When I was a child, in particular in high school (because that is when my parents owned their own home), there was a plaque on the outside of our house 🏠 with my parents names and the date of their marriage. It was hand painted 🎨 in fine script with colorful little delicate flowers🌺 and leaves🌱 all the way around as a border. It was rectangular and the top had a leather strap to hang it on a nail. I don't know who painted it but someone who loved and cared for my parents back in 1981 handmade this gift. It signified these two people made a family. It showed my parents commitment to eachother. It was, one of many things, that made our house a home 🏡. *** Over the years I have painted many of these for family and friends to extend the tradition, to keep it "alive". It is a tiny little piece of my life that gives me peace, joy, and a creative outlet 🎨. *** Just recently, I added the little circle for Mikayla, after years ago adding Aaron and Eli, onto our family sign; something we never thought was in the cards over a year ago (God / life surprises you). *** Eleven years ago Nick and I started our life together; just the 2 of us. I painted this is secret for him and showed him on February 27, 2012. We proudly hung it on the door to our carriage apartment signifying this was our home now; not Grace's apartment. The sign still gets hung on every door 🚪 of the places we live. Introducing our “Log of the Week” 6/19/22 “Nightmare at The Tree Trunk”. This log of the week put my sanity to the test. It was like going 15 rounds with Mike Tyson (or 1 round with Muhammad Ali)! We had to fight our way through nearly every pass, often times up against the ropes. This Black Walnut did not want us to make slabs of it. However as the hours passed, one-by-one the slabs came off and were piled up. Our “Log of The Week” 6/12/22: “Trifecta”, a Black Cherry Log. This massive Cherry stump was salvaged from a yard in Dobson, NC and is the final log of this group to be milled. Over 50” across one crotch and 36” across the other. A decision had to be made as to which lead to mill away.
