Definitely a unique experience with no clothes allowed in the gender only hot tub and steam room areas. I was inspired the other day when an external facilitator asked me to help run a sub group session using the empty chair technique from Gestalt therapy. The technique is very effective as it allows the person to become aware of their thoughts and perspective and to visualise the other person in the dialogue as if they are present during the session. I learned a lot on Thursday but my key takeaways are: - it can be really effective be thrown in the deep end (i had zero time to plan or worry and yet i felt i did a really confident job). Just makes you wonder how unhelpful over thinking is. I often feel i have to be an expert in an area before i feel confident and that couldn't be further from the truth. - if we are willing to see a situation and open our mind to an alternative perseverance we can solve many problems without going into battle. - in general everyone wants to feel heard. Are we really listening? - most differences stem from very primal feelings that are often connected to how we feel about a situation and our interpretation of how someone has spoken or behaved but if we sit on their chair and see the world through their eyes it might help us become unstuck
