Just a little glimpse into some of my workshop activities today. After annealing the recycled sterling silver, I passed it through a rolling mill with some silk material in order to imprint a lovely silk texture to it. I then had to saw and file each piece back to its original cut length to correspond with correct ring sizes since the rolling mill elongates the silver. A very unglamorous photo of some of my trinkets including some of my cast pieces, some are from my personal collection and some are ready for a market, others will have a mould made and be cast again from a mould 🖤 For anyone who knows the casting process, and those that don’t, clean up from casting isn’t for the feint hearted, I’ve had to saw through 4 mm thick metal sprues, then file and sand away the excess sprue metal keeping the original shape of the piece. I’ve cleaned up all cast pieces now, apart from my scared heart which I’ve started to sort but the sprue was placed on the worst place for me as the maker (obviously best place to cast it securely though 🖤) so yeah… photos of that to follow haha. Loving the lost wax process, loving creating these trinkets and jewels. A bespoke ring I made recently; a cluster of 3 Blue Topaz stones set on an Erosion textured rectangular profile silver band. My customer wanted to avoid having sparkly stones and wanted something a little contemporary and irregular, so she decided on going for cabochons (smooth domed tops with flat bottoms). The largest stone is an 8mm London Blue Topaz, the middle stone is a 6mm Swiss Blue Topaz and the smallest a 4mm Sky Blue Topaz. The end result is rather fun ring, reminding me of bubbles! My entries for @livingstonestives open call ♥️ This open call pushed me to believe in myself and my work and I thoroughly enjoyed choosing the pieces to enter, and creating the two statement rings for my entry. I had fun choosing the photographs to use as well, I chose the side view of my labradorite ring because the side of a ring is as important as the top and usually it’s the top of the ring that gets all of the attention. I LOVE the details of the sheets of metal that have been melted and fused. I patina’d my moonstone and labradorite ring as I thought it looked delicious with a patina on!
My second piece from my metal smithing last weekend 🖤 This ring is made from copper, brass and sterling silver and has an absolutely stunning gypsy set labradorite and a beautiful claw set moonstone, which is a rose cut cabochon! Both stones are from @kernowcraft 🖤 The labradorite glitters… the moonstone twinkles ✨ I adore both of these stones so much. Moonstone has a lot of feminine energy and is good for soothing stress, for balancing out the menstrual cycle, it’s great to have during pregnancy, birth and in the postpartum period as support. I used moonstone all the way through my pregnancy with my now 4 year old and wore it when she was born, it provided so much support it makes me quite emotional when I think about it. Labradorite is very mystical and brings healing light energy, it also deflects unwanted energies around the aura and forms a barrier to any negative energies that are shed during a heart to heart with a friend or family member, or during therapy. It’s also a great stone for transformation. Just look at that blue in the moonstone…💙🌚
