Jago and Litefoot- Voyage to Venus The story sees Jago and Litefoot join the 6th Doctor on the Tardis on a trip to Venus. This is a good story as it finally gives us a look at what it would be like if Jago and Litefoot became fully fledged companions for the Doctor and not just side characters. Seeing them react to being in the Tardis was really fun as you’d expect Jago tries to act calm but is openly out of place while Litefoot is more curious about everything. I like the set up to this mini series too, taking place right before season 4 of Jago and Litefoot and perfectly setting up season 5. I like the tone of the story, giving us a normal Doctor Who style story but bringing in Jago and Litefoot’s Victorian Era point of view to everything. The story also perfectly mimics classic sci fi stories from H.G Wells, with the writer of the story openly mentioning the author as one of his inspirations. I also like the descriptions of Venus, the writing allows us to perfectly imagine the setting as well as the alien animals. One thing that lets the story down is the side character, I found the villain Vulpina to be a little over the top and dull. Even though the actress Juliet Aubrey (Helen Cutter) is an amazing actor who presents the villain as really ruthless and cold, the writing sadly doesn’t give her much to do and doesn’t allow the villain to be overly complex or interesting. Something I did enjoy was her dynamic with Jago, as she developed feelings for the showman, wanting him to entertain her. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #jagoandlitefoot #christopherbenjamin #trevorbaxter #6thdoctor #colinbaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #thedoctor #lisabowerman #strax #elliehigson #daleks #cybermen #zygons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #magnusgreel

Doctor Who- Phantoms of the Deep The story sees the Doctor and co wind up on the ocean floor, working to save a scientific group from goblins. I like the setting of the story, it’s really nice and tense seeing a story set so far underwater and in such a claustrophobic setting such as the submarine. You get a really good sense of dread as the Doctor and co are so hugely trapped. The story also brings the setting to life really well, it’s bleak but also beautiful, the sound design is quiet yet atmospheric and the descriptions of the bottom of the ocean was really nice to listen to. I think the villains are probably the weakest part of the story, they’re incredible 2 dimensional and forgettable, I just don’t feel like the characters are in any danger. I did like the descriptions of the creatures, such as the vampire squid. This story was released around the same time as Cold War in 2013 so it’s hard not to compare both stories with each other. Personally, I find the tv episode to be more tense while this one feels more atmospheric. The side characters in this one also feel a bit weaker compared to the TV episode, these characters feel a bit more dull to me. Something I really liked was how the story explored the various creatures in the story, we get to learn about a new race of squids and I found it all to be really interesting. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctoradventures #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #marytamm #unit #k9 #daleks #cybermen #zygons #axons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #romana

Gallifrey- Weapon of Choice The story sees Romana and Leela start to uncover a conspiracy that attempts to sabotage her actions as president. As this is the first story in the Gallifrey series, I feel like it does a good job at setting up the complex nature of the overall series. This story does a good job at setting up the conspiracy, the various different factors and races all scheming against each other as well as showing us the main players of the series. Romana is really good in the series, she’s now president of Gallifrey and much to the annoyance of the other Time Lord’s is doing something different, she’s opening the planet up to other races who want to learn. I like the idea that the various time traveling races are part of this uneasy alliance and that some force wants this alliance to end. Free Time is also an interesting idea, being this terrorist group made up of various different races who want to make sure that time travel can belong to everyone, while also discrediting Romana. Leela’s arc in the story is really interesting with her reeling over the death of Andred as well as her not fitting in with the other Time Lords. Something the story didn’t do well is the introduction of the new characters, there are just so many of them, that they don’t feel very unique together. The story also doesn’t explore them that well, as they all seem scheming and manipulative. However, characters like Braxiatel and Narvin are very interesting and cool characters in the future. 7/10 #doctorwho #spinoff #bigfinish #thedoctor #romana2 #leela #k9 #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #valeyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #braxiatel #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #narvin

Doctor Who- Urban Myths The story sees a group of Time Lord Assassins recount various events of the Doctor killing a bunch of people. I love the unique premise of the story with a group of people out to kill the Doctor and using a restaurant setting to set a trap for him. I like the reveal that the killers are Time Lords and somehow the Doctor has committed a crime big enough for them to try to assassinate him. I like the various twists with the story with Peri working at the restaurant, going undercover. I do think the pacing was far too quick and it would’ve been good to have explored this story more. The tone of the story, it’s really funny seeing the Time Lords try to keep a cover and pretend to be normal people in a restaurant. I like the layout of the story too with the CIA assassins telling their account of the Doctor’s crimes. It’s interesting seeing how they perceive the Doctor, seeing him as this murderous force. But it’s also pretty funny seeing the Doctor as this mass murderer with Peri cheering him on. The ending is also really funny with the Doctor basically ditching Peri in a restaurant where she’s forced to keep working. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #teganjovanka #nyssaoftraken #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #graceless #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #5thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #vislorturlough #seadevils

Doctor Who- Exotron The story sees the Doctor and Peri work to save a group of farmers from a deadly predator and stop giant robots from making the battle worse. I like the dynamic between Peri and the Doctor, this story does a pretty good job at showcasing the fun, chaotic energy the two have for each other. I really like how sarcastic the duo are to each other, allowing some nice comedy. We get some interesting ideas with the Exotron’s giving us a nice mystery aspect in who is behind these giant robots. The overall premise of the story is fine, it’s one of those very basic base under siege stories, where the Doctor and his companion are with a small group of people under fire from a monster. Where the story stands out however is the inclusion of the Exotrons, giant robots. They allow the audience to think about which threat is greater them or the other monsters. Personally, I find the side characters to be pretty dull and 2 dimensional. They all seem very simple and forgettable. I also find the villains to be really dull too, I feel like they don’t have much character or personality. I did like the twist where the hyena aliens aren’t the main villain and the humans are. 5/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #teganjovanka #nyssaoftraken #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #graceless #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #5thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #vislorturlough #seadevils

