Expecting a baby in 2023? Read below for all of the information you need to know in order to plan and book your maternity and newborn session. Maternity sessions take place between week 30-36 of pregnancy, so it is recommended to book your session at the beginning of your 2nd trimester. The 30-36 week timeframe is called the “honeymoon phase” ** of pregnancy. Expectant moms are typically feeling good, they are over morning sickness, they are still comfortable moving around (sitting, standing, laying down - all of which will be done during the session), and they are not yet experiencing potential end of pregnancy discomfort. This may come as a surprise, but personally I am not a big fan of having my picture taken - I do make it a point to have professional family portraits taken at least every 2 years - mostly so my kids have pictures of me with them - sort of like proof that I do exist as I am usually the one behind the camera. The phase of life I wish I had done a better job documenting were my pregnancies - partially because of the rollercoaster ride it was to actually get pregnant and partially because in the grand scheme of things, it was such a short fleeting moment. I look back now at the 4 total images of me with a pregnant belly and I regret not having anything more than the faint memory of the most significant change in my life - becoming a mom. Whether you are into having your pictures taken or a not a big fan of them or you think this is not something that you are into - don't let 13 years pass you by and then regret not having them done. A maternity session typically takes place between 30-36 of gestation and can be as elaborate or simple as you wish - it can be on location or in the studio, dramatic or boho - the sky is the limit. We have been living in SC for the last 4 years, and each year I have missed "the cut" at the peach orchards. The cut usually happens after the trees have began to bloom and the trees are trimmed leaving blooming branches in between the rows of trees - it is beautiful to see and even more beautiful to photograph. This year I saw them trimming the branches weeks before the bloom began so I knew that I would miss it, yet again. So imagine my surprise and excitement when I pulled in for my sunset maternity session and saw that one single row had been cut. We were going to reschedule... It has been raining for the last two days and the location where we were planning on shooting gets swampy with the slightest rain. So this morning I went to look for a backup spot. Thankfully, it stopped raining for a few hours for the ground to dry up a bit.
