Hanging out with uncle! ★ You guys REALLY seemed to like Chuma, so I decided to doodle a full body of him chilling out in the pridelands, which turned into a fully coloured and shaded piece of him with his niece, Aisha 😭 I originally thought it’d be a good opportunity to show off what makes him different from Kovu, because while he IS intended to look similar to his baby brother, they aren’t twins, but I added some story to it too. There’s the obvious, he has a missing leg, which, if you didn’t already know, he was born with, but he’s also a lot more angular where Kovu is boxy. His mane is more detailed (similarly to Mufasa’s) because he doesn’t take care of it, his under eye is darker than his over eye, he has piercing amber eyes, and his paws lack his underbellies colour on them. Now that’s out of the way I get to RAMBLEEEE So, a little bit of context, Aisha was mauled by African wild dogs in the Elephant Graveyard after following her elder siblings Nyekundu and Akina to check it out. Nye was under the impression that it was still abandoned after the hyenas had left so long ago, and thought it’d be fun to look around. While neither of his sisters wanted to, both tagged along anyway. None of them could’ve predicted what’d happen there, or that Aisha would end up with a permanent limp and half blind from the attack. Both Akina and Nye felt immense guilt for the incident, but especially Nye. I like to think after her wounds have healed, Kovu seeks the help of his big bro to try and teach Aisha how to walk again since he has experience, along with Tiifu, who also has a missing paw. While there’s no doubting that Aisha loves the rest of her family, I think she really clings to Chuma, and finds him funny. Edit: important note, sorry my ass is forgetful, Aisha isn’t my oc! A story by @ohimhurt_tlk !! ★ ❤️ ik you all voted for Kovu lore but this took me five days to complete It was definitely a labour of love, I went through a lot of different variations of this drawing to get to what it is now, and even after it was done I really wanted to have a story for the description since a lot of people liked the last one I did, so I acquired the help of my very good friend @ohimhurt_tlk to get the job done! But it doesn’t end there- what we ended up making was much too long to fit into the caption, even after it was cut down by me, so I’m just doing a regular old description. They were lovers once upon a time, though it was largely one sided, and in this drawing a teenage Kitunda is contemplating (get it?) using her as a sort of warmup to desensitise himself to killing. Terrible Twins ★ This was SO fun to draw!! I first started this way back in August, it was initially supposed to be a drawing of Scar and my take on the strange lion, but I couldn’t get Scar right, so I ditched it. Until last night! I decided to add Zira instead, because I don’t see many people draw her while she’s NOT killing kids. So that’s the story behind this! With all that out of the way, this is Zira and her older brother, Panya, who is affectionately named after the rat that’s living in my walls at the moment. These two are the only children of Damu, whose name you may recognise. He was the Prince that was betrothed to Uru by Matari, before Ahadi impersonated him, and stole his spot. Bitter about the whole affair, he raised his cubs to be cunning, sharp and, more importantly, machines. They endured harsh training under his paw, their only purpose being to become the rulers of the Pridelands, by any means possible, so his royal blood could live on. He didn’t care if they had to lie, cheat, kill, or, shock of all shocks, use their brains for once, as long as they made the lives of that family a living hell in his name. But how was he supposed to know BOTH his children would eventually fall for the youngest prince - however at different times? That’s probably who they’re gossiping about. Mail call... I got my #fye exclusive #thelionkingliveaction #scar (flocked) #funkopop from #ebay. He is an awesome #pop. The sculpt is really nice. He is much scarier than the animated versions of the character and is very well detailed. I especially love the sculpting and paint on his teeth. I do think that the flocking could be a bit more even in some places (such as his tail). Overall, I am definitely happy to add this guy to my #funkocollection. He is a really fun #toy and definitely worth getting if you are a #disney fan. Score...9.5/10

