Yes, there is death in my books, both preceding the novel and within the pages. But it felt like I should mention how death is viewed among the magdrid. Of course it is sad, and the people are missed, but death is a returning to the elements, and spirits of past loved ones remain near, they even influence things around their homes, and communicate when they feel it’s needed.
For instance, Hemeclax visits Sebastian a few times to tell him he is doing a fine job and needs to keep on the path he’s going down. His father also pays him a visit, while his mother influences things around the house, keeping a close eye not only on him, but Celeste especially. Also, funerals are celebrations, remembrances of the person’s life, filled with laughter and delicious food. Death is still tragic, and it surrounds everyone in their wild, violent world of magic, but it is not seen as an end.
