5 years ago I cooked my father the last Easter meal he would ever have, and he made me the last homemade pies I would ever have by him. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. After desert he asked me to go for a walk and we did. It took us 45 minutes to walk maybe 500 feet and then we had to get the car to bring him home but those 45 minutes were amazing. It was during that walk that my father told me it was time and needed to know I would be ok. I held back all my tears and smiled at my daddy and said you raised a strong daughter and I promise you that I will be and I will make you proud.. April 10, 2018 6 years ago this past Wednesday. He loved playing tennis with his high school team, something happened though between him and his coach and he never told us about it. He ended up not playing his senior year. His coach came to his funeral, but he wasn't nice to my youngest son after Zander died, whereas he used to be nice and say hi to him in the hallways, he stopped doing that and basically pretended he never saw him. (My youngest son is 2 years younger than Zan so they went to the same high school together) So even though I love the memories of Zander playing tennis, they're tainted with that terrible coach. . . . This was April 11, 2017. We went up on the Skyline Drive and went on a hike. Zander made me a bouquet. Technically you're not supposed to pick the wildflowers, but we hiked to an old farm site on the side of the mountain, the daffodils were from bulbs planted way back from when people lived there before every single person who lived up there were kicked out by the federal government in order to build the Skyline Drive, they made it a national park. But my sweet Zander picked me these and tied them with stems and gave me a bouquet 💐 This was a good day. I miss him so much . . . Maverick Mountain is now streaming everywhere, with lyric video on my YouTube page. This song is first and foremost for all the "mavrats" who frequent @maverickmountain and I hope it will also appeal to anyone who loves sliding on snow. I also want to dedicate this release to my Dad, who taught me how to ski, and turns 69 years young today!! ⛷️ I wrote this song last February, a month before I was scheduled to perform at the Thunder bar. I thought it would be a fun challenge to write a song about the mountain but since I had not been there yet, I was not sure if I would be able pull it off...but with the help of the mountain's trail map and Joe Matheson (who had been there once before) I was able to capture the mountain's essence whilst including 15 of the trail names in the lyrics! 🗻 Maverick Mountain is a special place with a relaxed vibe and the friendliest people who love having fun! I hope this song inspires some to take a trip there, or perhaps to visit another locally owned "mom and pop" ski area. 🏂 I want to express my abundant gratitude to my friends who contributed to the production of the track. Watching the Republic Day parade with my grandparents was a tradition that all of us took seriously. Off to school at 7 am for the flag-hoisting, and our Principal's words of wisdom. Back home, and then we took our positions on the sofa and watched the ceremony from start to finish. Oh, the wonder of those gorgeous floats, the feeling of pride when Kerala came by, the nods and smiles from my grandparents who had seen this live... and the comfort of simple routines that gilded my youth. Visiting these places is like stepping into a time tunnel. Villages that continue to live with the same rhythm and structure as in the time of my great-grandparents. We went out to eat with my sister and her kids and my eldest and 3rd born didn't come, and one of my nephews lives far away so he wasn't there, but still I imagine if Zander had been here, what he would've said.... what it would be like for him to still be here.
