Day 160th. Made it to Kaladar in spite of a discombobulating morning Sunshine and cheery kind people and coffee and a push up a hill Friends of new friends stopped on the road wirh encouragement and care and apples and chocolate - and a BANANA!!! (such a treat because they really don't travel well) A friend from this page stopped with mocha and a muffin and hugs - and a red blinky light and an air horn and bright orange poncho, and the super fantastic ultra cool high visibility waterproof cloche hat on one of these photos!!! The highway and shoulders are recently paved, and while I'm still on the gravel a lot, so as to be farther over, it sure helps The tourist information place is closed, so i stopped at the OPP station and asked permission, and after saying it'd be alright, the young officer told me he'd been at the Montreal strike!!! Now having a subway sandwich with a bijillion pickles on it while the phone charges a little, and then we'll go pitch this tent I'm so grateful for good human beings... Whenever I start second guessing all this, even more come out of the woodwork all over the place It really is a pretty amazing world... And people are amazing... Day 160th ...and *poof* somehow another day is gone... In spite of waking up, from not sleeping, to a morning made of cold wet clothing and boots, we had a beautiful day I ate gfted almonds and dates for breakfast We were given water and encouragement before leaving Actinolite An eagle gave us a blessing as we made our way back to the highway Drivers were so considerate We were given understanding and hope - and beautiful granola bars, and lunch, and Mr Myrtle was given his own special order of chicken! - at a chip truck that makes some of the best fries I've ever had We were given patience and kindness by so many people as I rearranged the itinerary yet again so we can have a healing day tomorrow at this beautiful campground... Our tent is in the quiet back corner (with a shortcut to the bathroom)... No neighbours, no dogs near... just a small river only yards from our doorstep (tentstep?) and trees and ferns and grasses and a huge ancient maple with a twisty trunk And a furry caterpillar who befriended my arm (I took her to a safer spot) It took me three hours to do an hour and a half walk, and that's not counting the breaks, two of which were long So... Photos from yesterday, and today ...and *poof* somehow another day is gone... i write about the immediate concerns, and I take a day off from walking, again, to heal, again... but none of us has time... Every day we don't change is a day less of our few and numbered days... Our days to make a difference... our days on this Earth... MMS was getting low on kibble, and i was worrying about budget (what with being camped here so long and not finding a ride yet, and will have to have enough to chip in for said ride when we find it) And then James Mainville and his family turned up with kibble, and dinner, and some other groceries - and wild blueberries, ohmygoodness Thank you so much... MMS, our ginormous new tent, and things mostly packed to save time in the morning This tent is a story... A few days after the beautiful borrowed rhinowolf was stolen, i was scootering around Winnipeg trying to get some things done, and stopped for a beer on a patio with the friend i was with A lady going inside asked about my little caravan, and was so taken with this mission that she told everyone i. The bar, whereupon the barmaid came out to the patio - with a tent! An angry man had been in a couple hours earlier, cussing about this tent he'd just gotten which apparently had a broken zipper and was no good at all, and he never wanted to see it again, and left it behind Nothing wrong with this tent... In Winnipeg, at the home of one of the XR members here Was stranded in Elie Manitoba last night, but got a lift with a road construction worker who helped me push the scooter up a crazy steep hill in Brandon and then stopped to talk when he passed us on the highway yesterday, and was passing through Elie on his way home I'll catch up with that and other stories while stopping here, which will be a little while, because I'm realizing how tired I really am... it will be good to have a break... Day 52nd. In Whitewood... Migraine cleared with the weather... Maybe less farm chemicals too? But weather is certainly bizarrely uppy downy, and just plain strange Had a long interview at the newspaper for the area and it was good... as well as what I'm doing, we talked do much about community, and how to go back to living the 'old ways', living with the earth... And so many things related to those... About how students are becoming so very aware and informed, and making so much difference... about the ripple effects of the conversations and meetings if this journey... I don't even remember the rest, but so much Another thank you to the people who wrote and sent out all those press releases Passed a grocery store between newspaper and truckstop restaurant ( I'm so hungry I could eat a horse, if it was made vegetarianly) so I got more clif bars for the road... They even had my favourite. There is a campground, will go there next, apparently it's cheap and has showers, yay Tomorrow, to Wapella, tiny town but it has a diner, and I forget what else the newspaper lady said is there but I remember was somewhere I figured we can pitch the tent Wow I'm tired... Climate changes everything... So does weather Weather affects fibromyalgia, and old injuries that never healed, and migraines, all of which kicked in yesterday with a sludgey roar due to the uppy-downiness of the weather the past few days I did think of not going... Of stopping partway... Of giving up... None of those seemed like viable useful