For all music lovers! I’m framing a new selection of vintage Penguin music scores which were published in the 1950’s. Several of the covers of these books were designed by Elizabeth Freidlander who was a calligrapher, designer and typographer. She was born in Berlin in 1904 where she studied typography. As a Jew in Germany, she was refused a permit to work and so moved to Italy in 1936 and then on to London where she learned English and produced book work, calligraphy and decorative designs. She was responsible for many of the postwar designs of Penguin books including several of these gorgeous music scores.
