I’ve been wanting to go out and sketch the past week since I didn’t post last week for the first time in 2024. I’ve just been feeling lazy. Today, I just parked beside the park and stayed in the car. It was quite hot but bearable. I also ran out of data so it was just me, the world, and the Hamilton soundtrack. 🎵not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Aside from the building looking short and chubby I’m pretty happy with this. I experimented with the reflection of the glass. Not sure if it’s noticeable in the middle. And I finally used my white gel pens! It brought details to the glass. ❤️ Trees still need work especially bushes but it’s not bad. I don’t like how I scanned the image though. I’ve got warm lighting in the house and the photo I took on the spot is too bright cause it was in direct sunlight. This week’s session features @urbansketchersdubai hosted by @sharjaharchitecture. We went around the school exploring and capturing the exhibitions in the Trienniale “The Beauty of Impermanence”. Sketch 1: Pre-fabricated houses from Bangladesh. These houses struck me as it reminded me of SEA houses not a common structure in the Middle East. (This wasn’t part of the triennial but it was interesting) Also, my colors are more vibrant now! Although I don’t know what happened with the sky in general the colors are fuller. I’m getting a grasp of mixing colors. Sketch 2: Waymakers: this is actually made by tires! I tried something different. I tried just painting shapes (the mound) rather than having a base. I also tried to capture how the light is on the materials. Since it’s a cave it’s dark but there’s a hole on top so light passes through. Not my best but not bad too! Sketch 3: I wanted to capture the whole place. So I did the front of the school. Lots of arches and columns. Last sunday I went sketching with @urbansketchersdubai at the beautiful @alserkalavenue where @looktwicedrawonce gave a small workshop about sketching and storytelling. Since Global Village came to a close, I tried painting one of the stalls. I don’t think I’ve personally tried this one though haha. I played around with more saturation as well as adding text. Had a short staycation during the Eid holidays 🥰 all we did was cook, eat, sleep, and repeat twice a day 😂 What do you usually do on a staycation? 😂 For this painting, I tried imagining the structural lines for the building! Instead of just following the outlines of the photo. It did kinda help me understand the building a bit more. 🥰 I also like the way I did the bushes this time! It’s not just a green blob anymore. I tried making the overall painting a bit more pigmented? Saturated?
