There are just a few more days to see the spring iteration of “Object Lab,” our hybrid gallery-classroom, before it closes on Sunday! This version of “Object Lab: features nine @williamscollege classes that have engaged with art throughout the semester, including Science and Technology Studies 290: Technologies of Friendship. On Wednesday, professor Ezra Feldman and two students met in the gallery to discuss their interpretations of the three photographs in this class section: “Martha Graham – Lamentation (Oblique)” and “Martha Graham – Celebration (Trio)” by Barbara Morgan and “Las dos Fridas–Sangre/Semen–Línea de vida (Two Fridas–Blood/Semen–Lifeline)” by Germain Machuca. In this class, students have examined how writers across centuries have described the tools and technologies of friendship, from the sentimental to the invasive, and they have learned more about each friendship and the resulting impact on the collaborative artistic processes that led to these photographs. The first week of April is Archives Awareness Week. To celebrate, here's some background on how Wellington County’s Archives came into existence: 🏪 The Wellington County Museum began in 1954, when the Wellington County Historical Society acquired a converted storefront on Mill Street, Elora to house and display their growing collection of objects and documents. 🏛️ The Museum moved to its present location in the former Wellington County House of Industry and Refuge / County Home for the Aged in 1974. 📜 The Archives was formally established to properly organize and store the Museum’s historical documents and papers in the early 1980s; a dedicated Archives wing was constructed and opened in 2010. 🖥️ The current Archives facility features specialized storage space with controlled temperature and humidity conditions to optimally protect the archival collections. It also includes a public reading room and microfilm area for researchers. One of the early acquisitions for our collection is this map: A Plan of the District of Wellington in the Province of Canada (Map 0038). Created in July of 1842 by Robert W. Kerr, District Surveyor, this map is hand drawn on cloth and shows the area where Wellington County now exists - 25 years before the Confederation of Canada. This is one of over 3000 digital and physical maps in the Archives collection. #2024AAW #WCMA

Join us This evening, on Wednesday March 27th from 6-8pm at the 3rd street center in the Callaway Room as Dr. SHIVA DEVKOTA offers His talk: Mycophilic Bonds: Mountains, Mushrooms, and the Ethnomycological Thread Shiva Devkota, a Research Scientist at Gandaki Province Academy of Science and Technology (GPAST), Nepal, earned his PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Bern University, Switzerland. As a PhD returnee to Nepal, Shiva has significantly contributed to the field of Mycology, particularly focusing on Caterpillar fungus, Wild Mushrooms and Lichens since about two decades with interesting publications. Notably, he initiated the “Digitization of mycological collections in Nepal - 2020” project, resulting in the complete digitization of 6433 herbariums (mushrooms and lichens), now accessible on the GBIF Global Portal. Together with International Mountain Trekking, Washington DC, Shiva introduced mycotourism in Nepal, organizing successful expeditions in Everest (2022) and Annapurna (2023), with plans to revisit Everest in 2024. This mycotourism initiative has gained recognition in various national and international media outlets, including the Washington Post, The Explorers Journal, and Fungi Magazine. Apart from that Shiva has also introduced metagenomic approach to map mycorrhizal fungal networks in the Everest area being the SPUN underground explorer 2023. Shiva Devkota’s contributions extend globally, as evidenced by the naming of a new lichen species, Lobaria devkotae M.X. Yang &; Scheid., discovered in Xizang Province, China, and described in the journal PERSOONIA 2022. Another cage to add to the books! Relativity simple design built to do some lapping at WCMA regulation/tech requirements. Had to add the usual X in the back stays to the design. It just looks awesome from the back of the car. Got the main hoop up nice and tight to the roof, allowing me to weld directly to the chassis in multiple spots. Oem dash bar was requested to stay, and so the cage dash bar runs just above the oem one, X door bars made from 2 tubes, and lastly added his safety net latch/release. Trimmed the dash to fit back around the tubes, hiding a good portion of the work that was done underneath. Williams College has unveiled the design by Brooklyn's @solidobjectives for a new building for the @williamsartmuseum (WCMA), what will be the museum's first purpose-built home since it was inaugurated a century ago. Framed in mass timber and capped by a flowing, overhanging roof, @solidobjectives's design nestles itself into the Berkshires landscape. If all goes according to plan, the new WCMA will open its doors on the college's Williamstown, Massachusetts campus in 2027, one hundred years after the museum first opened — on April 19, 1927 — as the Lawrence Art Museum. Although the museum was first fitted into a building that was originally designed as a library, the early addition of classrooms to the building established a situation that has been at the heart of the museum to this day, namely that it is a teaching museum integral to the college's respected art history program.
