🍭Grizedale Forest 🌲 I’m back from 35 hours in the Lakes with the fam. Stop one was @grizedale.forest . Thankful that we have a van, that we can load with everything we own, we arrived and pretty swiftly picked up The North Face red route at Moor Top - it was raining, obvs. We smashed it down to the visitor centre thinking we would do some fun jumpy down hills before making the 10 year old ride 1,200ft straight up for more fun jumpy downs. Also a few boardwalks which I am NOT a fan of! It’s hard to explain exactly what it’s like to ride down these routes* and it is impossible to take photos or film** because two hands on the bars prevent death! I’m so thankful that I made kids who want to play out, who prefer getting wet and muddy and hurting themselves a bit to pretty much anything else. It’s taken some perseverance, and snacks! They don’t enjoy all aspects of all family rides, and neither do I. We had one fall on this ride that nearly stopped play, but some peanut M&Ms and some encouragement to laugh at yourself, not take ourselves seriously at all, got us back on the road sharpish. We aim to help each other wherever possible, that might mean someone bringing the snacks, someone bringing the laughs, someone bringing cuddles, and some practical pushing too. And, as long as the good bits are worth the bad bits we’ll keep doing it, together, Because being out like this makes my soul take back over and my heart feel stronger, for sure. Grizedale is a beautiful place and has all those classic @forestryengland vibes which are perfect for you gravel curious too! What a great day riding the trails in and around #grizedaleforest Thanks to Jamie having more than a rough idea of where to go and how different trails could be linked together. The weather really cooperated too with only a few minutes of very light rain when I expected there to be considerably more. My #innerchimp was definitely trying to make itself heard late on a trying to persuade me to carry on riding. I hope it shows up again at @the_dirty_reiver in a couple of weeks time. That kind of a helping hand with motivation will no doubt be most welcome. That said while not being the time or distance of the event, today’s ride has gone quite some way to give me confidence I’m in reasonable shape to enjoy The Dirty Reiver experience, which is what I’m after.