Doctor Who- The Judgment of Isskar The story sees the 5th Doctor begin his quest to find the Key to Time once more. I like the premise of the series with it being a sequel to the Key To Time arc. This arc feels different due to the mystery aspect, the inclusion of Abby and Zara and the Grace give off some more interesting ideas as the Wicked Sisters are themselves interesting and mysterious characters. I like how this story is more downscaled too with the Doctor only looking for 3 parts of the Key. Other than this plot, the overall story in this is really interesting, exploring a new period of history for the Ice Warriors, a time before they became warriors. I also like that even though they are the villains, it’s for good reasons as they think the humans killed on of their own. I like the Doctor’s dynamic with Abby/Amy, his new companion has the mindset of a child and it’s pretty cute seeing the two bond. The Doctor acts as a father figure for her, and is overprotective with her, to keep her out of trouble. I like how strong Amy/Abby is too, even though he’s naive and childish, she’s also really smart, having immense knowledge of the Key, the Doctor and the Grace. I like the way these Ice Warriors are presented, these ones aren’t as aggressive as normal so this story gives us a cool subversion. I just find it funny seeing the Ice Warriors, talking about markets and nice views. One thing, I really found the human side characters to be dull and unlikable, I think the way they’re written was fine but it just made the character annoying to listen too. Zara works really well as an antagonist, she’s fun and chaotic and I love her rivalry with Amy. Seeing the difference between them is really good too, especially if you know how far the sisters grow over the course of their journey. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #teganjovanka #nyssaoftraken #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #graceless #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #5thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #vislorturlough #seadevils

Doctor Who- Kiss of Death The story sees Turlough reunite with an old face as he’s brought into a quest to find an ancient treasure. The overall plot seems really interesting, we get a really unique location with a palace made of ice but we also get a great premise with the Doctor and co going on this quest to find a treasure and uncover the mystery being an ancient planet. The story is also very good for providing depth to Turlough a character who in my opinion was really dull on TV and even though he had some interesting arcs with the Black Guardian and his exit story, he still felt under explored. The story does a great job at exploring his past, such as introducing his past love, but we also get some more details on his backstory and his relationship with his old planet. The side characters are pretty basic and dull, I do like their human, grounded personalities and the way they talk about getting the big score was pretty fun as it gives them some complexity. However, I just feel these characters are quite dull at times and feel a bit too one dimensional and single noted. Some of the action sequences feel really exciting with the Doctor and co chasing after Turlough in a stolen ship, these moments feel so fast paced, something out of an action/sci fi movie. Some of the ideas in the story are a little dumb with the villains forcing Turlough and Deela to kiss in order to open a door. The sound design for the main villain, the Moras is awful, it sounds like someone with a mouth full of wet food whispering in my ear and I hate it. 6/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #teganjovanka #nyssaoftraken #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #5thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #vislorturlough #seadevils

Doctor Who Comic Strip Adaptations- The Star Beast The story sees the Doctor and friends work to stop the evil Wrarth Warriors from killing a furry little alien. In the run up to the 60th anniversary, I really wanted to cover this story and I think the Big Finish version does a really good job at adapting this 80’s comic story. I think this story has so much fun 80’s charm to is, it’s got the fun cringy nature of old comic books, the amazing references of horror films and the wacky, unique sci fi tone that makes it really stand out. The way all the new characters are written makes them all pretty likable and they really fit the overall tone of the story too. I love the idea behind the story, at first the story doesn’t seem like anything new, with deadly aliens hunting something down however, this story subverts all expectations and that’s what really makes it work. The Wrarth Warriors are decent villains, I really like their insectoid designs but their personalities are kinda simple. I love the twist behind them with the Warriors actually not being the villain but are actually a sort of police force. Meep is the highlight of the story with his over the top and ridiculous personality. I love the way he’s characterized as this pathetic, innocent fluffy creature sort of like Gizmo from Gremlins. But I love when he does a complete 180 with him turning into this sadistic insane mastermind. I like the reveal that he’s the big villain and his plan is pretty decent, taking over a whole town’s minds with deadly radiation. 8/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #kraal #unit #doctorwhocomics #daleks #cybermen #zygons #axons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #beepthemeep #doctorwhothestarbeast

Doctor Who Comic Strip Adaptations- The Iron Legion The story sees the Doctor work to stop an invasion of Romans in a world where their armies never fell. I like the uniqueness behind this plot, giving us a pretty interesting invasion story while also exploring ideas about alternate time lines. The idea behind a version of earth where Rome never fell was a really good sci fi idea and the story does a good job at showing how much of a threat the armies could be. The inclusion of Stockbridge works really well as a location too as it juxtaposes the huge scale of the story with the quiet village setting. I like the tense nature of the story with the Doctor arriving in the middle of the invasion. I love his light hearted humour as he interacts with all the scared and tense villagers, all he wants to do is buy sweets as everyone is under siege from robotic romans. I also really love how everyone reacts to the villains with the Doctor having this realisitc mix of surprise and genuine fascination. I think this story has a really good mix of comedy and seriousness. I like the variety of characters with all these new romans being surprised about the original Rome. I like the huge variety in characters from the spoilt young emperor to his cruel family. We also get some other characters, getting to look at all sides of it, from the people forced to take part in the arena to the people excited to see the slaves get killed. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #kraal #unit #doctorwhocomics #daleks #cybermen #zygons #axons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #beepthemeep #doctorwhothestarbeast

Unit- Time Heals The story sees the Brigadier come out of retirement after a series of missile thefts occur. This story works as a way to introduce a new Unit group, a bridge between classic Who and New Who version of the organisation. However, unlike the two groups from the show, this version of the group isn’t very interesting. I like the more energetic dynamic between them all that Classic Who didn’t have but they just never clicked with me. It would help if the new characters were developed a bit better, exploring their lives outside of the mission and getting to know them better. The tone of the story works really well, it’s this tense, action heavy thriller with some interesting political mystery aspects. The pacing of the story works pretty well, it’s not overly fast but it’s not at a snails pace too, for the first episode in the series it does a decent job at slowly setting up the mystery. I like the dark elements of the story too, unlike the TV series, this story allows itself to explore darker themes like terrorism and explore themes of extreme violence. The main plot of the story is interesting but overall the way the story is set up is pretty repetitive, with something bad happening, the team going to investigate but not finding anything, then moving along to the next incident. I like the underlying hints to the bigger picture with people thinking it was a terror attack as well as the growing threat of the secret team conducting these experiments. 6/10 #bigfinsh #doctorwho #unit #whovian #brigadierlethbridgestewart #davidtennant #nicholascourtney #katestewart #osgood #thedoctor #newwho #classicwho #spinoff #daleks #silurians #harrysullivan #cybermen #mikeyates #themaster #sergeantbenton #davros #sontarans #autons #thegreatintelligence #slitheen #weepingangles #icewarriors #zygons #jogrant #sarahjanesmith

