I know I’m a couple days late, but one of my favorite things to do on Earth Day is visit other zoos! @thetoledozoo has an amazing collection and my favorite has to be the polar bears. What a show to see when they swim alongside you behind glass! Seeing them dive into the water and swim was a wonderful reminder of how much we need to care for these magnificent animals and their habitat. Climate change is affecting the polar bear habitats in the Arctic to the point where these bears are starving. They use the ice to blend in and hunt seals. With temperatures rising, more ice is melting and this causing habitat loss for the powerful polar bear. As I watched this sweet old guy under his blanket, munching on grass, I struggled to find a way to actually take his photo. It was the middle of the day, so his white blanket was going to be blinding white, harsh shadows were cast over his face, so I had trouble seeing his eyes, and, he was essentially face down most of the time! I tried to get as low as possible in front of him so I could see his face when he did glance up, and it put me in the perfect spot to nab this! I loved my interaction with Fajar, but this may be my favorite orangutan photo from the trip!! If anyone knows this guy, I'd love to know more about him!
