"Cashew Later" and "Butterscotch" do have a subtle color difference that's not easy to show on my phone camera. This post is in regards to questions we've had asking if we're going to start new color naming contests like we've had in the past. We absolutely *loved* doing the contests and had a lot of fun running them. However we felt it wasn't fair to our customers when another hair competitor would literally run down the list of our new color names and copy them exactly to their newest order. We've paid you all for winning names chosen and retroactively for names we've decided to use for colors in the future. It made us very uncomfortable to see your hard work being used without compensation or recognition. We understand some color names are common and easily copied without knowing, but the sheer number of names exactly copied made it clear that it wasn't an accident. Technically, a color name cannot be trademarked and likely our competitor is aware of this. However, we at Shimmer Locks try our best not to use the exact same names as our competitors when at all possible, not only to avoid confusion, but out of respect for others. The few times we have had a same/similar name, it was because we were matching a color to a specific My Little Pony or Doll. To be transparent: the one time it did happen was during our first color naming contest when we left total control of the final name to our customers. Since that incident, we changed the way our naming contests worked so we had the final say in names and could avoid duplication. We debated explaining publicly why we were discontinuing our contests, but in the end felt that being transparent and honest with our customers was the right thing to do. Thank you to everyone who participated in past naming contests and to you all for understanding our decision. There were *so many* great names! Luckily, we have several darker purple shades so we can pick more than 1 winner! ^_^ The new name for this shade is Spellbound by @unbridledartistry. We've also chosen the name Nebula from @ravens_toy_world to replace the name of our old "Glory" color. It was previously our closest match for My Little Pony Glory, but we now have a newer closer match and wanted to avoid name confusion for MLP rerooters. ;) The final name is Enchantress by @charmingplastic for another purple shade to be revealed at a later date. We want to thank you everyone for all the wonderful names and putting in the time and effort to come up with so many thoughtful ideas. Who has two thumbs and accidentally factory-reset their phone, losing hundreds of pictures? (It's me!) So I don't have any before pictures of Anchors Away, but she was a mess when she arrived -- gnarly tinsel, gross hair, insides coated in rust and gray gunk... uck. I thought she was going to be a quick repair based on the Ebay listing, but nope! She's looking much better now after a very, very thorough scrubbing and new hair from @shimmerlocks in Baja Breeze and Marina, with streaks of Cotton Candy and Opal tinsel. I can confirm that Opal is a perfect match for (at least some) G3 ponies. And of course a cat helped me take pictures. So now that Christmas gifts have been given out I can start sharing what I made for my cousins. One cousins asked for a sleeping beauty doll but she wanted her to have rainbow hair.
