Point Cabrillo Lighthouse ๐Mendocino, California Point Cabrillo Lighthouse is located between the towns of Fort Bragg and Mendocino, on the North Coast of California, about three hours north of the San Francisco Bay Area. The lighthouse continues to shine as a Federal Aid to Navigation under the jurisdiction of the US Coast Guard, and the park is open to the public every day from sunrise til sunset. Last week our project โWash Your Words: The Langdale Library and Laundry Roomโ in Blackpool won a top award at the Educate North Awards in the category Sustainable Green Initiative. โWash Your Wordsโ is an exemplar of live action research that rethinks and proposes a new civic typology, empowering the community through an active participation in the sustainable construction of place. The project is a new library and laundry room which has been co-produced, co-designed and co-built with people from the community. It connects a marginalised neighbourhood with the skills and resources available in an academic setting, fostering knowledge transfer and community impact. The project was managed and delivered by UCLan academics Lee Ivett @_baxendale , Head of @gbia_architecture_uclan , and lecturer Ecaterina Stefanescu @eca_stefa with arts organisation @leftcoastuk , working with Blackpool Council and Blackpool Coastal Housing. The award recognised the social sustainability aspect, as well as the way it is used as a live-build case study in our teaching and research outputs. The only thing I donโt like about running while the child is riding his bike, is his tendency to stop very suddenly right in front of me, usually on the narrowest part of the trail. Otherwise itโs been great and I highly recommend it
