Once again it’s been a min. since I’ve posted any work. I’ve been playing with sand casting , custom work and in between trying ready our house to sell in the near future. That’s a lot of crazy making 🤪 but here is a recent offering. Two sided Sterling Silver sand cast pendant from an original wax carving, Adored with an emerald (May’s birthstone), & a rose gold bead on one side & the other side is a diamond & yellow gold bead. Oxidized silver to draw out the organic details. I’m really excited about this process. And intentionally wax carved with joy and abandonment! An insight into what’s to come. Part of my process involves using the lost wax casting process. I create a mould of my texture and create a replica in wax. The wax is then hand carved to create wearable pieces that will then be cast into 925 recycled silver. I like to use hand crafted techniques and processed within my work to not only develop my practical skills but it brings me closer to home. Across the world there are many meanings for these flowers and often depending on their colour. For greek it is a protector against evil spirits and for Japanese a symbol of a long and happy life. It is the flower connected to the month November. Made in wax and casted in silver. Zilveren chrysant hanger 🌼. Melanie made two rings today. She had never done any wax carving here so in our 3 hr we covered materials, tools, sizing, basic carving, shaping and then moved onto smoothing and more measured shaping with the wave ring. From here she will cast and use my online beginners course to finish off as she’s just visiting. She did a terrific job. I love teaching these classes. Every session gives back to me and leaves me just as inspired as the students.
All set up for a private tuition class today- beginners hard wax carving. I will show you some pics later. We are covering the basics and making two rings in a 3 hr session. Wax carving does get faster as you become more experienced but I still love to take my time, put some nice music on and just enjoy the creative experience.
