🤦‍♀️Parent frustration - THE UNEATEN LUNCH 😫
You spend time packing your child’s lunch only to have it come back basically untouched. It’s so frustrating and it happens to all of us. So many of you expressed that this was one of the biggest challenges when packing lunch. Here’s why you shouldn’t lose hope or feel totally defeated:
1️⃣there might not have been enough time to eat. Kids today are often given a very short period of time to eat. Some kids eat slowly and some are just busy socializing, so sometimes they just don’t have time to eat everything.
2️⃣they weren’t hungry. It happens to all of us. Maybe they ate a big snack today, maybe snack time was late, they ate a bigger breakfast...
3️⃣it didn’t travel well in the lunch box. Despite your best efforts, the banana got brown, the bread got mushy...sometimes food does not arrive the way it was sent. And, kids definitely eat with their eyes. Anything “off” could mean lunch is coming home uneaten.
4️⃣a really small change could mean your child eats it - ex. having the crusts cut off or not filling the sandwich up so much so it fits in your child’s mouth, packing the right utensil. Don’t underestimate how a small change can mean the difference between eating lunch and not. NOTE: it doesn’t matter if lunch served this way before had been totally acceptable
5️⃣they were expecting something different for lunch. No matter what age your child is, many kids do better when they are prepared - for whatever it is. Lunch is no exception and some kids need to know what they are opening up to find in the lunchbox. Many kids don’t like surprises, so consider discussing what is being pack ahead of time.
6️⃣just because your child didn’t eat it once doesn’t mean you should never send it again. Kids are finicky as we all know. One day a food is a success, the next is a failure. Don’t give up after only one try. Give it some time, but try again another day and maybe a different way. *
*
*
#parentinglife #packinglunch #lunchbox #lunchpacking #lunchpackingmama #whatsforlunch #kidslunch #toddlermom #citrition #greengrownmeals #greengrownmealsapproved #uneatenlunch #pickykids #pickyeaters #pickyeaterproblems #lunchtime #nut
