We went to @slkitchenandbar in Langley, BC for a late dinner! When we got in, it was last call, so we ordered our food and drinks right away. While I'm typically a poke gal, I got the Aburi Salmon Bowl. It was very good. The salmon was cooked nicely, not overly cooked. I really liked the sauces in the bowl, it had a ponzu marinade and miso mayo. On top of Jasmine brown rice was edamame, mango, ginger, furikake beets, and wonton crisps. All together, it tasted harmonious. I think raw salmon would've been better, but I'm biased. We also got the Fried Mac & Cheese Sticks. I thought the mac and cheese might be dry, but it was actually creamy and delicious. Especially dipped in the San Marzano tomato sauce. It was Happy Hour, so it was cheaper to get two plates of two, versus the plate of four in the regular menu. For drinks I got a Dirty Martini and a Pisco Sour. The Dirty Martini was decent, but it was the first one I've had that didn't come with olives as garnish. There's nothing like biting into a cool olive after taking a sip of martini. The Pisco Sour was yummy! I love drinking these because it reminds me of drinking them in Peru with my husband ❤️. We made a booking one week in advance because it was my daughter’s birthday and she specially requested for Gyu-kaku, however we were told 10 minutes before our reservation time that the restaurant couldn’t serve us because they were closing due to technical problem. My daughter was getting upset and bursted into tears for the disappointment. So we ended up dropping by and when we were in the restaurant, the restaurant was still open and there were quite a few customers waiting to be seated. Obviously they were not closing, the waiters came over and told us last order was 8 o’clock(we entered at 7) and they stayed opened until 9 when we left. I still don’t get why they cancelled our reservation at the last minute and lied with a ridiculous reason, because they overbooked or what, but we were just a group of 5, it was not like we were having a big party. We were so crossed and felt mistreated. The quality of beef was under average, and the experience was horrible.