Just by passing, she has stolen away my heart. || Poetry found on the walls of Queen Nefertari's burial chamber written by Ramesses II ★ Okay, so, backstory on this post, Ramses the Great was OBSESSED with himself. His entire reign, it was all about him. But there were still SO many figures, statues, monuments, all dedicated to his wife in his tomb. The only thing that trumped his obsession with himself, was his obsession with his wife, and I think that’s beautiful. Hence, this post. In my AU, Yungiyungi and Matari are the MOST in love. In case anyone doesn’t know who these two are, they’re my versions of Mufasa and Scars grandparents! (Matari is from the comics, known as Mohatu, he’s just referred to by a different name in my au because Mohatu is made up.) just a tiny note I DID change Yungi’s design, but only a little!! It’s just EASIER to draw her with smooth cheek fluff, okay, don’t come for me 😭😭 They were actually pretty old when they became parents, so although this is set before the birth of Uru, they still look a little old here, even if Matari still has his dark nose gradient from when he was young. Something I didn’t touch on while writing both of their posts was that Matari actually gave Yungi the flowers that killed her on occasion, to try and cheer her up after giving birth to Uru. I wasn’t sure if it was wise to add it at first, given it’d imply Matari, though unintentionally, killed his wife. I also thought the idea I ended up leaning more into suited Yungi’s character more. But then I realised, the two can coexist. Matari gave Yungi the flowers to try and make her feel better as she was ill, and once discovering they were deadly, Yungi actively sought them out, keeping her discovery from her husband. It crushed him when he found out, so much so that in his grief, it’s said he roared the clouds away, just so there was no more rain to make the flowers grow, creating the worst drought the Pridelands had ever seen. “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty” - Maya Angelou ★ Kipepeo (Meaning “Butterfly”) Status: deceased Kipepeo was the second wife of his majesty, Matari, and stepmother to Uhuru. She was a friend of his and Yungiyungi’s as a teen, and was considered one of the former queens most trusted ladies in waiting. Her loss of sight was progressive and she felt shame for it for a time, noticing she was gradually relieved from more and more duties. However she learned to accept that part of herself and embrace it as a strength, and through the help of a younger Princess Yungi, became the best huntresses in the pridelands at their time. Reasonable and noble, and endlessly calm, Kipepeo had an overwhelming amount of faith in others throughout her life, constantly supportive of all of her pride sisters. Although she never showed any outward signs of impatience, or outrage, she was also never afraid to stand up for her values when it was something that she cared deeply for. She was incredibly steadfast, and rational. When Matari passed, Kipepeo filled the role as Queen to allow Uhuru and Ahadi to spend the rest of their youth as worry free as possible, until she eventually succumbed to her old age. She was reported to be staying in a narrow, rusty cage with barley enough space to move. It's unacceptable that animals at the Maasin Zoo continue to suffer from neglect in captivity while officials and government do nothing. Which is why I’m speading this petition to help her! These restrictions prevented her from making many real connections, resulting in very little being known about her for future generations. However, she was said to be quite creative and driven, with an interest in observing things from different angles. ‼️ TW: DISCUSSION OF DEPRESSION, MISCARRIAGE AND IMPLIED SUICIDE AHEAD, YOUVE BEEN WARNED ‼️ Her and Matari had many issues with conceiving heirs in their youth, trying many times, only to find blood pooled at her legs. She felt for a long time that in failing to produce heirs she was failing not only as a queen, but also as a partner, and convinced Matari to let them try again. After finally giving birth to Uhuru, Yungi suffered through serious postpartum depression. She felt a great disconnect between herself and the cub she’d wanted so dearly, refusing to nurse her, and only spending time with her out of necessity. She felt tired, like an empty shell of who she once was, and the thought that she’d brought a child into the world only to force them into the same system she was put into made her feel ill. The King watched her carefully, and did everything he could to help her, but it proved exceedingly difficult, since he had to cover her duties along with his own in her absence. He returned from patrol one day to find his beloved laid dead beside their daughter, covered in Lily of the Nile petals - the flower of which is poisonous to cats. Her passing took a toll on both the land and her husband, who struggled to do anything but weep. Despite initially distancing himself from her, fearing she’d meet a similar fate after being so close to the flowers, Yungi’s death inspired Matari to become a devoted father to Uhuru, knowing she was all he had left of her. ✪