Doctor Who- 1963: The Assassination Games The story sees the Doctor reunite with Counter Measures to stop an evil cult. I like the premise of the story, feeling sort of like a James Bond type story, exploring corruption in the UK government as well as exploring how foreign agents might try to start a fight between different countries. It’s also interesting exploring how countries decide to best protect themselves in the interest of peace. I like how this story feels more like a Third Doctor story than a 7th, with it being a pretty grounded location and feeling like a classic Doctor/Unit story but with Counter Measures instead. This feels like a pretty good and interesting political thriller, with tones of fast paced action scenes. However, for a 50th anniversary story, it feels sort of like a letdown as the story feels pretty simple. The inclusions of the Doctor and Ace felt really interesting, I like how they allow the story to focus more on Counter Measures than them. The duo pop up throughout the story but their role doesn’t seem overly forces as they’re dotted in. Seeing them appear in the background allowed the scenes to feel more interesting and allows you to constantly think what the Doctor and Ace are up to. The villains are pretty interesting, you can feel how deadly and powerful they are as they’ve already infiltrated the government. They’ve already enacted their plans and they’re well underway. Seeing how far in their plan and how manipulative they are makes them pretty interesting. The reveal of what Light is, is also quite cool, being this ancient intelligence wanting to take over Earth for a long time. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #countermeasures #review

Doctor Who- The Raincloud Man The story sees the Doctor and Charley involved in a deadly game of roulette. The plot feels really overstuffed with ideas. There are some genuinely interesting parts of the story with an alien accidentally giving out coins from the future catching the Doctor’s attention. There are also things that aren’t overly interesting like the two races at war. I like the idea of the time sensitive alien, needing pills to stop seeing the different time limes. I like his dynamic with Charley as all her paradoxical nature messes with his head. I love the setting, there’s just something really nice about seeing a classic Doctor in a modernish day setting. Seeing the Doctor and Charley sitting around in cafes, walking around 21st century Manchester streets and working with the people of this time is always such a fun treat. 6, Charley and DI Menzies are such a fun trio. The Tardis team in this story is really fun to see. Audio 6 is such a chaotic figure and every companion he’s with just works so well with him. I love the idea of him and Charley, making the companion feel more complex than she already is by having 6 try and figure out the mystery behind her. Menzies is a really likable character and it’s such a shame she’s not in more stories, I think she makes such a good addition to the crew. The tone of the story is really fun and enjoyable, the story doesn’t take itself too seriously and in this case, it works better like this. Everything seems fun from the Doctor and his dynamic with all the side characters to the silly voice and tone of the villains. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #sixthdoctor #colinbaker #charleypollard #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #peribrown #melbush

Doctor Who- The Whispering Forest The story sees the Doctor and co arrive in an alien forest where a group of humans are held under siege. The setting is pretty good, having this eery, fairy tale woodland planet, this is a pretty creative setting, taking what could be a boring location and giving it some tense atmosphere. The use of sound design works well in it’s favour, the whispering makes the location come alive and feel creepy. I like some of the ideas with this, continuing Nyssa’s arc with the Doctor and co finding another group of people infected by an alien disease. There was a pretty good twist involving the creatures that the villagers think are hunting them were actually medical droids looking to cure them. There are also some pretty interesting ideas like the ghosts, but these ideas don’t really make much sense and I think at times, these ideas are too far fetched. The side characters feel very cliché, seeing them as nothing special, just your regular scared villagers running from the monster. That being said, it doesn’t make them unlikable, it just makes them feel a little dull as there’s nothing really engaging with them. Personally, I think some of their dialogue feels pretty weak as well. Seeing them constantly surprised by the Doctor and co not being in the same predicament as them gets old after a while. Personally, I found the companions to be kinda dull in this. Turlough is the sort of character that never changes, his cowardice and weakness makes him really irritating and putting him with Nyssa, who wants to run towards the danger and help only highlights how weak Turlough is of a character. I do like that we get more scenes with just the Doctor and Tegan, I love how much of a chaotic duo they are. 5/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #teganjovanka #nyssaoftraken #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #5thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #vislorturlough #seadevils

Doctor Who- The War Doctor- The Heart of the Battle The final of the first War Doctor set sees the Doctor and co work to stop a Dalek weapon. This one does an interesting job at showing how the lines of who is good and who is evil are blurred. This one shows us a bigger picture of how a lot of the universe things the Time Lords are evil and the Daleks are good, while some think both sides are as bad as the other. There are some also interesting ideas like how some Time Lords want to avoid the war continuing and wanting to have peace. It’s interesting seeing how hopeful some people still are despite everything. I also like how this mindset is not the complete opposite to the Doctor, seeing him repulsed by this idea. The overall plot of this story is pretty exciting, seeing this one as a more fast paced, action heavy adventure seeing the Doctor working with a black ops team to stop a Dalek plan. Considering how fast paced and exciting the story is, there is also a nice level of comedy and enjoyment in this. The War Doctor, despite him refusing to be called the Doctor, is so much like him, talking through various dangers, joking around and genuinely acting silly which is such a refreshing thing to see for this incarnation. The Daleks aren’t the most entertaining villains in this, I much preferred how they were in the last episode. However, they’re still entertaining and manipulative and their plan is hilariously over the top, seeing them fire thousands of planets at Gallifrey. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thewardoctor #timewar #8thdoctor #thedoctor #timelord #gallifrey #johnhurt #tardis #ollistra #tardis #daleks #themaster #davros #cybermen #sontarans #icewarriors #silurians #autons #zygons #weepingangles #theeleven #rassilon #sonicscrewdriver #slitheen #judoon #ood #whovian #review

Doctor Who The War Doctor- The Thousand Worlds The story sees the Doctor go behind enemy lines to strike a blow to the Daleks. Something I really like about this set is the Doctor’s relationship with Rejoice. I think this Doctor, companion dynamic was really sweet, seeing the girl bring some more emotion and peace to his stern, sad life. I really liked how realistic her relationship with the Doctor was, seeing her heartbroken by the Doctor being taken by his people. This adds to a really interesting idea set up by this with various races finding it hard to determine who the real villain of the war is, as the Time Lords have done some pretty evil things too. There’s something really interesting seeing the Doctor as part of a black ops soldier. Seeing him complain and annoy everyone allowed him to feel like the Doctor, adding some fun to this otherwise bleak story. I like the Time Lords views of the Doctor, some of them mysticising the Doctor while others getting really irritated by him. We get some really unique ideas such as the Null Zone, being an area in space and time where no time travel can be possible. It’s a good idea as it hinders both the Daleks and Time Lords a bit, taking their greatest asset away. This also shows how scheming and brilliant the Daleks are, showing them as being able to set complex traps. The twist of the story was really good too, revealing that the Doctor is on the same planet as the first story but more in the future. The characterisation of the Time Lords was really interesting as the Doctor puts it, they’re becoming overly too similar to the Daleks as how much they march people of to war. Seeing the Doctor disgusted by his people was such an interesting idea and seeing how the Doctor and Veklin despise each other was such a unique dynamic. The Dalek’s plan has been done before, drilling into the core of planets to pilot is as a war ship. However, they go a little overboard with it which I like, using the planets to smash them into other planets. 9/10

