MAYHEM AT MCNASTY RECAP: I played my first #discgolftournament of the 2024 season today at McNaughton Park near Peoria, Illinois! After a slow start, I played a really solid first round, which ended up being a 970-rated -5 (my best round since August 2022) to snag an 8-shot lead in MA40. I cleaned up a few things for the second round, but didn’t get as many birdies, and ended up with a 934-rated -1. Let’s be real on why Wildcat Bluff is my favorite of all the courses I played in 2023 … I played great there. In three tournament rounds (three of my top 11 rated rounds of the year), nobody in MA40 beat me there. I won the 14th annual Wildcat Bluff Open in October by eight strokes! And at the Titan Open in July, I went into the third round in sixth place, 10 shots out of first place, and fired a 951-rated round to jump into a third-place finish, four strokes behind the winner! . But besides that, Wildcat Bluff is beautiful! The volunteers keep it immaculate (there are brooms at every tee sign to keep the tees free of leaves or mulch)! The @nadgt.official Championship came to a close yesterday, and huge congrats to Landon Michael Williams for locking down the win. I definitely had higher hopes of placing better after that first day, but as we know playing this game, it's easy to be quickly humbled. Still ended up in a tie for 25th of 84, and shot above my rating 2 of the 4 rounds, and averaged 11 points higher than current rating. As usual though, the best part of this game for me is the people. It was great seeing some of my friends like J.D. Balderas, Carris Florie and @hurricaneharrigan , and finally meeting some that I've only chatted with online like my buddy Montana Rohrback, and of course all the new guys I met like Gabriel Burkman and others that I had the pleasure to play with from all over the US and Canada. Nothing spectacular, but I'm still in it. Currently in a tie at 10th out of 84 isn't too shabby, and only 5 back of the leader. I missed 3 early putts in the first 5🤦♂️. Started on #5 which is the 2nd longest on the course, but just couldn't take advantage of any of the long ones which I typically do well on. Only a few bad throws off the box, so overall I'm ok with my performance, but I know I have the potential to greatly improve tomorrow. RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL RECAP: I won my division at the Running with the Devil #discgolftournament for the second time, and first time since 2018! . I shot a bogey-free -5 to the short pins the first round, and the 952-rated round put me in first place with a four-shot lead. On the first hole of the second round, I took a 4 on the tough par-4 8th, but everyone else in the group carded a 7 or worse, and my lead ballooned to 7 shots. I missed a few putts over the next nine holes, and the lead shrunk back to 4, but then I finished strong (ending up with a 952-rated round) to win the MA40 division by 9 shots! .