The brightest star 💫 ★ Gen 1 Matari - AKA Mohatu (Name meaning “Like rain”) Status: deceased As King, Matari was rightfully very well respected. But mostly, he was beloved. Having a strong sense of justice and an even stronger instinct to protect, he dedicated himself to doing what was best for his pride. He spoke softly and was inviting to everyone he met in life, but,still, he was ruthless when he thought something had to be done for the greater good, and though he wouldn’t have hesitated to offer you solace in your time of need, he also wouldn’t have been stopped from doing what he felt had to be done. Despite being renowned for his title as the greatest ruler in the pridelands history, he was never born into the role. In fact, he wasn’t born in the pridelands at all. He hailed from a coalition of lions, all either exiled from their prides or simply wondering vagabonds, of which his father was the head of. He had been driven out of his kingdom by Matari’s mother, and given that him and his other, older son, Hakim, were all that remained of his glory days, he took them out into the wilderness and forced them to endure the hardships of his own mistakes with him. He was very small, and naturally curious, constantly doing things to try to win his fathers affection, that only made him fall further out of his favour. It eventually got to the point where he’d been practically abandoned, deemed as dead weight by the group, and left in the care of his brother. He ran away from them as a teen, after Hakim violently attempted to down him, wanting one less mouth for the coalition to feed. It left him with a broken bottom jaw, and a terrible, lifelong fear of water. After collapsing at the pridelands borders due to exhaustion, the prides Princess, Yungiyungi, nursed him back to health. She taught him how to speak again, and how to eat with his jaw, and when they were old enough they married, making Matari the king of the pridelands by her side. They struggled to conceive for a very long time, before eventually having their daughter, Uhuru. However, Yungi died later on due to poisoning, never living to see her grow. ✪ Tags in comments!
Busted || storytime! (with help from @geko.ink) ★ A thundering roar suddenly shook priderock, causing the nesting birds to flee from the trees in fear. The lions nearby lifted their heads, ears perked with interest and concern. King Matari was the one who had caused the disruption. His pupils were just barely slits, but you could still make out the furious amber that shone bright around them. Uru could’ve sworn she felt the rocks beneath her paws rattle. “Don’t go,” She tried to say, but it was too late. The smaller male cowardly crept towards the king in silence, keeping a safe distance in fear. He knew exactly what he was in for. This distance, however, was made almost nonexistent as Matari stepped directly and purposefully into his personal space, now a whisker length away from the pale yellow lion. “Ah, there he is. So you’re the one pretending to be me?” An older looking male cooed as he slithered out from behind the King, his paper thin moustache hanging on for dear life above his top lip as he spoke. Ahadi was rather taken aback by the lions appearance. For some reason, when he had imagined the prince he’d been impersonating, he hadn’t pictured him looking so, well.. *unfortunate.* *This* was who Uru was supposed to marry? He glanced to her, something in him thawing at the discovery that she wore the exact same expression of shock he did, although it morphed into disgust as the realisation settled. “I mean, they do say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but *this?*.. this is too far.” “Enough,” Mohatu snapped, “you will explain yourself at once!” He demanded, speckles of spit dotting Ahadi’s cheeks. “Who are you, *really?!*” The younger lions face twisted as he tried to find an answer, although as soon as he thought he’d found one, he sucked in his breath, and sighed. “Not a lion worthy of your trust, I’m afraid, your majesty.” He whispered, shame dripping from his voice. “So it’s *true!*” Matari looked momentarily horrified, taking back the space between them. “I let you into my home, I fed you, I allowed you near my *daughters!* And the entire time, you did nothing but *lie!”* ✪ Tags in comments !!
