Perhaps the diversity of the works he composed was also a result of the lifestyle he led, including a passion for taking train journeys. Above all, he believed โA melody is a beautiful thing. It can touch the soul in ways words cannotโ. . Usually, the composition of a requiem mass is motivated by the death of someone close, or the premonition of their own death. In fact, Dvorakโs Requiem was commissioned by London-based publishers, Novello, to write a mass for the dead โ a challenge he was intent on completing. . โMusic is the most spiritual of the artsโ became his mantra and a vehicle to produce his testimony of his perceived relationship with God and to ponder the basic issues of humanity. A devout Catholic, Dvorak was also a devotee of requiem settings which had been composed since the 15th century. . The Requiem is thus a funeral mass for soloists, choir, and orchestra. There is a rare kotuku white heron hanging out at Waikanae River estuary recently. It has been in the news because no one has seen one here in recent memory. There are only around 100 in NZ, although they're more common overseas. I don't have the right camera gear to take the amazing photos I am seeing others post but she is beautiful and it was lovely to spend time watching her. The Kลtuku, or white heron is listed as 'critically endangered' in Aotearoa with only 100 to 150 remaining. They breed only in one place, on the west coast of the south island. This one has been vacationing in my local lagoons for the past couple of weeks. We are not even on the south island. Kลtuku features on our $2 coin, and on the sign as you enter my suburb, which happens to be Kลtuku Park ๐ฒ. Was so excited by the massive cabinet selection and this was at 2pm @joe.and.joy Too good to resist so we started with desserts while we waited for our mains. My friends had the crรจme brรปlรฉe donut I got one for takeaway and had the duo mousse. Demolished my dessert as I was hungry ๐ It had a layer of chocolate mud cake, chocolate mousse and vanilla mousse. However, I did not find it too sweet and it was good! Ordered the southern fried chicken waffles and that chicken was so tender! Defs the star of the show. The waffles I found a little on the dryer side. Also purchased the freshly made vegan bagels which was a hit with the fam. They tried it as soon as I gave it to them. Was a nice change to have a bagel that was on the softer side and not rock hard! Got the berry chocolate cake for takeaway too. Very cute setup with beachy vibes -M
