One my recent additions to my collection is this Johnny Cash dealer poster from 1971. It was used to promote the new commercial that was introducing the MSOS system. In which Cash sings a Lionel song about the MSOS which is quite catchy. The quote on the poster is his first line in the commercial. The Amqui station was used by the L&N in Madison, Tennessee and was not really in use when Cash and Lionel filmed promotional pieces. When Cash found out it was going to be demolished in '79 he bought the station and moved it for preservation. This inspired him to cover "The L&N don't stop here anymore". Repainting and re-lettering this starter set 0-8-0 was a fun and affordable way to get a nice looking custom N&W S1 locomotive. It was also my first time using diy @micromarktools decal sheets. The decals are relatively easy to use, but you definitely have to get a little creative making yellow or light colored decals. I’m really impressed by the slow speed steps possible with the @soundtraxxdcc Blunami board and upgraded Pittman motor on this old retrofitted Williams brass 611. Functional number boards, class lights, and cab lights were installed as well. My latest find another 8022 Santa Fe J.C. Penney's Alco however this variation has a leftover Postwar shell from the 2041 Rock Island from 1969. This particular engine is most likely from 1970, and the black shell really makes it noticeable darker than it's other variations. Since the shell is leftover it is one of the few times that there is no MPC logo stamped or molded on a engine or rolling stock in 1970-1972. One of my recent finds a 9144 Rio Grande gondola from 1974-76. Even though it's past my 1972 MPC threshold this Fundimensions car has very nice colors and graphics. Even though you can't really tell from the photos this car has the light yellow lettering which is the hardest to find. However what made me add it to my collection is that it's only stamped on one side meaning it's an error car. I recently picked a rare and interesting variation of the 9705 Rio Grande boxcar from 1972. This variation was produced in small numbers and is how the car appears in the 1972 catalog. What makes this car interesting is that even though it's a 9700 series it has duel metal door guides like on the 6464 and 9200 series boxcars. This variation was made using a leftover earlier 9200 I.C. shells and using up silver doors that came on three 9200 series boxcars the 9202, 9211, and the 9215. The cars box is also interesting because it was miscut, which I have seen examples of in the Postwar era but not MPC prior. As with most prewar tinplate trains, the proportions are going to be incredibly wonky and unrealistic. But this thing is definitely going to be a beast. My latest find is what MPC collectors refer to as the "Royal Blue" 9011 Great Northern hopper. This is a rare car, the one I found is a component from a 1972 1182 Yardmaster set. In 1970 the 9011 Great Northern hopper debuted it was uncataloged and was virtually the same as the 9010. The hopper is normally found in light blue/Big Sky scheme (comparison piece) HOWEVER limited quantities from '71 appeared on darker shells. The darker shells are associated with the 9012 T.A.G. hopper so most likely they are a factory error like the Tuscan Burlington Northern gondola. My newest addition to my collection, the hard to find "White Pants" variation of the Johnnie Walker Red Label reefer from 1984. This car has an interesting history. For awhile collectors thought this variation was a pre-production sample and is listed as such in the Greenberg books, and yes it is that hard to find. The normal variation has blue pants and certain colors on his outfit are different and are more defined. However collectors now know that this was produced at the Lionel Tijuana, Mexico factory which operated between 1983-1985 under General Mills. I am ecstatic that one was added into my collection, even though I am a MPC era collector (1970-1972) this late in the game reefer is a hard to find piece. Personally I think it is interesting that "Johnnie" appears on the car correctly however the label on the box says "Johnny" that's incorrect. Collectors like to complain about the Mexican production however this particular car is a very nice piece for the time and really stands out. My little brass B&O Docksider has grown up in a very big way! Just this weekend my amazing friend @sidneystrains completed work on upgrading my Right of Way B&O C16 Docksider to full @soundtraxxdcc Blunami DCC with sounds and fan driven smoke! We had been discussing this upgrade ever since I got the engine and now it has come to a close. I cannot believe how clean and tight he was able to get the electronics in this small engine, as you can see by a few of his photos there isn't a ton of room available, and still got it all to work so well, keep the engine's weights, and install a smoke unit too! And, on top of all that, despite its size and being a purely weight-adhesion worked engine, this thing can still manage to shift a 12 car train with almost no wheelslip! The fact a 30+ year old conventional brass engine is working this well with today's tech is a testament to both the quality of the electronics and the caliber of Sid's work. If you've ever been on the fence about 3-Rail DCC, let this be your wake up call, it's incredible for upgrading older locomotives, especially brass! I already loved this engine to begin with, but now it has become a priceless piece which I will always treasure as part of my collection, made even more special because it was worked on by one of my closest friends. Thanks so much dude! Diese alte #märklin HR 800 fuhr nur langsam und rauchte aus dem Motorbereich. Also auseinandergeschraubt. Motorschild völlig verdreckt und verölt. Kurz gereinigt und schon läuft die Lok wieder tadellos. Zwischen Aus- und Zusammenbau lagen aber 4 Wochen. Dabei ging vergessen, wo das Blechteil mit Schraube, siehe vorne, hingehört. Zu dieser Lok ist mir keine Explosionszeichnung bekannt die das Rätsel lösen könnte. Wer kann helfen? Danke Gross notwendig scheint dieses Bauteil nicht zu sein zumal die Lok wie gesagt tadellos fährt und schaltet. This is one of my newest additions to my collection. It has an interesting story and all I can say is Holy date conundrum Batman! Lol This is the first coupon car of the 70's, which means that dealers did not receive this car innately. You had to send away for it and have two coupons and some money and send it to Mt. Clemens and then they will mail you back the car. What makes this car interesting is that if you have the different collector books each one says it's from a different year, 1972, 1973, and 1974. The car retains most of its postwar era stampings so it's dated 1956. This is my personal opinion on the car as an MPC era collector. The 9719 New Haven automobile boxcar is from 1972. I believe the earlier book got it correct and it seems to have leftovers doors from the 9210 and 9701 B&O automobile boxcars. Plus the coupons for this car were also released in 1972. I am RetroMikado once again, (again lol)! My namesake has rejoined the fleet! Gigantic shock to absolutely no one, it's another B&O engine. This is no ordinary generic B&O engine though, this is "THE" B&O engine. This is a Baldwin Q4b Mikado built in 1922 to a design created specifically by the railroad. These sturdy engines with their high boiler pressure and small cylinder diameter were known as lively runners and could be seen working everything from yard jobs to local freights and the occasional work extra. Mine, number 4470, was part of the penultimate batch delivered. This model is a Brass 3rd Rail offering from the mid-2010s with ERR Sound and EOB Cruise. The model features tons of amazing separate detail including accurate B&O details and a painted cab interior! It runs very smoothly and can haul a decent consist for a belt driven engine. While it's already a great engine, this is definitely getting a Blunami upgrade in the future, it absolutely deserves it! I was fortunate enough to aquire this engine from fellow collector @erictrainman back at Fall York who gave me an excellent deal, and I'm very appreciative to him for doing so, I've been wanting one of these engines ever since I started collecting scale and am thoroughly thrilled to have one among it's fellow B&O brethren.