8/3/2023, 9:52:34 PM

Doctor Who- The War Doctor- The Innocent The opening to this series sees the Daleks prepare to invade Gallifrey, but the Doctor is nowhere to be found. The story does a great job at setting up the overall tone and stakes for the series. We’re in the middle of the Time War, the stakes are higher than ever and starting the series with this huge battle was such a good idea. I like the overall story with the Doctor hiding away on a peaceful planet while his people surprisingly mourne his loss and celebrate him in some interesting unique scenes. But this shows how hypocritical the Time Lords are, as they all despise the Doctor and are then so quick to celebrate him. We get to explore what people would be like if they thought the Doctor was dead and it's amazing, seeing how bleak it is. Something I really liked was even though there’s this big battle going on, we actually take a step away from the battle, exploring what the Doctor is doing to avoid taking part. He’s not the Doctor, he doesn’t want to help but he knows if he does, then lots of people are gonna die. Seeing him try to stay away and learn that Time War is constantly following him was such a good idea showing how broken this Doctor is. John Hurt is brilliant, which is unsurprising. The way he presents the Doctor and brings him to life is brilliant. You can tell this is a man tired of fighting, a man who doesn’t care if he lives or dies. This is one of the darkest Doctors and Hurt brings him to life in a way no other actor does. Something I also like is how the story explores how people worship the Doctor, he’s a hero and people love him for it and we get to see how much of a tole that can take. CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS

Doctor Who- An Alien Werewolf in London The story sees the Doctor and Mags reunite with Ace in Camden. The mystery aspect works really well for the setting in this story. The use of Camden works really well to create a unique and lively locations while also making the mystery aspect of the story feel a bit more unique. The story also has a pretty fun tone too, seeing Ace story of create this heist, recruiting the Doctor to stop an alien, I like the fun energetic nature of the story making it stand out. I like the reveal that the villains are alien vampires, it’s nothing new to the series but seeing them interact with Mags, a werewolf makes the story feels quite exciting. However, there’s nothing really there that sets them apart from other vampires in the series. It’s pretty funny seeing everyone turn into these vampire creatures, who instead of doing normal vampire things, they just go to normal regular life. In my opinion the background music isn’t great, I think the various beats and techno music featured in the story makes it sound really weird and silly. There are various moments that should need background music but instead are quite and it makes the story feel awkward at times. I also think the accents and acting in the story could be a lot better, I feel like the side characters and sadly even Mags as a character don’t provide much emotion to the characters. I think the villains acting is really over the top and cringy at times, it’s hard to take them seriously as well as hearing the alien talking with them. I just find it hard to take these people as threats as all they do is moan and be sarcastic to one another. I also think the villains are really boring, at times it’s even hard to pin point who the main villain is. 6/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #mags #review

Unit- The Longest Night The story sees the Unit team deal with a bomb going off in central London. The story does a pretty good job at exploring how people can become disillusioned with the government and what lengths they’ll go to try and over throw them. This story takes political thriller to a new level as it focuses on how ICIS manipulate events to put themselves into power. Something I like is how the story is set up, being half news report, half action. I like how creative the writing is seeing the fear the villains bring to the UK and showing it in different levels and groups. I like the tense tone of the story too, you can feel how on edge and scared everyone is in these times and it’s even tenser as you don’t know who’s on what side. The action sequences work really well as they feel grounded and realistic, instead of having Sci Fi driven action, it’s more action orientated, with guns and police making it feel more exciting due to the realism. Some of the ideas explored in this story can be a bit too much such as political tensions towards certain religious groups, presenting them in a negative light and making it a little uncomfortable to listen too. It’s a shame we don’t get the full Unit team in this, as personally I feel like the characters aren’t that engaging or complex. They are however, likable and enjoyable to listen too as it’s interesting seeing how characters like Emily resist being like the villains. 8/10 #bigfinsh #doctorwho #unit #whovian #brigadierlethbridgestewart #davidtennant #nicholascourtney #katestewart #osgood #thedoctor #newwho #classicwho #spinoff #daleks #silurians #harrysullivan #cybermen #mikeyates #themaster #sergeantbenton #davros #sontarans #autons #thegreatintelligence #slitheen #weepingangles #icewarriors #zygons #jogrant #sarahjanesmith

Doctor Who- Justice of Jalxar The story sees the Doctor reunite with Jago and Litefoot to stop a supernatural vigilante. I like the layout of the story, seeing Doctor Who do a sort of Batman style story, exploring vigilante’s and detectives. I like the dark tone of the story too, exploring the mystery behind the killings while also having the fun nature of Jago and Litefoot. I feel like the story has a nice mixture of dark and light tones. I love the dynamic between the main cast, seeing the Doctor interact with Jago and Litefoot was really fun to listen too. I love the energy between them all, such as the Doctor’s giddiness to seeing his old friends. I also really like Jago’s dynamic with Romana as he tries to impress her. Romana is really fun in this, like how Leela interacts with Jago and Litefoot, Romana has her own way of surprising them with her unique personality. I also like how she reacts to everything, she’s so calm even in the face of danger. The setting is really good, I love how dark Victorian England is but I also live how colourful and lived it in. From the busy taverns to the dark and dreary back streets, I feel like this setting was depicted really well. The villain is ok, it’s a pretty creative idea being a police robot from the future trying to stop crime in the past. The idea is interesting and the imposing nature of the robot was pretty cool too. However, the overall characterisation of the villain seams a bit weak. 8/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctoradventures #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #jagoandlitefoot #unit #k9 #daleks #cybermen #zygons #axons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #romana

Doctor Who- The Chaos Pool The story sees the Doctor and Abby find the final part of the Key to Time. As the final of the Key 2 Time mini-series, it was bound to do something big and this story does a good job at providing a high staked, epic, blockbuster. We get loads of answers about where the Key to Time was created, the backstory of the Grace and the Guardians as well as a good conclusion for Abby and Zara. I like the surprising nature of the story to make it stand out a little more with the involvement of Lalla Ward, playing not just Romana but also her original character Princess Astra. I like how the story explores her after she was freed from the Key the first time. The reveal that Romana is the new 6th segment of the Key was really fascinating too. Her role in the story is really good too, making her a more complex character as she works to save her people from death. I like the Doctor and Abby (Amy’s) relationship. Abby is basically a new born so it’s really interesting seeing the Doctor act as a father figure for her, trying to teach her about life. There was a nice moment where Abby talks about if the Doctor is afraid to die and it’s a really quick but strong scene. Zara’s role in the story is pretty good, giving the story a body swapping plot too with Zara stealing Amy’s body, pretending to be her as well as giving us a more clear view on how different the sisters are. The villains aren’t bad, they just aren’t anything overly special or unique, one of the main villains are war like slug aliens at war with Astra’s people. Seeing the two forces battle was pretty good but these villains are really under developed. I also felt the ending felt a bit too rushed and farfetched, leaving the ending a bit under whelming. 7/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #fifthdoctor #peterdavison #thegraceless #romana #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #keytotime #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #lallaward #abbyandzara

