The Curly Girl Method 🌷 Yes I know, I'm still going on about this! But it's just too good not to keep spreading the word! For those of you who don't know, the curly girl method is a set of "rules" that help nurture your hair to its full potential even if it was damaged before! My hair never used to go this curly! I have literally classed my hair type as wavy for years and lived in pigtails because otherwise it was a frizzy lion's mane! Now it's curlier and healthier than ever and it's all thanks to the curly girl method! So, what are those rules? 1. Avoid using heat, colour & shampoo! Wait what?! I hear you, but they are not concrete rules, check out my journey #bambirosecurlygirl and you'll see that I have used straighteners and I've only just started to ditch the shampoo (which I still use on occasion), so don't let these rules put you off, think of them more as guidance! 2. Cut out parabens, silicones, and sulfates from your hair care products! This one's a biggy, people don't realise that silicones actually block out the good stuff in the long run and sulfates are the culprit behind dryness! 3. Wash your hair less and don't brush it! Honestly, I struggle with these! But you should aim to wash every 3-4 days and if you're going to brush try to use your fingers! 4. Finally, ditch the towel and use either a cotton t-shirt or a microfibre towel! Regular towels are far too rough, causing frizz and damage to your hair strands. Curly Girl Update 🌷 So I've finally managed to ditch the shampoo (somewhat!). I mean, I have used it once in the last month so I'd say that's a step in the right direction! It 100% helps the curls, so I'd love to be able to ditch the shampoo entirely..... The only problem is the length of time between washes seems to get shorter and shorter, the longer I don't shampoo! It's why I eventually caved and gave it a good old scrub! 🛀 The conditioner on its own just doesn't seem to clean my hair well enough! If anyone has any recommendations for a good curly girl conditioner please DM me! For those who are new to the curly girl method, you really have to try it! All it takes is a change in hair products (to sulphate, silicone & paraben-free ones) and ditching the towel! If you want to be strict you should ditch heat, colour & shampoo too but you can still get great results even if you don't! "I glued my hair together " read on to learn the journey of the blue agave hair gel. Did you know the blue agave gel took over 2.5 years to formulate? This powerhouse was my original product I tried to create. I wanted a one and done product, a leave in conditioner with hold was my plan. One that offered moisture and great control yet didn't leave a hard, heavy or sticky residue. Traditional gels use polymers, a synthetic ingredient which is a fixative. I experimented using different polymers thinking I wasn't going to try to change the world just tweak what others before me had done. Every time it was dry, or offered little hold. Then a client mentioned low waste bars and how the conditioners don't work. That jumped me off the styler formulation train and straight into the bars which resulted in the first product of the curly bird range. The Co-Wash conditioner bar. I never stopped thinking about the styler, even trialing low waste options. I tried flaxseed based gels and gum based and it was just missing the punch. Then one day it hit me, I mixed up a batch with my new ingredient, it was the day I actually glued my hair together. The funny thing was, I actually filmed it. One day I might share it, there's me trying to scrunch out this impossible cast. Couldn't even get my fingers to my scalp, it hurt. I finally had the hold I was chasing I jus needed to pair it back quite a bit. It's a fun product to batch, one timing delay and you're in a whole new world of catastrophe but it's 100% worth it. Bringing a product to market that is completely unique, based on creation, knowledge, research and a hell of a lot of trial and error makes every time someone tells you how much they love it so much sweeter. So never give up, never stop trying, Step back and take a look from another angle. Curly Girl Method Update 🌸 Six months into the curly girl method and my hair is looking curlier and healthier than ever before! Although I'm not strictly following all the rules ( I still use heat and shampoo), there is still a drastic change from when I started! If you want to try this method, you need to eliminate hair products that contain Sulphates, Paraben & Silicones. Also, avoid using regular towels and instead use a cotton shirt or a microfibre towel to plop your hair. Lastly, use only conditioner (also known as co-washing) and avoid heat. However, many curly girls still use heat and shampoo and have very happy results. I know it can be daunting to follow all the rules but trust me, it's worth trying, even if you only cut out the ingredients. These ingredients can be harmful, especially for naturally coarse, thick, wavy, or curly hair. I recently used a silicone-based conditioner, thinking one use would be ok but my hair didn't go curly at all, plus the ends became very dry (to the point even my grandad noticed!). I was shocked that just one use containing silicones could have such a big impact on my hair. For me, this just shows how badly Silicones can affect certain hair types! Swipe left to see! Hello short hair! Curly Girl Update 🌸 The most common thing I hear that stops you ladies from trying the curly girl method is that you don't want to give up using heat on your hair! I totally get it - who wants to wait hours for their hair to dry naturally or be without the option to straighten?! So I decided to put it to the test! I wanted to see if using heat on my hair would make it less curly and if following the curly girl method was pointless if I was going to use heat anyway. Drumroll please..... the answer is no! Swipe left and see that my hair was still uber curly even after blow-drying & straightening it for a whole week! Don't be put off by the rules saying no heat - as long as you use heat protection and don't overdo it, your hair will bounce back to its usual self! Flex detangling brush is back in stock. This is my absolute favourite brush. Can detangle gently but bristles are stronger then most. Flex through the brush head to allow for limited damage. Enough teeth to use for tension brush styling with smooth edges for smoothing curl clumps. It's our go to brush for detangling and styling. Curly Girl Update 🌸 One of my less curly hair days... After months of great results from the curly girl method, my hair seems to have stopped being so bouncy and is now more on the wavy side again - I think it's finally reached that "I'm too long to bounce" length! Regardless, the curly girl method has been life-changing! Swipe left to see the ghastly, untamable, frizzy mess of what used to be my hair! My pictures speak for themselves and all you need to do is change your products and avoid harsh towelling! All I have done is ditched my regular towel for a microfibre-plopping towel and changed my hair products (including shampoo which I have still not ditched) over to sulphate, silicone and paraben-free ones!!