Second thoughts ★ Ruh roh This drawing took a surprisingly short amount of time, and was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be all things considered. Although, for some reason, my Ahadi design always stresses me out. Like, I put an unreasonable amount of pressure on myself to make sure he looks perfect. Not for me, for the people who follow me, and the people who’ll see him. I’m not really sure why I’m so bothered, but I am, and it sucks :// Anyway, In this particular drawing, Mohatu is leaving his chat with Ahadi, after finding the younger lion pacing anxiously at priderock. He passed on some words of wisdom, that unknowingly just made the poor guy even more conflicted then he was before. For any of you who don’t know (which will probably be all of you, knowing me), In my au Ahadi pretends to be a prince so he can kill Mohatu for the throne. A real Aladdin wannabe .. sort of ….. if Jafar forced Aladdin to kill Jasmines dad, maybe He’s not doing it for himself, but rather his father, the selfish lion, who’s been Mohatu’s rival since he was young. Of course, he didn’t consider that his son would fall in love with the Kings daughter, Princess Uhuru, but.. I mean, who would? Their story is intended to somewhat mirror Kovu and Kiaras, because I like starting things the same way they finish. And I definitely wanna draw more of this era of the pridelands, mainly with Uru, since I’ve only ever drawn her as a cub so far, so keep your eyes peeled for that if you’re interested!! They asked me to draw Tojo and Zazu from their headcanon, in which Zazu adopts Tojo after finding him abandoned, and in return he offered to match that energy by drawing my Ahadi and Scar/Kitunda! I fell absolutely head over heels in love with this story the moment I read it, and I’ve been following it closely ever since. The writing is amazing, and I particularly like how in character the dialogue is. Zap in general is such a criminally underrated creator, and I encourage all of you to check out their work! They went above and beyond with his half, and they also used Scars new name (Kitunda), which is a minor thing but something I do appreciate. A monkey’s uncle ★ Don Bluth Lion King? Don Bluth Lion King. I don’t really know what possessed me to do this, I was bored, and I’ve been reading The Secret of Nimh, so I suppose I just subconsciously decided to smash the two together. I really, genuinely think that the lion king would’ve been an amazing Don Bluth film. Of course, it probably wouldn’t have had the fantastic score by Hans Zimmer, since I’m pretty sure Don worked on a lower budget on most of his films (correct me if I’m wrong), but I believe it would’ve been a beautiful film visually. This took a lot of trial and error, and a lot of watching random little clips of animation on YouTube from All Dogs go to Heaven, the film for The Secret of Nimh, The Land Before Time, etc And also, a lot of help from the one and only @sleuthdraws !! I really encourage all of you to take a look at their account, they’re one of the most brilliant artists in the fandom, a fantastic writer, and an even better friend. I decided to add her daughter, Aarushi, because I feel like I don’t draw her enough. And people are constantly making Rani out to be some sort of abuser, even though she’s literally canonically like 15, so it’s a good kick in the teeth to them. You kicked and cried like a bullied child A grown man of 25 Oh, he said he'd cure your ills But he didn't and he never will || The Night Has Opened My Eyes - The Smiths ★ after yesterdays depressing post, here’s ANOTHER depressing post! 🥳 I’m still working out the kinks of the story behind this, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got it covered. Scar and Mchanga (Malkas mother) began their relationship when they were still rather young. Scar liked that she liked him, and Mchanga simply found him very handsome. As their relationship developed, it grew easier for Scar to get her under his thumb, bullying her and giving backhanded compliments so she’d bend over backwards to gain his approval. He exhausted her, wore her down, to stroke his own ego. And of course, surprising to nobody, when Mchanga fell pregnant he wanted nothing to do with her. In his eyes, she was used up, no longer perfect. There was nothing there to show off. He rejected them, although receiving a slap from his mother so thunderous it brought the rainy season early. Mchanga had returned to the pridelands the same day Scar caused the stampede, so that Malka could play with the other cubs, but quickly found that she couldn’t leave, not wanting to risk the hyenas hurting either of them. Scar took him from her sometime during his reign (as depicted above), intending to turn him against his mother, and into the perfect heir. Poor Malka didn’t have any say in the matter, but deep down, he was somewhat touched. All he’d ever wanted was a father to be proud of him, to choose him. He thought he finally found that, though he soon discovered it wasn’t what he was expecting. Not by a long shot. This was really fun to do, so you can bet I’m gonna be doing