First Day in Maui. Since most of our trips are unplanned and last minute (read: downside of standby travel), we didn’t check the weather and realized that it was raining all week long, the entire duration of our stay. I was bummed out for whole day that our trip would be not be as adventurous as I had thought it would be. However, we had no choice but to make the most of that day. We discovered a homegrown coffee shop, @akamaicoffee, I am not a coffee person and this was the best coffee I have had in the US(Seriously). Went there again for next 5 days and bought some beans back home. Big shootout to Akamai. Must must go coffee shop. Since we stayed at Wailea, we didn’t get bored in the resort. DENVER - DAY 1- Why start a travel-focused instagram during the Covid-19 pandemic? Well, in mid-March my cruise job abruptly ended and I returned to the USA from Australia to live with my parents. As fortunate as I was to have a stable place to be I knew I needed to keep moving. To try something new I booked an Airbnb in Denver, Colorado ⛰ for the entire month of August (beginning today). Given that hopscotch air travel is irresponsible amidst the pandemic I figured a long term Airbnb would be a good fit. Why Denver? - well, I fell in love with Denver on my first visit back in 2015 and the outdoor culture is its biggest draw 🏕 Also, turns out monthly Airbnb rentals are discounted! This said, I find it fitting to start a new instagram journey by documenting this month spent in the Mile High City!🎒🏃🕶 So, this morning I had no trouble getting onto my United flight from Des Moines to Denver, and I even snagged up a First Class ticket. When it comes to standby travel, sometimes the first traveler to the gate gets the better ticket. Surprisingly, in flight drinks were served (in contrast to the last flight I took with United a month ago). The flight was boarded back to front, reducing risk for exposure. Arriving around 9:00 this morning I had five hours before I could check into my airbnb, so I briefly lugged my belongings around downtown and settled at a Starbucks across from Confluence Park. There I started the search for a used bicycle on Craigslist - something I view as a must without a car. I nearly bought a used Trek bike off of Craigslist today, but someone was on their way to purchase the bike at the time of my phone call. We visited the @straptankbrewingco in Springville Utah. The restraunt was so amazing. The ceilings and the decor were so interesting to look at. . . They had the story of the Brewery on the back if the menu that was a good read. They have seats reserved for the owners. The vibe was amazing. . . I had a salad. Yesterday we drove the road to Hana! It took all day long, and it was an absolute blast! We stopped at some of the prettiest waterfalls and little swimming holes as we made our way to the end goal- the national park! We hiked for 3 hours, it was sweaty, but worth it! My favorite part was the bamboo forest! Jeff and I also loved the 🌈 rainbow trees!! Jeff saw his first ever black sand beach! We also saw the part of Maui where “Maui” pulled up the Hawaii islands with his hook! We have been in the forest for the last few days on our annual camping trip. We rented a toy hauler so that we didn't have to drive 2 vehicles. Let's just say you get what you pay for. The trailer did its job I didn't have to sleep in a tent or on the ground. . . I did love having a fridge and freezer. We had otter pops to our hearts content! We made it home!!!! After a @lyft ride to Long Beach from LA. I am happy to be home. There were severe thunderstorms on the East Coast which caused a ground stop in several airports. . . We slept(catnaps for me) in the Long Beach airport outside of security. Other than being slightly cold it worked out well. . . We were coming home on a direct flight and it got canceled. I am so glad I have the ability to fly on other airlines. We tried Vegas it got canceled. We were walking towards the exit and I heard them announce flights for Los Angeles that they were now loading. So we decided to walk towards Los Angeles see if they had any extra seats on the way Denver got cancelled which was our backup for Los Angeles. . . You guys my legs are so swollen! My legs do so terrible when I sit on a plane for a long time. My toes look like little sausages and my feet are huge. So terrible. . . Thanks to those people who decided to walk away from the gate because they thought their flight would get canceled as well. Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Millennium Falcon:Smugglers Run did not dissapoint. The ride had a 90 min standby wait time. We choose to go Single Rider. The cast members made sure to tell us we would be separated but it all depends on the groups in the Standby line. My husband and I were single riders my 3 kids got to go together. . . I would call it a motion ride roller coaster. I had a few moments where I started getting dizzy but for the most part it didn't make me motion sick(score for me!) . . If you do the ride with a group of people you know I think it would be fun because you would all be working to get the best score. I rode with strangers(single rider) and I didn't feel like I could hollar at the grandma pilot who was attempting to fly my plane but the HUGE positive is we only had to wait a total of like 25 minutes from star to finish. . . They guy who narrates your mission I thought looked like he came out of the Pirates of the Caribbean with the barnacles on his chin. I liked all of the attention to detail that they put into the holding room and the ride. My @costco has @unistudios and @legolandcalifornia tickets for sale. I am thinking Christmas presents for my family. This is an amazing "stock up" price. . . Universal Studios is $140 for a 3 day pass. It does