Happy 5th Birthday Brooke! I can’t believe you are FIVE! To one of the best baking partners!... I prayed for a daughter for SEVEN years. Yes seven. Right after the birth of my second son. I finally broke down in my kitchen cooking for a friend who had just had a baby girl. And I prayed the Lord would change my heart if it was not His will for me to have a daughter. I wanted The Lords Will because I knew it was what was best for me but I ached for a daughter. I had to let go and let God. And then a couple months later I unexpectedly got pregnant. We didn’t find out she was a girl until delivery. One of the most exciting days of my life. And after birth she almost died. I had to once again give her to the Lord. When I look at her I am reminded of his goodness. He didn’t have to but he did. The Bible says in Psalms 37:4 to delight in Him and He will give you the desires of your heart. I’m not a bible scholar and I don’t think He just gives us whatever we want. I do believe it has to align with his will for us. But I do know the Lord allows us to be proactive in our life with an action called prayer. This allows us to go to Him and talk to Him about His will, our lives & others. Sometimes the Lord wants us to know that when something happens it is solely because of Him. When Isaac was conceived, Abraham & Sarah knew it was only because of the Lord. Not because she was barren but because physically it was impossible to conceive after menopause! But God. But God gave me a daughter even though the only thing I deserve is death. Last bouquet of the year went out yesterday. And I loved doing this one. It was ordered for someone special this Christmas who is suffering from cancer. This one was very rewarding for me to do. It helped put my perspective in focus on how blessed my family and I are to be healthy this Christmas. I love the clients I get to bake for, they are encouraging for me. When I’m in my tiny kitchen with orders up to my head, I still feel the Lord showing me how blessed I am. How temporary all this is and it helps me to focus on what’s important. I get asked almost every year why do you celebrate Hanukkah, you are not a Jew?! Or usually something close to that. And my answer is well, I take that time to remember the miracle the Lord preformed for his people. It reminds me of the miracles that He is has done in my life! I remember the time he saved my daughter when she was dying and the doctors couldn’t find what was wrong with her and I sat and held her because I couldn’t do anything to save her as she was dying in my arms. For a reason the doctors couldn’t explain, within a single day her health changed. I remember the miracle of my sister. When the doctors told us she had a 8% chance of living after she contracted sepsis from a infection she received getting a tubal! This a Christmas she is spending it with her five children. These are just two out of many miracles. I will light the candles with my kids and we will read & talk about how Jesus observed this in John 10:22. And we will thank Him for his miracles because He is a faithful God who never forgets His people.
