Happy #worldveterinaryday ! 2024 makes it year 15 in the vet field for me. Starting as a veterinary assistant and helping as a receptionist to a registered veterinary technologist. There have been a lot of highs, and even more lows, but I wouldn’t change what I do for the world. I’ve made so many friends between tech school, clients and of course my amazing coworkers. I love being able to constantly learn new things as medicine is changing every day. A lot of days are hard- sick animals with worried pet parents, aggressive patients, burnout/compassion fatigue, long days with little breaks, angry clients, difficult cases, physical/emotional/mental exhaustion, and of course euthanasias. But when we’re able to help a pet that came in ill get to go home with their relieved family makes it worth it. Being in general practice, some days we never know what we’re going to get.it’s not just puppies and kittens all day. Yes we have your typical vaccine and wellness appointment, but we also get that new puppy with diarrhea that has parvo. Vomiting dog turned pancreatitis or needs life saving surgery due to a foreign body. Limping dog turns into osteosarcoma. Coughing dog they thought was kennel cough actually is in heart failure. Puking cat turns into kidney failure. The list goes on and on. There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes of vet offices that clients don’t see it understand. All I ask is you have compassion and you have patience with your vet staff. 🌎 Día Mundial del Médico Veterinario 🐾 🫂 En este día de emociones encontradas, quiero enviar un fuerte abrazo a tod@s mis querid@s colegas alrededor del mundo: a quienes se entregan a diario por mejorar las prácticas clínicas y el bienestar de los animales bajo cuidado humano 🐕🐈🐅🦒🦓🦍, a quienes cuidan la salud humana y la de los ecosistemas 😷🔬🦦🌱🌳, y a quienes se desarrollan en tantas otras áreas de nuestra versátil y necesaria profesión 🙏⛑️🩺 ¡El mundo necesita más personas con su pasión y compromiso! 🪷 A la vez, también me gustaría visibilizar lo complejo que puede ser desarrollarnos en un mundo que no para... Donde día a día nos vemos forzad@s a lidiar con maltrato animal, con la muerte, con la agresividad de los tutores, la incansable competencia dentro del gremio, la ausencia de leyes que nos reconozcan como Médicos, que nos permitan crecer y que nos protejan, entre tantas otras dificultades que trae el camino... Un bello camino a largo plazo, pero que realmente puede ser agotador. Yo he sido de aquellas que han estado a punto de "tirar la toalla" y dejar la profesión 😔 🙌 Por eso, cuidémonos entre todos, colegas. 🤗 Nuevamente el día mundial de la medicina veterinaria lo celebramos enfrentando desafíos, en este caso una cirugía muy compleja en una paciente de 15 años, con una masa tumoral de gran tamaño (última foto). 📍Este año la Asociación mundial de veterinaria (WVA) propone el tema "Los veterinarios son trabajadores esenciales de la salud" y es que además de cuidar la salud y el bienestar de los animales, los veterinarios somos fundamentales para lograr el éxito en desafíos globales como la prevención de zoonosis, inocuidad/seguridad alimentaria y el control en la resistencia a los antibióticos. 🏦Todos estos aportes no han sido suficientes para nuestros congresistas de 🇨🇱, siendo incapaces de apoyarnos (invisibilizándonos) para ser reconocidos como profesionales de la salud y así trabajar en el cumplimiento de los objetivos de UNA SALUD, a través de un trabajo interdisciplinario con enfoque integrado y unificador. 🐾🏞️💁 . . #worldveterinaryday #worldvetday #díamundialdelamedicinaveterinaria #veterinaria #medicinaveterinaria #onehealth #una salud #perros #gatos #bienestaranimal #tenenciaresponsable #vetlife #doglife #instadog