Doctor Who Forty Five- The Word Lord The story sees the Doctor and co face the deadly Nobody No-One for the first time. The overall plot, at first glance, can feel pretty cliché, with the Doctor and co accused of a murder, leading to a conspiracy that threatens the human race, the inclusion of the peace talks is nothing unique either. However, the thing that makes the story stand out it the villain Nobody No-One, probably one of the most unique villains in the series, a villain that should’ve come back more. The way he controls words, lives inside them and uses their power makes him really stand out and the fact that he’s also sort of a mirror version of the Doctor is really interesting too. I like how it ties in with the overall theme with the story, seeing why 45 is so important. The side characters a re a little bit too basic for me, they are all far to serious and all way to straight to the point. I just didn’t find them that entertaining to listen to, saying that it’s a refreshing take seeing the Doctor found innocent so quickly, helping the fast paced nature of the story. 7/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #benedictcumberbatch #thewordlord

Doctor Who Forty Five- Casualties of War The story sees the Doctor and co face a man carrying a truth gun. The ideas behind this story are quite interesting such as the spy that can’t lie. The tie in with the Forge, seeing them as the power behind the weapon made the story feel a bit more interesting. However a story like this, especially how high staked and serious it was, as it explored Hex’s arc, Ace’s relationship with her mother and the coming of the Nobody No one. I felt like this story should’ve been longer than 20 minutes. The villains are fine, with Joey being a quite grounded character, he’s a down on his luck guy who’s found himself a weapon to make him stronger. He wants to make a name for himself but doesn’t do it the most moral way. The Forge are very simple villains, having them appear without Nimrod or any of the mystery that the “Project” stories had made them pretty average villains. Their motivations are decent though, trying to capture Joey and reclaim the weapon. Ace gets some really nice development seeing her meet her mother as a child. This arc continues from the Curse of Fenric but I feel does it equally as good, Sophie Aldred’s acting is brilliant, seeing her react to her mother, despite their complex history together, she still cares about her mother. This story also does a pretty exciting job at setting up Hex finding out the truth about his mother. 8/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #benedictcumberbatch #thewordlord

Doctor Who Forty Five- Order of Simplicity The story sees the Doctor and co having to face a virus that causes people to have an IQ of 45. The idea behind this is quite interesting and unique, I like how this plot ties in with the 45 arc, with the virus while also being part of the Viyran arc, giving us a nice easter egg. Professor Verryman was an interesting and complex character, he is a person trying to prove his intelligence, trying to show he’s the smartest around and it’s this cockiness that leads him to becoming dumb from the virus. The setting was pretty good, with it being set in a eery house in the middle of nowhere. We get a pretty decent horror element feeling like a haunted house but the explanation to everything sort of lets it down. Benedict Cumberbatch was so waisted in this one, this was such a let down considering how big the actor is now. His character doesn’t even get a name, he’s credited as Thing 2. A lot of the story is about exposition, it just doesn’t really work that well to make things tense, there isn’t much action as it’s basically the characters explaining things as they go on. I also feel like the story ends very quickly. 6/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #benedictcumberbatch #thewordlord

Doctor Who Forty Five- False Gods The story sees the Doctor and co venture through a lost Egyptian tomb. The mystery aspect works really well for this type of quick, fast paced story. The setting works really well for the tone of the story. An Egyptian tomb is a great idea for some imaginative story telling. Benedict Cumberbatch guest stars in this story, he plays a famous archaeologist and his interactions with the Doctor work really well. Cumberbatch makes for a likable if not sadly underdeveloped character, it’s a shame he didn’t do more Doctor Who. But I like the ideas this character presents as he plays the man who found Tutankhamun’s tomb, so we get to learn about a lesser known historical figure. I like the eery nature of the story, with the archaeologist crew being picked off one by one by what seems to be a pharaoh’s curse. I think it’s a pretty fun if not a cliched idea that makes the story feel more tense. There are some nice twists like one of the archologists being a lost Time Lord, I thought it was a really surprising twist, especially as she’s on the run from the other Time Lords. However, with all the other characters in the story, she doesn’t get much detail and backstory. 7/10 #doctorwho #bigfinish #thedoctor #seventhdoctor #sylvestermccoy #acemcshane #hexschofield #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #benedictcumberbatch #thewordlord

Doctor Who- The Devil’s Armada The story sees the Doctor and Leela investigate demons in a 17th century village. Overall the plot is pretty interesting, exploring a time of English history where people strongly believe in witches and demons. However, I feel like this sort of plot has been done a lot before. The previous story in the set seemed a bit more unique. The setting is really well made, it’s colourful and lively and the sound design makes the village by the sea feel really interesting, seeing all the villagers and seeing Leela react to everything felt really nice and warm. I like the tenseness of the story with the dark period of history where women are forced to take the witch trials where they are made to die. Seeing the village all paranoid, thinking that witches and demons are all around makes the story feel darker. A difference between this story and the Witchfinders is the Tom Bakers disgusted reaction to the villagers dunking an innocent woman was a lot more realisitc than Jodie’s. Baker’s acting is fantastic in this and his dynamic with Leela was brilliant as ever. The villains were pretty interesting, with the story giving another possible explanation for the devil in the form of an alien. The Vituperon were quite unique villains, being mischievous imp like aliens from a dimension that is literally hell. But I like how sinister and eery the leader of the creatures is, being less playful and more villainous. The side characters can feel really irritating due to their small minds. Seeing how quickly they over react is tense but it shows everyone as superstitious and simple minded. I like the reveal that aliens are manipulating their minds. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctoradventures #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #sonicscrewdriver #unit #philiphinchcliffe #daleks #cybermen #zygons #davros #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #louisejameson

