Ivy knows I love flowers and plants. We talk about it often and when she sees floral print on anything she gets excited and says “mom! Look! Flowers … just like you love flowers!” So … when she came home from school with this bouquet of “sunflowers” she had carefully picked at recess and stuffed in her backpack, my heart melted. While this is my first giant dandelion bouquet, I have been given a dandelion by a kid before. Many of us probably have. But I don’t think I ever stopped to think about it as much as I did this time. I pictured her running around the field at recess while the other kids were playing. And I just started thinking of what must have gone through her mind. Hey. There’s a flower. There are lots of flowers. Mom likes flowers. If I pick these she’ll be so happy. And she was sooooo happy to get home and give them to me. It’s not about the flowers (or weeds). It’s about the effort. She thought of me at recess. And more than that, she went through the effort to follow through on that thought and packed them all away excitedly knowing they would make me happy. What if we all acted with such enthusiasm when we thought of someone we loved? What small acts of kindness and beauty would we fill our days with if thoughts became effort? The whole thing just made me smile ear to ear. Stepping into the month of April, I didn’t realize how difficult this month would turn out to be! I sure wish I would have been mentally prepared for how mentally exhausting it has been! As if life wasn’t hectic enough, April graced us with some more fun things like, stomach bugs, baby E’s sleep regression (that has STILL not ended), potty training (which I had no prior plans to initiate until he voiced his readiness), sleep deprivation, to so much more! This past Saturday we woke up and decided we just needed to get out the house and BREATHE! We made a decision to forget about everything that hasn’t been going right and focus on what is! Even though we dealt with tantrums at a local restaurant thereafter, the visit to the beach seemed to brighten things up for us all. Life is hard, raising toddlers is much harder, but doing all that while growing another baby is BEYOND what words can describe. I decided to get more productive and read while the kids nap (since they’ve either refused those lately or cut them short). I read this book a friend from church gifted to me called “Praying circles around your children,” by Mark Batterson. Man this week has been a long one and it’s only Tuesday! Around 2pm today I realized I had not had any water yet and then remembered I had my @drinkcirkul and was able to get in almost 2 bottles before the end of that class period! I’m thinking next school year I’m going to have a full drink station to include multiple flavor cartridges and at least 2 water bottles so I never go without anymore!
