Daughters of Melbourne: A guide to the invisible statues of Melbourne, written and illustrated by the incredibly talented Maree Coote (the author of Azaria: A True History), is a collection of biographies of fabulous Victorian women who have helped shape Melbourne as we know it today. Each biography is essentially a persuasive essay arguing the credentials of the women and highlighting the many reasons they should be recognised in statue form on the streets of Melbourne (in the same way their male counterparts already are). It's a complex read, but would make a good text for Close Reading or Reciprocal Teaching in the upper primary years. Build phonological awareness by using sound boxes to segment words into phonemes. The sound boxes can be applied and removed from student desks as needed. They are a great way for children to become familiar with the alphabet, letter-sound relationships, and phoneme manipulation. So grateful! ✨ I’ve taught in all three systems - catholic, public and independent. ✨I’ve been at my substantive school since 2017. ✨ So far I think my favourite year to teach is Year Six. They challenge me but 2023 was such a year of growth for me 📈💕 ✨ I used to have braces when I was in primary school 🦷 ✨Up until last year I had not read a book in many many years 📚 ✨I absolutely LOVE Stitch. I even have him tattooed on my leg 🦵 ✨ I have eight tattoos and I would love to get more. Each have a very special meaning and story. ✨ I live alone and have done for nearly 3 years ✨I’m a family oriented girly. ✨Big sister to two younger brothers - 26 and 12 ✨I love being in nature especially around water 🌿💧🌊☀️ ✨Favourite season is autumn 🍂 ✨My taste in music is varied - I love listening to the hot hits of the radio but can quickly switch to country, then to metal and then to screamo ✨ One of my goals for 2024 is to save so I can travel overseas for my 30th birthday next year ✈️ ✨ I am obsessed with getting my nails done 💅 ✨ I’m an aspiring leader - would really love to be an Assistant Principal one day.

There’s good reason why this is our week’s best seller. This name plate supports students as they learn to write and spell their names, form letters correctly, understand alphabetical order, counting to 20, using a number line and identifying left and right. 2023. Wow! I stepped off class into casual teaching to chase my dreams 😍 I spent two months travelling the world, making new friends all across the globe, exploring endless museums, learning about UK teaching life from @vibeteaching, trying delicious foods and spotting Dachshunds everywhere I went 🤭 I am so proud of myself for conquering my fears, prioritising my wellbeing and opening up my life to a world of new experiences. Tea and Sugar Christmas by Jane Jolly and Robert Ingpen is a non-fiction narrative that recounts the times when a mixed goods train used to take a weekly 1050-mile trip across the Australian desert to service all the settlements along the way. It carried groceries, shopping needs, banking facilities and even medical services. I don't normally like rhyming Christmas books (or many Christmas books at all, for that matter), but I'll make an exception for this one... Bin Chicken and the Christmas Turkey, written by Kate and Jol Temple and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh, is an entertaining poem about Bin Chicken’s dissatisfaction with the city’s Christmas rush period. She heads to the seaside to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and manages to find herself a ‘free’ Christmas meal in someone’s house while she’s there. This is a well-written and entertaining read and, even though it talks about Christmas, I think you could use it at any time of the year.