Doctor Who- Destination Nerva The first episode in the 4th Doctor’s adventures sees him and Leela return to Nerva Beacon, in time for a deadly threat to humanity to be unleashed. The idea behind the story is pretty interesting, it’s quite similar to Arc in Space, with an alien parasite trying to feed on all the sleeping humans. However, this one does something interesting by incorporating the Victorian Era into the story, having people from that time period venture out into space. The mystery aspect of the story is pretty interesting seeing the Doctor and Leela investigate what is so deadly that it needed someone to send a distress call. The tone of the story is actually pretty creepy too, especially in the scenes before they get to Nerva. The eery sound design was done really well in creating a tense tone. I like the way Nerva is presented, this is way before Ark In Space, seeing the station still being built so it’s interesting learning more about the history of such an iconic location. This episode also allows classic 4th Doctor fans to really enjoy this story due to the use of nostalgia. The side characters aren’t that great, the villains are stereotypical old fashioned Victorian British Men, they don’t get the best development and aren’t overly unique. In fact this story shows them as extra stubborn seeing them act as the cause of all the trouble as they are infected by an alien virus. However, I do like how eery the infected are, trying to pass their virus through touch making this story feel like a pretty good base under siege. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #bigfinish #whovian #review #thedoctor #4thdoctoradventures #4thdoctor #tombaker #leela #themaster #timelord #tardis #kraal #unit #nervabeacon #daleks #cybermen #zygons #axons #autons #silurians #seadevils #icewarriors #sontarans #judoon #ood #weepingangles #sarahjanesmith #louisejameson

Doctor Who- The Abominable Snowman The story sees the Doctor try to unite with one of his old friends only to find them overrun with robot Yeti. I like the premise of the story, seeing the introduction of an iconic bad guy as well as further cementing the 2nd Doctor’s era for having the best base under siege stories. The tone of the story is really tense and the fact the setting feels so barren and deadly really helps sell the tone of the story. The pacing however feels really slow and dull at times, the story focuses heavily on atmosphere and when it does focus on action it feels slow. The ideas in the story are really fascinating too with the introduction of the Doctor’s old friend. I wish we had more of a backstory for his friend Padmasambhava as it’s always interesting seeing hints to the Doctor’s past. At least Big Finish explored the character in further detail later on. The Great Intelligence is a brilliant villain being this formless, telepathic entity makes it really stand out, even though the idea is quite simple. The way it controls people’s minds and manipulates the monks as well as commanding the Yeti really makes it a villain to watch out for. The Yeti are really good and simple villains, their design is rather basic but it really helps signify their animalistic natures. I love how ruthless they are, with ferocious strength and savage hunting skills. I also like how even though they aren’t overly fast creatures they still bring some huge amounts of tenseness. I wish new who used them in their Great Intelligence stories. 7/10 #doctorwho #classicwho #newwho #theabominablesnowman #seconddoctor #patricktroughton #victoriawaterfield #jaimiemccrimmon #tardis #daleks #cybermen #themaster #sontarans #yeti #icewarriors #davros #timelords #autons #zygons #silurians #whovian #review #thegreatintelligence #seadevils #weepingangles #judoon #ood #sonicscrewdriver #slitheen #bbc

Doctor Who- Evil of the Daleks The story sees the Doctor work to fight his old enemies as they scheme to create a new race of Daleks. I like the overall complexity with the plot, instead of showing the Daleks as invaders as they normally are presented, this story shows them as scientists and manipulators making them a really complex and deadly threat. The way they use time travel as well as genetic engineering works really well to signify their threat. This episode was meant to be the final appearance of the Daleks and this story acts as a really good swan song for them, introducing us to the ultimate leader of the Daleks, the deadly Emperor. Their plan to create new Daleks, designed to understand humans is really interesting too. The side characters are quite interesting, seeing people like Edward Waterfield and Theodore Maxtible. The two are quite different but are also quite interesting too, seeing how both of them react to working with the Daleks. Theo more willing to help the Daleks while Edward, while even though he does bad things, he’s only doing this to protect his daughter. The two characters are both complex and interesting to watch especially as the story progresses showing us their true motivations. The Doctor and Jaimie are really good in this, I’m glad they’re allowed a solo outing, letting them have their fun back and forth before the new companion is introduced. This story also serves as the introduction for Victoria, but this story sort of shows her in the damsel in distress role and even when she is introduced, she doesn’t really do much. The tone of the story is really good, it’s tense and there’s a level of eeriness to it which makes the story feel more entertaining to watch. The mystery aspect is really entertaining too, seeing the Doctor and Jaimie try and figure out who stole the Tardis. The Daleks are brutal as ever, acting as fantastic villains as ever and the later half on Skaro allows for some interesting action. 9/10

Gallifrey- Appropriation The story sees Gallifrey in need of a new president after the defeat of the Pandora entity. This episode acts as the beginning of an interesting new arc, seeing Romana rally to continue as president after being taken down by Pandora, this story brings the series back to its simple, political routes giving us an intriguing story line. I like how this series shows how treacherous every character is, as this episode really shows us that everyone is really out for themselves at the end of the day. After the war is over, all everyone wants is a seat of power. I like how all the side characters are portrayed, this story does a good job at exploring the political guile of everyone, showing how everyone tries to win people over, by either bribing, threatening or genuinely winning over some people. It shows how complex and intelligent these characters are as you never know what side they’re on. Darkel is a really interesting villain, considering how likable she was on the Doctor’s trial, her character does a complete 180 in her Gallifrey appearance. She turns into an unlikable, scheming, manipulative villain. But she also makes a brilliant villain and an excellent foil to Romana. One thing I don’t really like is that all the Time Lord characters are so similar, they all want the same thing, either to become president or to have Romana not become president. There isn’t much that sets all the villains apart and you could easily be confused in figuring out who is who. 8/10 #doctorwho #spinoff #bigfinish #thedoctor #romana2 #leela #k9 #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #valeyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #charlottepollard #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey #narvin

