Let's talk about the importance of feet upkeep! The most important ones, as we know, are the tootsies! Frequent nail trimming (every 1-4 weeks) keeps your pups' nails short so their feet keep their necessary structure. Splaying of the feet, due to overgrown nails, can cause not only foot pain but also shoulder, back, and hip pain. Just as the same for us! The second one is shaving the paw pads, especially on our older/senior pups. Our pups' pads should be shaved short to help with giving traction, which also helps to keep sap, matting, and other potential irritants. Trimming the actual foot is not only to keep those grinch feet at bay, but it helps to keep the excess hair from matting up in between the toes, giving you a clear view of your pups' feet. This is especially helpful in our area with foxtail season approaching! Those little seeds can get stuck in between toes, which can turn into a gnarly foreign body. And last but not least, applying paw balm! Ellie & Maggie are housemates, Ellie is a sweet old gal and Maggie is a wild young pup. Both super great by nature, both super spoiled by people. Their only real issue? They don’t LISTEN without treats. The first day was like catching wild rabbits as they joyfully jumped and ran and crossed tangled leashes, barking at everything and demanding treats and affection. Different from the typical more serious problems like biting, fighting & reacting. Now we see the same bouncy happy dogs but with manners, better listening skills and following commands without the treat bag. Our friends at @stumptownstrays have an awesome puppy looking for a home! Meet Coal! He is a 38 pound 5 month old puppy! Coal is a sweet puppy who’s looking for a home to grow up in and Stumptown is working hard to find him one! Coal was found stray and injured. His vet team suspects that he was run over by a car since Coal sustained multiple pelvic and hip fractures. It’s been weeks, and two surgeries later, Coal is finally all healed! He still needs to build some muscle, but he can now walk and run just like any other puppy. Coal has had plenty of crate training (due to his surgery, Coal had to be crated often) and is potty trained as well. His foster family describes him as very friendly and affectionate. Coal loves all people and has been fostered with kids. We think he would be fine in a family with kids over 3; he is a bit mouthy still just because he’s a puppy. Coal is learning how to walk on a leash and still needs to learn regular dog things like stay, come, leave it. He is a baby and is eager to please, so he should be fun to train. Coal is excited to meet other dogs and pulls toward them on leash, but has been good with the dogs that he’s met. He’s also good with cats! Coal is current on his flea and heartworm preventatives, is microchipped and vaccinated. Stumptown thinks Coal will be about 55 pounds fully grown, but this is an educated guess. Little Cashew joined us for his second hike today and he did amazing!! 😍👏🏼 We worked on helping him slow down his brain and move with the pack, which always takes a little time at first and especially with siblings (he and Marcel have their own brotherly dynamic 😂), but by the end we were all moving together in one cohesive energy and it felt so good! 😌✨🌿 Yayyyyy Cashew!!!