have some exclusions. Valid 12 months from the first visit. Cannot be used December 26-31 of 2019 and 2020. This is a great deal it averages out to be about $47 a day! . . If you are planning a Legoland trip the 3 day pass at Costco is $110. That's $37 a day. Legoland was not my favorite park but for that price I would definitely give it a second go. We went to @lehirodeo and I forgot how much fun it is in that environment. We haven't been in several years. My kids don't even remember going to one. It was fun explaining to my kids what each event was and what was going to happen. . . My husband was excited to have a rodeo burger! He raved about it the next day! I loved being able to support our towns rodeo! . . After the rodeo was over the had some Motor Cross riders come in and do a stunt show. That was my kids favorite part. Square ice cream! Who knew?! The Ice Cream Parlor is on the main drag on the corner. It's all the rage in Lava Hot Springs. . . It's only about $2.70 for a very generous square scoop. The flavors are traditional with a few unique to add to the flair. It can get crazy busy but they do a good job of getting you through the line quickly. They also sell lots of sweets that I remember from my childhood. It's fun to see my kids asking me about the candy cigarettes. I didn't even know they still made those. We made it to Lava Hot Springs in Idaho. It was a 82°. It was the perfect temperature. We rented a 4 person tube(we still have never flipped it). If you are concerned or have littles I would recommend the 4 person tube. . . We walked the first few trips back up to the top. It only takes 10ish minutes to walk back to the top. The husbands decided after walking it twice that they were paying for the shuttle. . . The shuttle was great. It was literally there each time we got off the river. We got in about 16 runs in 6 hours. The kids wanted to have a kid raft and they didn't flip or fall off. They range in age from 8-13. It is an awesome place for kids and adults. We have been taking our kids since they were about 18 months. . . They have made improvements over the years. They have an awesome dock to launch from. The also put in grates where you get out this year so that it is not so slippery climbing up the hill. . . I love being in the mountains! There a several reasons. We don't get service! Which means no device is going to interrupt my conversation with those around me. That is huge! . . Second the creativity in my kids reminds me that they know how to be a kid. My girls both have their ATV license and enjoy riding the 4 wheelers. All of the kids made up a cops and robbers game and went up and down the road looking for who stole the Rice Krispy treat. It lasted for at least 90 minutes. . . The older kids also decided to hike the mountain(the last 2 pictures give you an idea of how big the mountain is). This was a 2.5 hour adventure. My oldest daughter who loves gaming and reading said "the view was totally worth it ". I would call that a success! She even fell when she was coming down the mountain twice into the cactus. . . I also love a good 4 wheeler ride but because of the snow it was cut short because we couldn't go any further on the road. My husband had fun playing in the snow. @jimmysseafood in Baltimore, MD was amazing. My husband for our anniversary wanted to try blue crabs. So we searched online for a seafood restaurant that served them. . . We found one on the water and drove to it only to find out they had a 3 hour wait and were no longer taking reservations. So I searched again and found Jimmy's. This time we decided to call. The had a 90 minute wait but told us there was open seating in the bar. So we went. . . We ended up sitting at a bar top table that worked great for us. It is the 45th anniversary of Jimmy's this year and they are running a special on the crabs. My husband decided to order a dozen. I ordered a New York strip steak. I was starving we had just come from the Giants game and had not eaten since my ribs (church BBQ story) earlier in the day. . . My steak came with 2 sides. I choose a salad and the garlic mashed potatoes. I am not going to lie I judge a restraunt on the quality of their ranch. Jimmy's did not disappoint. I think it was homemade because it surely exceeded my expectations. My steak was amazing. The seasoning was seared into it and it made an amazing crust. The mashed potatoes were so creamy and delicious. I had some leftover ranch and put some on my potatoes. Yum! 💖 . . Now for the crabs which I did not try. I am allergic to seafood. My husband worked on those beauties for a good 2 hours. The waiter showed him how to do the first one and he was off. After he was about half way through the pile, the owner who had been chatting with my dad came and showed my husband how to get ALL the meat. She was insistent that he get his money worth by not leaving any meat behind. . . He said the crab was tasty but not worth the effort. He enjoyed the potatoes that were cooked with the crab they had great flavor. I asked him if he would order it again?..... The Royal Theatre in @disneyland. They do live action performances of the princess stories. We were there for Beauty and the Beast. They do a great job with just a few actors and surprise visits from the Princess and sometimes her Prince. . . *** Tip stay seated after the show. Grizzly River Run in @californiaadventurepark was so fun this week! It was overcast and there was hardly anyone in line. . . I sat on the edge and did get wet but it was the least wet I have ever gotten on this ride. I don't know if the water levels were low or what but it was awesome! . . My little boy always tells everyone one we ride with "a little tip cover the drains or water sprays up through them". We thought we would pass it along.
