My buddy Duncan’s 2009 BMW K1300S is such a complicated technological beast that we have been loathe to do anything but the simplest maintenance tasks on our own. Then again we felt the same way about my 1992 K100RS which was a technological beast in it’s own day and we recently finished rebuilding that bike successfully. The K1300S has a much more involved ABS system and a common failure is that the “Pressure Regulator” fails. BMW wants something like $4000 to replace it. There’s an outfit that offers a rebuilding service for a fraction of the cost but it involves removing the unit which is buried deep in the bike. They also require that one pulls codes from the ABS computer to identify the fault. It’s an intimidating job at first but as is the case with most efforts where one is embarking into the unknown take it one careful step at a time. Historically when we do a given project for the first time it involves mistakes and long delays. To the surprise of both of us we got the thing out in a single afternoon. Also upgraded the upper/lower PCV hoses with ECS Tuning silicone ones, and put some fresh oil in her. Hello, I’m the face behind the account here. My name is Beck, I’m a 4th generation Idahoan. I was born and raised here in the great state of Idaho and have been enjoying Idaho’s backcountry since before I could walk. I’m the shop manager here at backcountry garage and in charge of keeping the shop clean and running smoothly. I currently have an 2012 Tacoma with 240k+ miles and a 2009 Bmw f800gs with 30k+ miles. I’ve maintained the Tacoma since new and purchased the bike in 2023. I previously have worked in the towing industry and as a shop tech but have moved to the easy life of hauling dirt. Wrenching is second nature to me and I couldn’t imagine life without crawling underneath a rig. My pup Maverick never is left behind as he joins me to work almost every day and is happy to greet new people. Our shop is our personal space to work on projects and our rigs to keep them running well, with the occasional modification when the wallet allows. Our specialty is 4wd vehicles but we will work on anything with or without 4 wheels and a motor.
