Bit of an overdue progress post on the old nail. Bigger engine now fitted: 1600cc x/flow, bored out, 1300cc pistons, fast road cam and a pair of twin 40’s which have been vapour blasted by @therefinishingshop. Gearbox has been rebuilt with XR2 internals which now means it has a lower ratio 4th gear and final drive to hopefully make motorway journeys a bit quieter and better on fuel🫠Flywheel has also been lightened and balanced while it was out. It's been a minute since I've worked on Canine, @autoalex's Shedfest is only less than a couple weeks away and I haven't done anything major to the car yet. Been quite busy with other things so the Volvo was left in the back burner. Still have yet to order new suspension bits, coilovers, big brake kit, wheels/tyres, a new exhaust system, a whole cooling system, and get the old girl MOT'd and back on the road again. It's looking unlikely to get all that done on time which is pretty sad. Yesterday afternoon, I thought I'd spend a bit of time sorting the front bumper out and install back on the car. It was left in the outhouse for a while so developed quite a few creepy crawlies, dust and general muck in and out of the bumper. After cleaning it up, it's back on. It's nice to have her face back on eh?! It's all coming off again once she goes in for body and paint. Can't wait until that happens. Until then. It turned well to say I was chequer plate an hour ago. I'll get it wired & tested and all being well put the car back together tomorrow. Some progress has been made on Canine today. The whole front end has been cleaned up and the lights are back in and connected up. The grill has been cleaned inside and out thoroughly. I've spent ages cleaning up a tatty old 240 washer bottle, no idea why you can't get replacements of these, but with some effort, it's come up very well. That's the bracket and pumps cleaned too so it's now complete. The horn has been cleaned up, reinstalled and connected up. I've taken off the rocker cover to inspect what lurks within a 200,000 redblock engine. Pretty amazing condition. I've checked valve clearances while I could and all checks out, cleaned rocker cover and reinstalled with stainless hardware. Even though this engine isn't staying, I'd like it to run well and look the part for this show season. All little things, but it's a step forward. Next is to strip down the old suspension and order those @bcracing_uk BR Coilovers so they're all ready to be put together. All exciting things. A wonderful day spent with @t0mstan and Oscar the dog yesterday. We travelled in the Volvo 244DL to grab our coffee/car fix at the amazing @gasse.cafe. As you know, I love spending some time here, it's a great place to visit if you haven't been already. It's awesome to do some car bits with car friends and do car related stuff that isn't me stuck under the bonnet of my car. I found a little more motivation to get stuff done so I'll be going to smash out some hours on the 240 over the weekend. To save me time making one I bought the trigger sensor bracket @s_can_3d , as always with DSN it fits perfect. Unfortunately it's meant for a med killed and a VR sensor.