Doctor Who- Good As Gold The story sees the Doctor and Amy help and Olympic torch barer escape a Weeping Angel. The overall plot of this story doesn’t really make sense, how does a Weeping Angle chase someone from the Olympics without millions of people watching. How does the Doctor destroy the Angel with his Sonic? And how does it reform itself so easily? I feel like this story had a lot of holes in it and I can forgive it because it was written by school kids. I like the cringy nature of the story with the Angles plan to steal the way the Olympics bring people together. Doctor Who- P.S. The story sees an extra scene showing what happens when Brian Williams finds out what happened to Amy and Rory. This is a really sweet and heart-warming extra scene that was sadly never shot. But the way we do see it was really unique and sweet with it being in the form of a story board. The overall story of it was really sweet and emotional seeing Rory and Amy’s grandson tell Brian what happened. It’s really sad seeing Brian find out about his sons death but it’s warm and really emotional seeing him welcome Anthony as his grandson. Doctor Who- Pond Life The story sees the Doctor try to catch up with Amy and Rory on their free time. I like this story seeing what the trio do when they’re separated, some of these stories are really fun and interesting, like the Doctor going on these silly adventures and the Pond’s getting an Ood helper But I would’ve liked more from these story, these shorts are just way too quick and it would’ve been fun to have had a full mini episode too. I did like how this series takes a dark tone, leading into the Asylum of the Daleks with Amy and Rory getting divorced. Doctor Who The Sixth Doctor The Last Adventure- The Brink of Death The story sees the Doctor in a fight for his life as the Valeyard makes his move. I like the set up for this story, the whole build up to the Doctor’s final moments, it’s a tense story with an action heavy and fast pasted structure. But it also does a good job at setting up the 7th Doctor’s dark personality. An issue I had with the plot was that it borrows heavily with the Ultimate Foe, with the Valeyard using the Matrix to attack the Time Lords. I like the body swapping element to the story seeing the Valeyard replace the Doctor in the Matrix. It’s a pretty fun plot seeing the villain pretend to be the Doctor but still have that eery darkness to him that makes him such a dastardly villain. I like the twists in this story with the introduction of Genesta, a friend of the Doctor, a likable character that gives us some slight glimmer of hope in this dark story, who’s relationship with the Doctor is actually quite fun as you never really see the 6th Doctor work with the Time Lords. But when she’s revealed to be the Valeyard, it was a shocking and really interesting twist. The actual regeneration was fantastic, the box set did a great job at setting this up. The build up to this, with the Doctor sacrificing himself to erase the Valeyard from his mind. The Doctor’s final moments and that of the 7th Doctor’s first moments were brilliantly written and acted by the two actors and gave Colin Baker the justice he deserved. To conclude, this story was a tense and uniquely, epic and exciting finale with a great performance from Colin Baker and a brilliant villain. 9/10 #doctorwho #sixthdoctorthelastadventure #bigfinish #thedoctor #sixthdoctor #colinbaker #melbush #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #7thdoctor #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey

Doctor Who- The Sixth Doctor The Last Adventure- Stage Fright The story sees the Doctor and Flip, help Jago and Litefoot uncover a mystery behind a sinister play. Personally, I think this story was the highlight of the set. I love what this story does with the Valeyard, showing how obsessed he is with the Doctor, reinciting sinister versions of the Doctor’s regenerations. This story shows how sinister he is, manipulating various events and using a multitude of different people. He makes such a good maniacal villain in this, his machinations and mysteriousness works so well leading up to a fantastic reunion between him and the Doctor. I like the way this story is set up with us seeing the Valeyard act as a director, using actors as stand ins for the Doctor’s companions while the villain plays the Doctor. I like each version of the regenerations, seeing it played out more sinisterly. I just think the plot is really unique and creative and allows from some creative scenes. I love the dynamic between Jago, Litefoot and the main cast, the whole group is really fun together. Jago and Litefoot are such a fun duo, along with Ellie and the trio are hilarious and so likable. Adding the Doctor and Flip and we’re in for such a good time. I love how instantly they all get along and the positive energy between them all is brilliant. I think the Valeyard’s plan is quite convoluted, with the villain trying to steal the Doctor’s and various peoples emotional energy by getting them to act in a play which powers a deadly machine. I just feel like it’s too complicated and confusing. To conclude, this story was a really tense and really engaging one with a unique plot and the big meeting between the Doctor and Valeyard was just as good as expected. 9/10 #doctorwho #sixthdoctorthelastadventure #bigfinish #thedoctor #sixthdoctor #colinbaker #Jagoandlitefoot #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #thevaleyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #charlottepollard #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey

Doctor Who- The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure- The Red House The story sees the Doctor and Charley arrive on an island full of werewolves. I like the way this series is going but, I think I prefer the first part to this. I like the setting of the story, the whole mysterious island is really eery and tense but also gives us some nice horror elements with a unique take on Werewolves. It’s interesting seeing this take on an iconic monster being a more civilized race but turn into feral humans in the day. It’s an interesting gimmick but can feel quite silly at times. I like the Doctor and Charley’s relationship, the duo are really fun together and their banter and sarcasm towards each other makes them really fun to watch. I also like the complexity between the two with Charley trying to keep her real identity hidden from the Doctor. The ideas in this story are quite interesting too, with the change between werewolf and human is illegal and anyone who turns is hunted by werewolf police. The Red House is an interesting idea too, being a cruel place where a mad scientist works to cure the werewolves. I like the Valreyard’s role in this, I think it’s quite clever seeing him manipulate things from behind the scenes while also having a prominent role in the main story. The way he disguises himself makes his a really sneaky and interesting villain. I also like how cruel his is, showing him allow for Charley’s torture as well as threaten to tell the Doctor her secret. We also get to see him manipulative side even more as he tricks Charley into thinking he’s on their side. I would’ve liked some backstory for this planet, such as finding out why the change is illegal. I feel like a story exploring the history of the place would’ve been interesting. I also feel like the various werewolf characters are a little bit 2-dimensional, with the werewolves being cruel sadists and the humans wanting to rebel. To conclude, this story was unique, entertaining and tense but the villain was pretty underwhelming. The Valeyard however is great as always. 7/10

Doctor Who the Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure- End of the Line The first story in this high staked set sees the Doctor and Constance lost in a train tunnel that seems really abnormal. This is a pretty good start to this special series. This is an interesting story to start off with, acting more as a once off story that hints to the main story. It’s not entirely a bad thing but it starts the story off on a tense note seeing an interestingly unique and creepy story. I really like the setting in the story, it’s so simple yet the way its established is really good and eerily. I like the new take on this setting giving us a unique idea that is explored quite well in the story but I feel like it should’ve been brought up again as it’s so important to the universe. The ideas are all really clever too, with the introduction of the Reality Nexus a gateway to different dimensions. I think it’s a really clever idea that each track is a different universe. The ending was really good too, setting the seeds for a tense final confrontation. I like the slow build up to this story, it relies more on atmosphere rather than action which I think is a great start to a box set. I like how the mystery unwinds with the Doctor and co slowly finding out more and the reveal as to who’s behind it was brilliant. The side characters are all quite interesting from the devoted and stern conductor, to the fun and friendly Keith Potter. I like how they’re all involved in the mystery, helping the Doctor uncover the mystery while also reacting in pretty realistic and well-acted ways. To conclude, this story was a tense and atmospheric adventure, giving us a good mystery and a slow build up to a cool reveal. 8/10 #doctorwho #sixthdoctorthelastadventure #bigfinish #thedoctor #sixthdoctor #colinbaker #constanceclarke #therani #regeneration #tardis #themaster #timelord #valeyard #daleks #cybermen #sontarans #davros #silurian #icewarriors #autons #slitheen #acemcshane #whovian #review #weepingangles #judoon #ood #seadevil #gallifrey

