We had an amazing time at the University of Houston Jazz Festival! Jazz Band was named best band of the day and Jazz Orchestra was named best band of the festival! This beautiful lady was so incredibly soul-stirring, she had to get her own separate post. Our last Vinyl Rhythms and Jazz Notes went up a few notches with Kamiliyah Washington as the highlight of the night. A senior and theater student at Carver H.S. in Aldine I.S.D., Kamiliyah gave us an insatiably moving performance that was quite befitting for the evening and for the culture. Upward Artistry Arts and Entertainment Agency brings a platform to many artists and creatives, and we always want to make sure that we support our young artists and creatives on the rise. Kamiliyah Washington is our featured actress for "Vinyle Rhythms and Jazz Notes - THE BLACK EXPERIENCE + LOVERS EDITION" on Feb. 9th. Make sure you mark your calendar to not only have an eclectic evening with Upward, but support Kamiliyah and the entire Carver High School theater program in Aldine ISD. Her bio is below🎭 **************************************************** Kamiliyah M. Washington has been gracing the stage as actor, singer, dancer since the age of five. She has appeared in numerous stage plays and musicals with French Creole Productions including "An Urban Christmas Tale", "Church Ladies", "The Black Keys", "Church Ladies Next Generation", "Personifications", "The Wizard of Swag", and others. After attending the G.W. Carver Summer Workshops at the ages of 8 and 10, she has come full circle as a Panther Player and Honor Thespian of Troupe 6753 in her own right. She has performed in the award-winning productions of "Bluest Eye" and "Summer, The Donna Summer Musical". Chosen to perform Main Stage at the '23 Texas Thespian Festival, she heads to Nationals in June. Kamiliyah has been accepted to several Universities, including Clark Atlanta, her second choice, but holds out hope of attending Howard University in the Fall of this year, where she will major in Theatre with an Acting emphasis. What Kamiliyah loves most about acting is being able to step outside of herself and experience other personas as she loves creating and entering other worlds. Equally important to her, is being able to tell untold stories - giving life to forgotten, overlooked, and voiceless people.
