Max the H Town Husky (@maxthehtownhuky) and Shima (@thatssoshima) in Brenham during our bluebonnet session. This was a windy day (to say the least) and the light stand kept blowing over. When it worked, it was a good reflector. When not, I was chasing it. Max found the whole thing pretty funny. Shima looks stunning with her wind blown hair and gorgeous brown eyes. Max is dapper in his handsome bow tie. The bluebonnets were dominant the end of March through the first week or so of April. Pentax K1 II with Pentax 50mm f1.4. The seeds are poisonous, but they are also used in native medicine. Specifically, the seeds are used as an abortifacient in native medicine. The shrub can grow to be up to 10 feet tall. Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) on arm of the feeder this afternoon. Storm clouds are gathering in, and I think the squirrels sense it. They were eager to feed right after I put out more seed and water. I've been working for a year now to build trust, gradually. I want them to feel comfortable as I take pictures. Slow, steady movements are OK. I got this from about 15 feet away. They are shy of having a camera lens pointed at them but getting gradually more trusting. Pentax K1 II with Pentax 70-200. ISO 500 for 1/1600 at f3.2. Wildlife photographers with Pentax equipment: check out @kobie_mc_ videos on YouTube. He has some excellent videos discussing the exposure, focus and shutter controls you will find educational. These are particularly relevant to the K3 III. I used a K1 II today as I had it right with me when the "antics" started. Wildlife is definitely a "catch as catch can" hobby. Side note: That tail. What a gorgeous tail on this magnificent squirrel! One of the squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) family members I support on the bird feeder arm. I am in awe of their agility. Check out the beautiful, nimble hands they have. They can easily walk out that arm to the feeder below (my April 5 post shows one sitting in the feeder). This one has probably been in some fights as the "dent" in the forehead reveals. Every day I go out 2 or 3 times to put sunflower seeds in the feeders. Today they let me get within 3 feet as I distributed seed. Maybe someday I can feed by hand. That would be awesome! Captured Labor Day weekend 2022. I must have had a book on Alfred Stieglitz checked out from the library at about this time. Stieglitz photographed clouds and then had a gallery show of those photographs. I believe the book was, "The Photography of Alfred Stieglitz: Georgia O'Keefe's Enduring Legacy". One of my all-time favorite places to visit, not just in Oklahoma but anywhere, is the Parallel Forest in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in southern Oklahoma. The forest, which covers 16 acres and features more than 20,000 red cedar trees planted 6ft apart in all directions, was planted by the government to see how it would affect the Dust Bowl. It is such a beautiful, peaceful place.
