When I started in the industry I thought the success/ failure of my clients rested solely on how amazingly intricate their program was. . I'd write these in depth periodised programs for busy mums all the way through to the 65+ legends thinking they would actually care 🤣. . One if the best random things one of my work mates said years ago at the YMCA was "you could come in and pick out any program here and it would give you results" that's so damn true. . The key is in the "doing" . Now the flipside of that is specific results. . If you want specific results you'll more than likely need some kind of plan. It doesn't have to be Arnies encyclopaedia of bodybuilding but some kind of guideline is recommended. . Even something as simple as planning and structuring your week will suffice. Planning what classes you'll do, the type of exercise, the movements. That in it self is a form of programming. . A general rule of thumb is the more specific the goal, the more dialed in the plan should be. . But just remember: A plan/program is only as good as the person executing it. You have to actually get moving first before you even think about a plan. . Also, that's what Personal Trainers are for 😜 . J.

I'm always fascinated to hear about what we collectively perceive to be "healthy" . Occasionally I'll post pics to my story of two different meal options and ask for feedback. I'll ask things like: "Which meal is healthier?" or "What is better for you". The results always get me thinking about how we associate certain ideas/images with health. It's almost like a knee jerk psychological response similar to an inkblot test or some kind of association test. This leads me to think about how strongly advertising and the fitness industry subconsciously influence our ideas about what health actually is. . Just a thought. . J.

At first glance it appears there is a fine line between the two. But it all comes down to intention and emotional state at the time. . At the end of the day if you do end up binging, feeling really upset and guilty, acknowledge that it has happened and move forward. Short answer: No. Long answer: No, but there are certain factors that come into play which will hinder or help you stick to your plan while trying to lose fat. . There are long running myths in the fitness industry like; -Don't eat carbs after.... -Fasted cardio burns more fat -You must eat 6 small meals a day -Intermittent fasting is the shiz. . There is not actually that much solid evidence backing most of these claims. In fact a lot of it is based on personal anecdotal evidence which can be vey subjective. A lot of it is old school "here's what worked for me" stuff. . You probably all know by now that it all boils down to calories in vs calories out. And you can't cheat the laws of thermodynamics. However that's a simplistic view of it. And humans are not simple. . The reason time of the day can make a difference is more to do with balance in the body. Balance of mood, hormones, blood sugar, hunger etc. These are all factors which can affect eating habits which will ultimately lead to an individual over or under consuming. . Intermittent fasting works for some. Others it perpetuates disorderd eating habits. Smaller frequent meals work for some. Others find it uncomfortable and annoying. You see where I'm going with this. . The key here like most things in the fitness industry is whatever works for you and whatever you can stick to is the right structure for you. . J.

Here are the results from my fast food challenge last week. . Each day I ate at a different restaurant for every meal that day. . Some of you may disagree with the results, that's fine. I'm open to discussing my findings. . Here's a few things that interested me about the experiment. - Pretty much every place allowed customisation. - Taco Bell was more disappointing than I thought. - Wendy's was a surprise hit. - KFC was as expected. Although tasted better than I remembered (chicken salt 😍) - I was never really super hungry - Carl's Jr is too much like BK. . Let me know what you guys think.
