Tana had defended his title match contract at the end of 2018, while Omega kept hold of his crown to reach this point, a dream match that didn’t happen nearly enough during this period of NJPW’s history. However, despite the display both of these men put on, with The Ace knowing how deadly the One-Winged Angel on top of that, the result may have felt a tad predictable due to the announcement of All Elite Wrestling forming a few days earlier. #japanuary2021 Day 31: Places you most want to go First of all, thanks to @cakeswithfaces again for creating this challenge. Was fun doing this. Anyways this last one is the trilogy ender of my "Recommend an Experience" and "Magical Moments" post. Obviously there's a lot of new places I'd like yo visit, places to revisit and places I'd planned to see in Japan that I hadn't gotten to. But since we're sharing photos from our trips, heres a place I've seen from the outside but wish to experience the atmosphere of. This is the mecca of Japanese puroresu; Korakuen Hall! It's right next to the Tokyo Dome and houses some of the most iconic moments of pro wrestling in Japan besides the Nippon Budokan (another place on the bucket list). The reason I took the leap of finally seriously taking a trip to Japan, a dream of mine for so long was because I was beginning to deeply fall in love with pro wrestling particularly NJPW and Japanese Puro. And regardless of anything, I'm glad I indulged myself when I could. For that reason I took the trip in winter to attend Wrestle Kingdom 13, NJPWs biggest show of the year. Hilariously that isn't the magical moment, though it was a magical part of the night. The moment came after the show when I took a train back to my capsule hotel and decided despite exhaustion to drop off at a further station and walk to reflect on the night of wonder. I then came across a Sushi restaurant and hungry enough dropped in. On my head was my Los Ingobernables de Japon cap (pic 2; LiJ is a group of wrestlers in NJPW led by my favourite Tetsuya Naito) To my shock, the chef at the counter was filled with excitement at seeing me thanks to the cap. He was curious to know if Naito had won his match at the Tokyo Dome and leapt with joy when I told him, he had (pic 3). He rushed out from the kitchen side to the counter to show me all the Naito/LiJ merch that covered every wall of his house. He was mad with excitement and I couldn't help but smile. With my limited Japanese, his limited English and gestures full of heart we excitedly discussed puro and our love for Naito/LiJ. When I left, he was having a smoke outside. Much like Naito does, I raised my cap to him and did Naito's signature taunt while saying 'Adios!' leaving him in a hearty chuckle. I'm weirdly glad that in the rush of the moment, I never took a pic with him. It leaves the moment as a surreal dream, much like that night and my whole trip. But what it does, is remind me of the power of Puro; of an art form such as that which can connect two people so further apart and bring them close. It's magical.

#japanuary2021 Day 23: Recommend a Place/Experience So this is going to be part of a loosely connected trilogy with a few posts later next week. This the first part is me recommending both an experience and/or a place. And that place is the Tokyo Dome and the experience being a Puroresu (Pro Wrestling show) in my case Wrestle Kingdom 13 Now I know wrestling is a niche fandom but it's quite an experience particularly live. I honestly believe nothing matches the storytelling uniqueness and maybe sometimes even prowess of pro-wrestling. It is the marriage of combat sports, live theatre, cinema, cirque du soleil. And for me nothing beats the intensity and immersive authenticity of Japanese Puroresu, it's own unique form especially with thousands of roaring/singing thunderously clapping fans. It's worth it especially NJPW's premiere Jan 4th(now also 5th) show; Wrestle Kingdom But if not wrestling, maybe a concert (if they have those) or even a baseball game (I can imagine) would be a wild experience at the Dome. It's a majestic structure and a sight to behold both inside and out. With Wrestle Kingdom 15 on the horizon, I wanted to share this custom Mattel Elite @willospreay that I’ve made based on his match at WK 13. The attire is accurate to that worn during the bout, the hair style and colour is based on a look seen later that year. Ospreay faced Kota Ibushi in a hard-hitting affair that saw Will capture the NEVER Openweight Championship for the first time; becoming the first Brit and only the second non-American wrestler to hold the title. The base headcast used was the @tsm_customs_ X @nicks_custom_toys collaboration with some modifications made. WIP photos will be shared to my story shortly and saved in highlights for reference. #japanuary2021 Day 1: What You Miss Another year, another distant fond memory Japan becomes in my heart. I miss that wonderful place so I'm thankful for @cakeswithfaces Japanuary challenge once again. But what do I specifically miss? Can I say everything 😂 Honestly if I think about it, I miss the air of the place; I realized once I've been home that I could really breathe there. I miss the serenity and spirituality. More than anything I miss the people. The people that I had chance encounters with. The castle guide who entertained and educated. The sushi chef who much like me was a wrestling and Naito fan. The country singer and his ardent drunk fan. The people I captured on the edges of my frame too. The woman praying at the Hiroshima A Bomb dome. The father sharing his faith with his son in Sensoji. Or this photo, the haunting calm in the ruins around Hiroshima Castle and if you look closely, at the edges an older couple enjoying their peaceful lunch. From those I met, to those I saw, whose presence I felt and even some I might have bothered. I miss the people.
