It's accompanied by a barely-there, super soggy base that fails to hold the ingredients together. According to the restaurant, that's how Italians like their pizzas as opposed to the 'commercialised' thin crust and doughy / crispy base. Have to say we're bigger fans of the 'commercialised' version. After all, there's a reason why it's commercialised. (4โญ/5) I can't recall the name of the last dish we had because it has been replaced with a fish stew on the online menu (the menu changes regularly here). But it sports two large St Pierre fish fillets from New Zealand (2 slots), steamed with carrots, potatoes, capsicums and cherry tomatoes. Although the vegetables have been reduced to a squish that releases an intense sweetness, the fish fillets retain a meaty consistency. The result? They go hand in hand like bread and butter. Easily the best dish of our meal. (5โญ/5) Stayed tuned to Part 3 of my review for the desserts. La Bottega Enoteca 346 Joo Chiat Rd.
What do Singapore's highest observation deck and Sol & Luna have in common? They're both housed in the 51-storey-tall CapitaSpring, the newest skyscraper to pierce the CBD sky. Not surprisingly, the restaurant is designed to be a crowd-puller, with different menus offered throughout the day. The dishes are as diverse, borrowing influences from regions in Italy, France, Portugal and Spain among others. We visited the restaurant on a weekday lunch and decided to sample dishes that are on both the lunch and dinner menus. My main course is the While there's no empirical evidence that free-range chicken that fed primarily on corn is able to achieve more tenderness when cooked, there might as well be. Here, the chicken is smoked till its meat is super succulent and its skin is blistered. We also like the generous serving of the mildly spicy, sweet and sour piquillo pepper sauce (a Spanish hot sauce). (5โญ/5) Her main course is the ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ ($๐ฎ๐ฒ). Unlike other types of fish, the seabass is not overly fishy, and boasts just a subtle sweetness and a firm, meaty consistency. Its quality shines through here, where it's simply charred, finished with a little salt and best enjoyed with the citrusy salsa verde. (5โญ/5) We wrapped up our lunch with the ๐ฆ๐ผ๐น & ๐๐๐ป๐ฎ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ถ๐๐ ($๐ญ๐ฒ). When prepared right, this Italian dessert is creamy, decadent and slightly bitter with a distinct ladyfinger sponge. While the version here nails the range of complementary flavours, the texture doesn't hold up. Instead, it quickly dissolves into an unrecognisable mash. Not good. Best #tiramisu still goes to La Scala Ristorante at The Capitol Kempinski. (2.5โญ/5) We didn't manage to try its appetisers and sides, which seem vastly overpriced (the fries are nearly half the price of the seabass, while mashed potatoes and cauliflowers are $10 each! That said, the main courses alone are worth it. --- ๐Sol & Luna 17-01, CapitaSpring (88 Market St). Lunch menu daily 11.30am - 2.30pm.

Better late than never~ We're officially done with the 15 days of the Lunar New Year! Whether you're young, fat, thin or old, we want to wish you the warmest wishes and blessings in the year of the Tiger. Here's wishing everyone Couldn't help but post a picture of my favourite dish during this season. The @imperialtreasuresg #louhei in my opinion is the best! Those #crispy yam bits add that extra crunchy delight! I believe my record for louheis was 13 times compared to a dismal 6 this year. It is believed that the act of louhei-ing together breeds #harmony and #togetherness. Whatever, I love the taste of it too. Where's your favourite louhei haunt?
In an age where cafes open and close in the blink of an eye, Spruce - which opened in 2009 - has been a true outlier. I revisit it some 7 years later, and I'm pleasantly surprised that it now serves elevated European fare in addition to brunch favourites such as burgers, waffles and pancakes. The #Ricotta #Tortellini ($22) is a hit with @keephoebe and I. The tortellini boasts both a slightly firm exterior and a generous filling of ricotta. The latter is smooth and just mildly creamy, so the dish doesn't get ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ even if it's resting in a more aggressive black truffle cream. The Grilled #Barramundi Fillet ($25) impresses with its size too. It's served with a smattering of #seafood resting in a delightful lobster bisque that the barramundi mops up with ease. The Angel Wings ($17) come from a frozen pack, but are dripping with the cafe's own sweet, tangy honey mustard sauce. Instead of being forgettable, they're addictive. I can safely say Spruce has all grown up now. --- ๐Spruce 2 outlets: 320 Tanglin Rd, Phoenix Park & 01-01 HillV2. ๐ Both weekdays 11am - 10.30pm, weekends & PH 9am - 10.30pm. #sgeats #sgfoodie #sgfoodtrails #yummyinmytummy #sgcafe #sgcafehopping #foodphoto #foodphotograph #foodstagram #instafood #foodlover #europeanfood #pasta #tanglinsingapore
There's only so many times I can hear about the 'Ex-Din Tai Fung chef opens an Egg Fried Rice stall' narrative before getting bored. Fortunately, this isn't it. You still can have your fix of DTF-style Egg Fried Rice, but I decided to go for the more unique Nori Fried Rice with Shrimp ($7.90 nett, add $1 for tobiko). I like the bold flavours here. Together with a whiff of wok hei, you get to enjoy some crunch and bursts of umami from the nori and tobiko. --- ๐Taokingu Ramen Blk 785E, Woodlands Rise, 01-16. ๐ Daily 10am - 10pm. #sgeats #kopitiam #foodcourt #sgfoodie #sgfoodtrend #sgfoodtrails #yummyinmytummy #whati8today #foodphoto #foodphotography #instafood #foodstagram #foodlover #friedrice #eggfriedrice #asianfood #fusionfood
