Today would have been my grandma's (dad's mum) 100th birthday. She passed away in 2014 a month before her 90th birthday. Dover in Kent was where she was born and raised and was a place she loved. So much so that my dad, auntie and uncle scattered her ashes on the White Cliffs. This photo's from my first proper visit, in 2020, having only travelled through the town before to catch the ferry to France. So a visit to the cliffs was top of my list of things to do there and it was like being with grandma again. Mum and dad (in the photo with me) joined me for this part of my stay in Dover and it was important to share this walk along the cliffs with them. I will definitely be visiting Dover and the cliffs again, as it is such an important place to my family. Many people only think of it as a port, but there is so much more to the town, like the castle, cliffs and countryside, that I really think it makes a great day out or weekend away and encourage anyone to give it a go! Clumber Park was full of surprises. Not your regular park at all. A carpet of daisies that looked as if it snowed. Lime tree avenue. Swans, ducks and other birds, not too bothered by the humans. Gorgeous walled kitchen garden and beautiful views. Clumber Park was once part of the Duke of Newcastle country estate. The house, ravished by fires and built for a different, more lavish era, was taken down in 1938, but you can still see glimpses of it throughout. Spanning across 3800 acres, Clumber Park can take a whole day to explore. And there is plenty of space for a picnic.
