Last weekend, our Founder and Creative Director, Krys, returned back to her Alma Mater @olemiss and worked with the @olemissrebelettes dance team. As a Rebelette alumni herself, Krys was elated to be back in the same place she once performed. Since graduating from Ole Miss in 2005, Krys continues to leave her imprint not only in the arts and entertainment sector, but dance as well, being a trained dancer herself. Dance is the main platform she utilizes within her day-to-day work as a dance educator, director, and coach here in Houston. Meet Dez, a drummer/dj with a passion for the performing arts. With 17 years of experience in the live and studio industry, he has developed a strong set of skills and a proven track record of success. In his youth, he studied and performed percussion in the marching band, concert band, and symphony orchestra. He the Drum Captain of the drumline his junior and senior year, and played snare all four years of high school. When he was not practicing school music, he played drums in a band that recorded in studios and performed live shows. Entering his college years he learned how to mix songs and began his DJ career. After a few years of working full-time as a DJ, he decided to learn how to mix as an audio engineer. Shortly after studying audio engineering in college, he began working in the live music industry. Notable places of work consist of: House of Blues (7 Years), Rise Rooftop (2 Years), Warehouse Live and Bayou Music Center. Notable artists he has opened for consist of: Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Cult, John 5, Steven Adler, Lil' Flip, & MadeinTYO. Our last Vinyl Rhythms and Jazz Notes went up a few notches with Kamiliyah Washington as the highlight of the night. A senior and theater student at Carver H.S. in Aldine I.S.D., Kamiliyah gave us an insatiably moving performance that was quite befitting for the evening and for the culture. Her bio is below🎭 **************************************************** Kamiliyah M. Washington has been gracing the stage as actor, singer, dancer since the age of five. She has appeared in numerous stage plays and musicals with French Creole Productions including "An Urban Christmas Tale", "Church Ladies", "The Black Keys", "Church Ladies Next Generation", "Personifications", "The Wizard of Swag", and others. After attending the G.W. Carver Summer Workshops at the ages of 8 and 10, she has come full circle as a Panther Player and Honor Thespian of Troupe 6753 in her own right. She has performed in the award-winning productions of "Bluest Eye" and "Summer, The Donna Summer Musical". Chosen to perform Main Stage at the '23 Texas Thespian Festival, she heads to Nationals in June. Kamiliyah has been accepted to several Universities, including Clark Atlanta, her second choice, but holds out hope of attending Howard University in the Fall of this year, where she will major in Theatre with an Acting emphasis. What Kamiliyah loves most about acting is being able to step outside of herself and experience other personas as she loves creating and entering other worlds. Saying goodbye to one of our favorite places in Houston! Curtis Monroe mentored our Creative Director (Krys), as she would pop in and sit in the back office and just talk. He let her work on a few shows as well to gain insight and experience. She also became familiar with some of the staff at @warehouselive, so Sunday was indeed bittersweet. Although Warehouse has a new home, it was the memories in the old location that was hard to let go of. We’re so happy to see @thephotonsamurai (Killian). He had a small break between tour stops, and he wanted to make sure he got by @futurestarsofhouston facility to see everything! He’s been on tour with @chilipeppers (the Red Hot Chili Peppers) part of their production crew. 27 trucks with a 6 hr build. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Tokyo and more. The project mapping, lasers, and lighting that he does is soooo incredibly dope! He’s been a part of Upward Artistry Talent Agency for over a year, and he is the absolute best!