another! My Uru and Ahadi were designed by the amazing @shimmer.wolf.arts, so I can’t take full credit, though I did adjust them slightly to fit my style. This is the first time I’ve ever drawn my Mheetu, so he might change in the future, but for now I’m pretty happy with this design for him! Yes, it’s true, I’m trying to post more. I feel bad for anyone even remotely interested in my AU, because it’s always changing, and it’s ever so complicated. I’m working on it, I promise!! And as always if you have any questions you can always ask, but in the meantime I’ll be preparing a highlight for all my lore! Anyway, this drawing was just a little warmup I’ve always liked the idea that the elephants and the lions have an alliance of some kind from the lion guard, and figured I’d doodle what the beginning of the Ukumbusho tradition looked like in my Au. Uru and Tembo (Ma Tembo, though the “Ma” part of her name is reserved for when she’s the leader of her Herd, since “Ma” means “Mother” and here she’s just a calf) were an unlikely friendship. Back in the days of King Mohatu, peace between different species, especially between predator and prey, was almost unheard of, and frankly looked down upon. Baba Radi (Tembo’s father) and Mohatu were stumped by the pair, neither knowing quite what to do with them. However, since both rulers had lost their wives, and both children lost their mothers, they decided to form an alliance, so both girls could socialise, and flourish. “Kion! You’re *embarrassing* me in front of Kovu!” ★ I had a lot of fun the last time I added Kion into a TLK2 screenshot, so much fun that I did it again! This time it’s the scene I mentioned in my previous post with him, in which Kion and Kiara teach Kovu how to have fun, rather then Timon and Pumbaa. Y’all might’ve noticed that Kion and Chaka generally replace Timon and Pumbaa in my version of TLK2 That’s essentially because I find them annoying, and i can’t imagine why they’d ever want to stay in a place full of lions that would normally eat them, if not for the word of ONE guy (Simba). But also, I love drawing Teenage Kion. He and Kiara have a very close relationship. Despite being the oldest and the youngest, usually infamous for not getting along, these two are never too far away from one another. Though, they do tend to show their love through arguing, teasing and play fighting, something most of the pride can’t wrap their heads around. Kovu, for one, doesn’t understand their dynamic at all. He’s not used to siblings being affectionate with one another period, and where he’s from, teasing usually ends in a scrap. He kinda thinks they’re being serious at first, when Kion insults Kiaras hunting, and makes fun of her growing crush on Kovu, so he naturally jumps to her defence. He must’ve seen the paintings in the Lion Guards lair sometime, surely. It must be so heartbreaking to know the only way your family can be together now is on the wall. Zira was the only mother he’d ever known, and as much as he tries, he can’t stop loving her as one, even after all she’d done. It’s bittersweet knowing the person you looked up to for a majority of your life is a bad person, especially when they’re dead and gone. There’s nothing you can do about it, and there’s nothing you could’ve done about it either. You just have to come to terms with the fact that the image you have of them in your head just, isn’t who they really were, and keep on living. I wish more people actually approached Kovu and his trauma maturely instead of just making him emo for the sake of either bringing scar back through him or making their ships work. I guess I just wish more characters weren’t treated as throwaway jokes?? Especially when it comes to relationships and shipping. It’s Prince Achmed all over again!! /ref But yeah, I don’t really have a lot to say about this unfortunately. I’ve got the worst sunburn EVER and it makes it hard to concentrate. Ambush. ★ I drew this before Ahadi won on my poll so don’t come for me yall Not much about this scene, or the ambush itself, changes, except for the fact Chaka and Kion are there when Simba stumbles back to priderock rather then Timon and Pumba. I always thought the lighting in this scene should’ve been a bit more heavy to properly portray the intensity of the situation. I also always wished Kiara showed more concern for her father, rather then immediately jumping to kovus side without knowing what’d actually happened. I understand she has feelings for him, but I just can’t see her defending him so quickly. So, instead of Kiara being shocked at Kovus betrayal, Kion is. Kion was confident in Kovus change of heart, and practically worshiped the older lion, finding his upbringing interesting and his strength admirable. The Rhino chase scene in my headcanon is instead about Kovu and Kiara teaching a teenage Kion how to roar, rather then them helping Timon and Pumba, so when Kion hears the news, he’s pretty heartbroken. Chaka, on the other hand, never trusted Kovu, so while he isn’t surprised at the events that unfolded, he’s certainly shaken up to see his father so badly beaten.
