Spin progress: I'm so not a natural at spinning and it's been the hardest thing to really pick up as a skill. Jacob Simon was another past student I taught from Chicago, I helped with his pairs skating and singles. Once Jacob found his passion in pairs he was very driven to become a betters pair skater. I will never forget at sectionals they tripped and fell on their lift, got up took 2 steps to do their side by side spins in perfect unison. They ended up getting a special achievement award for highest spins! My students were never the most talented, but boy did they work the hardest to reach their goals by building correct technique!

Here’s the best way to be a skating parent… It’s more then footing the expensive skating bill 💸 👉🏼 Remember that your kid… is a kid! Regardless if they are a Senior or preliminary level. 📍Set boundaries. Skating can easily take up every aspect of our lives and as much as we love skating sometimes skipping a day of practice to be a kid, or going to the family holiday is important. 📞 Communicate with your coach. There isn’t always enough time between lessons to talk in person. Don’t hesitate to contact your coach via text, email, or phone call. 🤫 let them do the talking. Questions are great to learn more, but sometimes parents ask rapid fire questions not giving the skater time to process, and answer they way they would want to. This is especially true after a bad practice, test or competition. Let them process their feelings first and see if they bring up the conversation. 👂🏼listen to your kid. Are they in pain or injured? Are they feeling burnt out? Is it time to take a break or time to add another day of skating in? 🥳 Have fun! See how you can volunteer with the club or rink, stay positive during tests and competitions, laugh lots, and celebrate the small wins. Even try out skating for yourself, this is always a fun one!