Doctor Who- Closing Time The story sees the Doctor reunite with Craig to stop a cyber invasion. The penultimate story of series 6 is a mixed bag for some people. For people who don’t like James Corden, this’ll be the worst thing in the world. I for one don’t mind him, he’s not overly funny but at times I can chuckle at him. Craig and the Doctor’s relationship is portrayed quite well and the weird romantic dynamic between them was quite funny. I did like how Craig was more action orientated in this, helping the Doctor fight the Cybermen. One thing I did hate was how he stopped the Cybermen with love. I hate that cheap ending even though his arc at becoming a better dad was good. The Doctor is portrayed fine, he’s fun but considering his death is coming, it feels more like an afterthought, it gets mentioned a couple times but doesn’t do anything for the story. I like his role in this, going undercover as it allows for some fun moments. The Cybermen are fine, the don’t really have much character in this, I did like their design being all broken and we even get some creepy moments with them but overall, the aren’t anything special. The Cybermat was a fun return though, the design was simple and cute but the teeth were a cool addition, I wish it actually got to play a part in stopping the Cybermen but it was a nice red herring. There are some really nice moments in this that aren’t even part of the main episode such as the cameo of Amy and Rory which as a touching and sweet moment and the ending which felt really creepy and epic, seeing River finally don her space suit. The side characters were fine, I like their dynamic with the Doctor allowing for some fun moments but the constant bereavement of Craig got really boring fast. I did however like the gag with Val thinking the Doctor and Craig were a couple. To conclude, this story was fun but the story was too simple, the villains were underwhelming and at times the comedy didn’t stick. 6/10

Doctor Who- The Rebel Flesh The story sees the Doctor and co land in a Welsh castle only to find the mining staff’s gangers have gone wild. I really enjoyed this story. I like the setting of the story, the monastery looks really well detailed and I love the mixture of ancient architecture with modern technology. I think the setting also gives the audience a nice level of claustrophobia really helping the tone too. I like the tense tone of the story, it’s dark and eery and at times gruesome with some pretty good body horror element which really sell the tone of the story. I like the plot of this, with it exploring the moral and ethical ramifications of cloning. I think it’s a pretty well thought out and complex issue. I also like how this story blurs the lines of who is the real monsters with both sides thinking the other shouldn’t be allowed to live. The Gangers are pretty good characters, I love their gross flesh designs, I think they work really well. I also like how they’re characterised, at first they don’t even know they’re Flesh and when the start to fight back it’s really engaging and well written. Cleaves and Jennifer are portrayed really well and both give off really engaging points to why they should live. I like how similar and different they are, with the two wanting the same thing but through different means. Cleaves wants to live in peace while Jennifer wants war and I think it’s an interesting plot seeing the two play out. I wish the other 3 got more to do in the story, Jimmy gets a bit of development due to his backstory with is son but the others don’t get any making them 2 dimensional characters. I think Rory is really out of character, I think he treats Amy really poorly with his weird obsession with Jennifer. This arc comes from nowhere and is so weird for Rory considering he would do anything for Amy. At times the CGI was a little questionable with Jennifer extending her neck out to chase Rory. It looked a little weird and let the episode down slightly. To conclude, a tense and uniquely entertaining story with an interesting complex villain. 8/10

Doctor Who Redacted- ANGELS The series continues with the team investigated a possible cause for the disappearances. The Weeping Angels. So far, this series has been consistently entertaining and exciting. I like the mystery aspect of the story with Cleo learning more about the disappearances. I like how this story continues the trend of exploring old episodes, this time exploring Blink. I also like the small addition to the disappearing people arc, with Jordan sending messages to Cleo from wherever he is. I like the horror elements to the story too with it covering the Weeping Angels and how they might be behind it. It’s a clever idea that brings an iconic villain to the series while also keeping the horror tone consistent. I also like the reveal that whatever’s behind the disappearances is scaring the Angels. There are some really well written tense moments where Abby is in a graveyard being followed by a mysterious creature. You’d think Cleo would be a bit more unnerved about her brother disappearing. They don’t really react to it and make out it’s just another day. I also think the story should’ve covered the disappearance of Queen Victoria more. I would’ve liked to have known how they know about the Angels. It’s an interesting idea having the events be public knowledge but I’d like to know how they found out. Abby is written really well, she brings a creepy aspect to the story telling us about the Angels in a way a horror writer would. I also like how it explores her relationship with the others, who are worried that all these interviews are gonna put her in danger. I like how they explore Larry Nightingale’s character, exploring his life after the events of Blink and the Weeping Angel phone game. I like how tragic his character is with his wife being taken by the Angels and then he’s sent to the 20’s. To conclude, this episode is a great continuation, the tenseness and mystery is ramped up and the main cast is as likable as ever. 9/10

Unit- The Wasting The final of the Unit series sees the team fight against the ICIS organisation as they work to frame Unit for a chemical incident. This is a pretty strong final. I like the tense nature of the story with the whole world being under threat. In today’s climate, this story is also a bit more realistic with the world under attack from a fast spreading disease. I like how this turns quite action heavy with the story turning into a zombie invasion. I like the directions the story takes, with the Brigadier sort of coming out of retirement and commanding the troops once more to fight against the enemy. The acting is really good, Nicholas Courtney brings a calm sense to an older Brigadier while David Tennant does a great job as the angry, over the top Colonel Wood. Tennant does a really good job as this character, I love how different he is to the Doctor, with the Colonel easily angered and at times antagonistic. I like how the Brigadier is sort of like a mentor for Colonel Chaudhry helping encourage her. Each of the characters are written very well and portrayed 3-dimensionally. I like how the virus is portrayed, I think it makes a really good threat. I like how the Unit team slowly find out more about the virus and I love the detailed descriptions of how it effects and changes people. It’s imagery is really well written and it’s entertainingly brutal. ICIS isn’t a great villain, they are quite bland and simple being an opposite version of Unit which doesn’t really mean a great villain. I also think the twist the Colonel Wood being part of the organisation was pretty obvious as he comes across a villain already before the reveal. Their motivations aren’t that great either, with the just wanting to kill all aliens. I think the pacing of the story comes across quite slow. For a finally, you would think it’d be more fast paced and action heavy. This story focuses more on Unit trying to peacefully contain the situation rather than fight it. I quite like this plot point seeing the Unit team try to handle a huge situation allowing it to become a bit more tense. To conclude, a tense but entertaining story with good writing but a weak villain. 8/10
