The poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke has been on my to-read list ever since @coffeecoffeecat and I decided to hunt down as many of the books mentioned in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society as possible. When I found this volume for a couple of bucks, it seemed a little bit like fate. I’ve had it for more than six months and am only now getting around to it since my commute has given me a lot of time to dedicate to reading. It’s not exactly my cup of tea, poetry wise (I’m pretty exclusively an epics and Romantic poets type of girl), but I definitely am glad I’m reading it—if for no other reason than to continue broadening my literary horizons.

To any of you with long commutes, what have been your favorite books to read or listen to? And what books have you read because of references in another book, or because you felt like you should expand your horizons? Did you end up liking it?
