A very long loaf of borzoi, resting on a bright and misty day— only somewhat scrungled from her brief outing. . Eris has a charming tendency which I have only somewhat recently noticed. If I am resting in the sitting room, she will come lay down in the room with me; not necessarily facing me or elsewise paying me any mind, but in the room with me. If I am instead resting and writing under the skylights of our little art nook, she will make herself comfortable upon the tiles and once more pretend to pay me no mind. . I think that this kind of care is so very sweet of her, that she should feel such a want to be near that she places herself within our orbit even when we are not ourselves the center of her attention. . I waited for a while outside of his kennel, letting him get used to me, before leashing him and taking him outside. He was fearful of being near me and flinched when I raised my hand, so I can tell that he will need a patient family who is willing to let him come to them and not force interactions before he’s ready. Solo isn’t jumpy and takes treats very gently from my hand. He appreciated the few treats that I tossed in the grass for him to sniff out, but when I tried to toss a treat directly to him, he ducked as if the treat coming toward his face was scary. It seems that poor Solo hasn’t had many treats thrown his way and might have had some other bad experiences that led him to distrust sudden movements or hands coming near his face or body. As always with fearful dogs, I gave him the space to do whatever it was that helped him relax and he chose to sniff around in the tall grass near the treelike. It was there that he relaxed enough to use the bathroom, in nature. Other volunteers report that Solo was happy to see another dog in the nearby run and that he might gain confidence if he had a canine companion in his future home. Solo would appreciate more trips outside in nature and fewer scary noises in the shelter and a family in which he can learn to trust people again slowly, on his own time.

Oh my goodness. Sasha is an actual baby doll. As the caretaker said when I put her back in her kennel, she is “nothing but sweetness”. It’s true, she not only is stunningly beautiful blue brindle in a petite package, but she also has the personality to match her good looks. Sasha is calm in her kennel and easy to leash up. She uses the bathroom shortly after going outside and might have been previously housetrained. She doesn’t pull much at all on the leash when walking and prefers to stay close to her handler. We saw some wild geese in the field when we were walking and Sasha clearly noticed them but also didn’t pull toward them or bark at them. When we took a break from walking and sat in the shade, she crawled in to my lap and put her paws on my shoulders and gave me gentle kisses. Sasha isn’t jumpy or mouthy and takes treats gently so I think she could do well in a home with dog savvy children, assuming appropriate parental supervision. Everything about her made me want to scoop her up and bring her home, but I can’t, so I’ll just tell you, person who is reading this, go meet her and bring her home and you will be the happiest human alive.
Mr. Paws (A547121) is a 1yr and 1mo old, 41lbs, fawn and white, “American Bullldog Mix”. Mr. Paws was found as a stray and came to the Prince George’s County Animal shelter (3750 Brown Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20770) on 4/19/2024. Mr. Paws is currently an intact male. If you are interested in meeting Mr. Paws, go visit him today at the Prince George’s County Animal Shelter! Mr. Paws wins the award for most appropriately adorable name! He is an absolutely precious petite boy, who has very distinct coloring, including two pink patches on his otherwise black nose. He’s been given a “bow tie” collar, which suits him perfectly because it’s both festive and pretty. Mr. Paws knows “sit” and “wait” cues on command. He wasn’t interested in playing with the toy and didn’t pay any attention to the dog in the adjacent kennel. He was exclusively focused on me and the treats that I was giving him! Mr. Paws can be jumpy when he wants attention, so he might not be ideal for homes with very young children. He is very food motivated so I imagine he’d be easy to train to keep all four feet on the floor once he’s getting regular attention and exercise in a home of his own! Mr. Paws pulls a little on the leash but pays lots of attention to his handler so he should be easy to leash train in a future home.

Like Kujo was someone’s dog, who probably lived in a house and probably is familiar with leash walks and going potty outside, and all of the good boy things! Kujo is calm in his kennel and easy to leash up, because he knows what comes next - a walk! He uses the bathroom shortly after going outside and as the sign on his kennel says, “he is housetrained”. He walks well on the leash and pays attention to his handler during the leash walk. Kujo seems like he would fit into almost any family and isn’t jumpy, mouthy and wasn’t excessively fearful. I think he could live in a home with dog savvy children assuming appropriate parental supervision. Go meet Kujo! Kujo that I am now calling Henry… because that’s what seems to suit him better.

He seems younger than the age that they’ve listed him as, but he also might be more mature and confident in a home setting, outside of the scary shelter. He’s shy in his kennel, but not barky, just hesitant about the big scary world around him. He isn’t shy at all with new people though, and he was happy to see me and greeted me with wiggly body language and a full grin. He wasn’t interested in a walk, just hanging out with me and cuddles and treats. King got to meet two visitors who were coming in to look for a dog to adopt, and he wasn’t shy with them either, he was happy to get pets and took treats gently from them. Unfortunately King can’t be adopted by residents of PG County, so all of his wiggles were wasted on his new friends and I had to take him back to his kennel. I’m a big fan of ironic names for dogs, like teensy dogs named “spike” or big dogs named “tiny”, but this name has to take the cake for biggest mismatch. Hammer is a friendly, mild-mannered love bug of a dog. He’s easy to leash up in his kennel and he is happy to go outside as he’s clearly been holding it for a while. His kennel is super clean and he uses the bathroom multiple times in a row, making me think he’s been housetrained. He walks well on the leash with hardly any pulling. Hammer isn’t interested in a long walk or playtime with a toy, instead he prefers to snuggle with me as I bend down to pet him and then wiggle on his back in the grass. He takes treats gently and gives kisses even more gently. Hammer allows me to pet him all over and touch his ears, look at his teeth, touch his paws and his tail. It was a hot day, and he showed me that he preferred to hang out in the shade and relax over any vigorous activity. He’s probably a medium energy dog in more moderate weather and would be happy with a couple of leash walks a day and some cuddle time with his person! Hammer wasn’t jumpy or mouthy during our interaction together and based on his demeanor, I think that he could do well in a home with dog savvy children and appropriate parental supervision of interactions with kids.

Clyde was excited to head outside and knew that me coming toward him with a leash meant he’d get a chance to leave his kennel! He used the bathroom shortly after going outside and might have been previously housetrained. Clyde enjoyed catching up on the sniffs in the tall grasses and checking out the smells from where other dogs had visited. He also was happy to take treats (very gently!) from me and curl up in my lap when I sat down. He put his paws on my shoulders while I was sitting and gave me a “hug” and then rolled on his back in the grass next to me and asked for belly rubs. Clyde pulls on the leash as you walk him, but less so the longer that you are out. I think that with regular walks and a more routine bathroom schedule, he’ll easily learn a loose leash walk with his new family. Clyde met some visitors who were looking for their next dog and he happily accepted pets from them and wasn’t at all shy. He politely took a treat from them. Clyde wasn’t jumpy or mouthy and his manner of taking treats gently makes me think that he could do well in a household with dog savvy children and appropriate parental supervision of interactions with kids. a soggy (air swimmy) loaf 💦🍞 one thing i wish we did more when loaf was a lil guy, was to give him more swimming opportunities. of course, his first few months with us were early 2020 so most things were closed. nowadays, loaf really enjoys wading in the water but once it gets to the point where his shoulders touch, he opts to be carried 🥹😂 but that’s okay loaf. we know you prefer to be a toasty loaf more so than a soggy wet loaf 🍞😂 how about you? do you loooove swimming? or is water lava?
