Prahran Skate Park I called Campbell what must be nearly a year ago now, who at the time was our 17yr old photographer and who was knee deep in his VCE studies, because I had an idea, a project, that I felt truly excited about and something that I wanted him to be involved in This project and work could be potentially historic - for Prahran Skate Park, for Prahran skateboarding, as well as being a milestone and highlight of Campbell’s fledgling career - and the work would stay with him, with us, well into the future. With the demolition and reconstruction of Prahran, or PTown, history was literally in the making I felt that suddenly we must photograph and document the park. Before it’s gone. And make the park the Star. Capture it as art, not just photographing skaters skateboarding Capture the obstacles, the ramps, the stairs and rails, it’s textures, the rust. the graffiti, all of it’s details, character and colour The result was that we then collaboratively posted weekly visual essays of images with accompanying text outlining the park’s significant history and it’s global recognition as one of Australia’s capitals of skateboarding. And we should capture the now, the present, showcasing the local skaters those who come and inhabit the park daily Campbell embraced this opportunity and spent every spare bit of time he had available, spending countless hours at the park, that this has largely become his project.
