Dernier incontournable avant de partir de Besançon : La citadelle ! Construite par Vauban, elle surplombe la ville. Elle est atteignable à pied depuis le centre ville mais préparez les cuisses, ça grimpe! La première partie est gratuite et offre un superbe point de vue sur la ville . Dans la partie payante il y a deux musées dont le musée de la résistance, très intéressant ( même s'il m'a un peu impressionné adolescente). Il y a également un zoo mais ils sont petit à petit en train de l'arrêter. Pas facile , d' avoir des espaces assez grands entre les remparts. 👉 Moi je vous conseille plutôt, d'y monter lors des évènements spéciaux, comme le cinéma et les concerts en plein air ou encore les soirées photos au couchers de soleil! Besançon : de l'antique Vesontio aux fortifications de Vauban Occupée dès le Néolithique le long du Doubs, les Séquanes s'installent dans le méandre du fleuve accessible uniquement par un passage à gué entourant leur cité d'une mur de berge. Sur la hauteur, un oppidum en éperon barré est construit devenant rapidement le centre économique de leur territoire entre Rhône, Saône, Vosges et Jura convoité par les Germains, les Suèves et les Éduens. Elle tirerait son nom de la divinité poliade Vesontio, divinité fluviale dont le nom viendrait du celte signifiant tourner, courber, enrouler, comme ce meandre d'un kilomètre de diamètre, dans une boucle presque parfaite surplombée par le mont Saint-Etienne coiffé par la citadelle, qui s'enroule autour de la ville. Après la conquête romaine, la cité est aménagée selon un plan en damier, la Grande Rue correspondant au cardo Maximus débouchant au sud sur l'unique pont antique, au nord sur la Porte Noire. Érigée vers 175, la Porte Noire est en réalité un arc de triomphe assez atypique dans le monde gallo-romain. Très décoré, il présente à la fois des victoires mythologiques et des victoires réalisées sous Marc-Aurèle notamment sa victoire contre les Parthes. A proximité, le square Castan avec ses vestiges de colonnes corinthiennes marquent l'emplacement du premier baptistère de la cité du IVe s. Sous la Tetrarchie, elle devient la capitale de la province Maxima Sequanorum. Plusieurs siècles plus tard, après l'entre de Besançon sous domination française, sur ordre de Louis XIV, Vauban fortifie la ville avec la citadelle et plusieurs forts inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 2008.