options, especially after the encouragement from a passing bicyclist from Quebec who couldn't possibly have known how much difference he made, so I just kept going Got to Grenfell around 3:30ish I think... The motel wouldn't consider a discount, the campground cost $20 I'd rather spend on food and it was another half hour of walking I just couldn't do, so I crossed the road to ask the little local truckstop to please let me pitch the tent . But first I met a young man here from Japan, crossing Canada on his bicycle, and we talked a while... He told me he is trying to catch up to a man doing the same trip on a UNICYCLE, of all things! He also loved my purpose, and signed my letter I lost my pen, though, so we asked a man driving by for one, and that man had seen me on the Regina news, and kindly offered to let me pitch the tent in his yard, as well as a shower... Another piece of living proof that humanity is innately good, which us why I continue to believe we will step up, we will change, and will not let life end We slept so well, and this day is already clearer, in terms of weather, and pain, and purpose. Changing places, changing perspective, changing the world . This is not my journey, and i am not in charge of the itinerary. I stayed with Naomi Hunter, who is this areas best hope for a government that can be part of the deep changes we need... And her daughter North, local mainstay for the youth demanding that we be the change they and this world need. Staying now with Carmel Crowchild, granddaughter of two nations and wise woman in her own right, representative of those whom our selfishness betrayed and damaged beyond belief, and who even now show us how to live the change we need. I get so frustrated about having to stop and heal, and about having to ask for help... But because of it, I have met these people, who have turned their lives over to the earth and to life. I have also met young people with more hope and rage and love and responsibility than a millenium of adults have managed to embody. I've met ones too old to change who are now anyways without realizing how much, and others for whom it's just always been a way of life and now it's unstoppable. I've made friends who can't leave their homes but are walking with me in their messages and their hearts. I've been part of conversations that will grow to cover this country in possibility. I've seen seeds planted that can sprout a future. I'm still just me, though, and I still get frustrated and discombobulated... But I'm healing, and learning, and never giving up - on this walk, or this planet. That purpose is what's writing the itinerary of this Walk. Come walk with me, in person or in spirit... Day 26th. I can't believe this is letting me post - so much to say!!! I'll put it in a nutshell... Swift Current radio station just interviewed me by phone on the side of the highway somewhere between Waldeck and Rush Lake! It'll be on the air today or tomorrow, on then posted online as well... Thank you so much for your time, Penny, and for being part of this purpose The reason we've already gotten so far today is because the very kind gentleman who runs the Trail Campground in Swift Current was do terribly worried about us not bring able to go as far as Herbert today that he brought us the first several km, to near Waldeck... I argued, a lot actually, but I'm pretty sure he would have spent the day surreptitiously following to worry more, which would have involved not only much looping and backtracking and refollowing (and thus about ten times the emission s of accepting his kindness), but also would have meant calling in his employee, away from her family, on her day off... Do I accepted... And if you're ever in Swift Current, Trail Campground is clean, safe, and very good people, do stay... And hug them for us Very cooperative wind and weather and hills... Done far more km already (by foot and scooter, I mean) than expected Which is another thing... All your care and prayers and help, and help along the way, and ice and rest, and now knee brace .. it's helped do very much I want to hug ALL of you... But I wouldn't be in such great shape do quickly without Angelika Thorpe and Tanya Sanchez... Day 23th. I walked into Webb and yes it really is a handful of houses, nothing else... Two men sitting by a huge house, so I asked if there was any kind of store, and they said no and asked what I needed... I said I'd gotten as far as I could got that day, and was there an out of the way corner where I could pitch a tent... He said anywhere here on his property, and asked why, what was I doing, do I explained in a nutshell... Boy, a lot of people are angry at our government ... he doesn't use Facebook or anything but asked me to please make sure a piece of that piece-of-my-mind I give Trudeau would please be from him... Anyways, I must be pretty stinky, he said I could take a shower in the house if I wanted, and said he doesn't live here, he's renovating it, and I might as well take my bedroll (his words) inside for the night if I wanted... Huge place built in 1921, and reno is a huge understatement... So I have a warm roof and power... Water is fine for a shower but not drinkable but lots in the fridge and also a water cooler... He said repeatedly to help myself and make sure MMS gets enough... Dinner - apples and oranges given to me in Tompkins, with a couple cliff bars (those organic vegan gf granola bars) and some organic vegan gf protein drink because I stumbled on two big things of that for crazy cheap at the shop in Gull Lake this morning when I had to go back to use the ATM because the one at the truckstop quit working just as I turned up (seriously, it did)... Knee is done for the day but not unhealing...
