I made it to the top 8, where I was knocked out by @_millertime_ before battling my way back through the king of the hill side battle, all the way back up to a second battle with @_millertime_ to earn a spot in the final 3rd place battle with @chpolly where I somehow managed to squeeze through and take the 3rd place spot. All of the drivers I got to battle were so aggressive and so consistent, they forced me to really step up my game. I feel like I grew more as a driver yesterday than all of the last year combined! Finally! I was so stoked to get to be part of a small track day today and spend some quality time thrashing on Donair and playing cops and robbers after a few months without any real seat time. I don't think there was a moment today that I wasn't smiling. There's also something to be said about the simplicity of a stock non-turbo car, that just takes everything you can throw at it and then you can drive it home again. That is, after spending ten minutes trying to perfect the ONE way that you can cram everything back into the car. 4 Wheels + tools is my current record in a 350z that remains drive-able with a closed trunk, though I am pretty sure 5 is possible. Anyone have that beat? . . .

Back to your regular car posts. While I was officially on light duties for my injured elbow, @clancypeterson and I had a whirlwind trip visiting the $14 to shakedown after its new cage install, body straightening and a bunch of front end work to the turbo plumbing system and cooling system. The goal was to shakedown the car and then start doing suspension setup, including installing sway bars and playing with coilover springs. Shakedown being what it is, and the number of times this car was off-roaded before the exhaust manifold cracked in March before it shipped off for repairs, we found many other things to address, and in typical fashion I managed to snap a steering knuckle at 4:58 pm on Sunday. Knowing that I only had a few hours to drive on Monday morning before we had to head to the airport, we got to work swapping knuckles with a lucky loan of parts to the cause from @driftschoolusa.. discovered in the process a bad wheel bearing and worn outer and inner tie rods. Then of course with new knuckles comes new alignment and playing the "guess the toe adjustment ratio" on hour 13 well after the sun set. Clancy busted his butt to get everything done and even though we were complete zombies the following morning, the car drove much better, and got to continue with my suspension setup -now with sway bars- and getting used to driving with boost again. I have a good shopping list to order before I return and I am so grateful to have had Clancy along for the trip as well as @driftschoolusa and @takaaono86 for coaching and technical advice during the shakedown. Anyone who says this is a solo sport is out to lunch.
Taking it back to Willow Springs, training with @driftschoolUSA right after @holleylsfest and before heading back north to crash my car into the wall at @evg_drift . Got lucky and ran into @instantben while I was training and he took some awesome shots that I'm excited to share. It'll buff out! . More pics coming soon, but @driftcon and @evg_drift ProAm round 2 took a bit of a left turn for me. . I had a really nice high line on the bank in my first qualifying lap, but stayed high a bit too long and made contact with the wall on my rear bumper, spinning the driver's side front into the wall. . Luckily thanks to a well built car and good safety equipment, I felt fine and was really hoping I'd be able to get out again, but unfortunately the impact at 80MPH-ish took a bit of a toll on the Z. . Driver's side suspension arms, wheel, core support, and plenty of other parts I didn't carry spares of were destroyed. Luckily my engine is ok. Time for a tube frame! . I really want to thank @evg_drift and @driftcon for arranging an amazing event and handling things quickly and efficiently, and especially @takaaono86, @driftschoolusa @clancypeterson, @jordandavis, and @zk1z for above and beyond help when things went sideways. This is not a solo sport and I would still be sitting sadly beside my smashed car at the side of the track if it weren't for you. Thanks also to everyone who stopped by to check if I was ok and offer words (and winches) of support while we figured out how to load a car with no front driver's side wheel and no real ability to turn the other front wheel into a trailer.
