Travel Tip #11 Take a reusable water bottle through airport security and fill it up at your gate. When getting through security you cannot bring in any type of liquids. And it can be pricy to buy a simple water bottle once you get though. So, a great alternative is to bring your own reusable water bottle to fill up once you are sitting around waiting for your flight. My personal favorite is a water bottle that doesn’t have the straws on top and you can secure the lid just in case you drop it. I also love the big handle making it easy to hold onto or secure it to my suitcase. Tip # 10 Don’t believe the cheap flight myths! You most likely have heard many ways to help you fly cheaply. Let’s go over a couple of those myths that have been debunked. The first one is that you should buy your flights on a Tuesday for the best deals. There is no proven day that is better than the next one. Cheap flights can pop up any day of the week. So, when you see Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or Travel Tuesday, they are just a marketing ploy, and you won’t find better deals. Secondly, clear your cookies the airlines are following your search history. Airlines, Google Flights, Expedia, and other sites are not tracking you while you look for flights. If you see a sudden jump in pricing that is because the airlines are constantly updating their prices because of ticket sales and demand changes. If you really want to get a good deal on flights forget about the day you book your flights but maybe look at the days, you fly to and from vacation. Tip #6 Be Flexible Traveling should be one of the happiest moments in our lives. But sometimes it can turn into one of the most stressful times for some people. What should you do to help prevent that stress? When planning a vacation, you should account for any instances that may occur by being flexible. Flying home with delays is annoying but at least your vacation is done. #featuredfriday It’s finally Friday, my friends. Today at Wanderlust Travel Jetsetter I want to talk about Pompeii, Italy. This historical archaeological site is in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the bay of Naples. Pompeii dates back to the 8th century BC where ancient Greek settlers made Pompeii part of the Hellenistic sphere. By the second century BC, it had fallen under the Roman Empire. This area near the bay of Naples was a popular destination for wealthy vacationers from Rome who relished the Campania coastline. It wasn’t until 79 AD it took Mount Vesuvius two days of eruption to finally sputter to an end. By this time about 2000 Pompeiians had died in the city and a total of 16,000 were killed in Pompeii, Herculaneum, and small villages in the area. Years passed where Pompeii was forgotten, and nobody talked about it again for another 2000 years when it was finally rediscovered. It wasn’t until 1748 when Pompeii remained mostly untouched that a group of explorers arrived in Campania looking for ancient artifacts and began digging. To this day, they continue to discover so much about the city of Pompeii where it remained almost the same for 2000 years. Today you can visit Pompeii walking back in time. They also have most of the relics, preserved artworks, and other artifacts located in the Pompeii Antiquarium located among the city’s ruins. “In the darkness you could hear the crying of women, the wailing of infants, and the shouting of men. One of the best parts about cruising is what excursion to take once your ship makes it to port. Back in October of 2021, on my Norwegian Cruise around Greece, we ported in Rhodes, Greece. This port was one of six that we visited on this particular itinerary. Some of the highlights that we did was the Monastery of Filerimos of Rhodes, visited the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights, enjoyed the historic Rhodes Old Town, and got to walk down street of the Knights.
